Making Math More Fun - Math Games Package
Who Else Wants To Know The Simplest and Fastest Way To Make MATH So Much FUN And So EASY That Kids Will Beg You For More And More?"
Let's face it, math can be fun but not all kids think it is. Kids are used to being entertained and expect everything that you want them to do, to be just as entertaining as their favorite pastimes.
What worked in the past, doesn't necessarily work today. Many kids don't want to learn math or practice math, they'd rather be watching DVD's or playing with computer games.
No wonder you feel frustrated!
You know that math skills will be vital to every child’s future. It helps them in school… at work… in social situations… in all areas of life. You simply cannot get along without it. But many kids struggle with math and don't enjoy it at all.
But it doesn't have to be like this!
Imagine being able to get kids so engaged with math that they don't even want to stop even when you ask them to. Wouldn't that be great?
Or what if you could have an endless stream of different ways to motivate kids so they learn the basics of math. How would that feel if you could do this?
Imagine the satisfaction that you'd get from seeing your kids math skills soar and their grades in math going up and up.
Now you can get kids engaged in math and wanting to do more day after day....
and all the hard work has been done for you. You can have all the math games that you need to make math fun, interesting and effective.
If You Think You Can Use Making Math More Fun find out more!

Victory In California
Aug. 12, 2008 - Victory in the Homeschool Ruling From School
In the wake of the unanimous ruling of the Court of Appeal for the Second Appellate District to recognize homeschooling as a legal option in California, two of California’s most senior officials have given their opinion of the ruling.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger:
“This is a victory for California’s students, parents and education community. This decision confirms the right every California child has to a quality education and the right parents have to decide what is best for their children. I hope the ruling settles this matter for parents and homeschooled children once and for all in California, but assure them that we, as elected officials, will continue to defend parents’ rights.”
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell:
“I am pleased that the courts have clarified the right of California parents to homeschool their children. I have respected the right of parents to make educational decisions they feel are in the best interest of their children. I recognize and understand the consternation that the earlier court ruling caused for many parents and associations involved in homeschooling. It is my hope that today’s ruling will allay many of those fears and resolve much of the confusion.”
HSLDA appreciates the efforts of these two officials as they were part of the group who defended the right of parents to homeschool before the Court of Appeal.

Our homeschool Children
Hola,

HOMESCHOOL NATIONS AND ALL HOMESCHOOLERS
Hello to all,
How is everyone doing in the fight for our rights? Here I will post and non- profit organiztion in Puerto Rico that has changed localy the way homeschooling is viewed by government agencies and on a case by case basis helping the families feel comfortable when choosing to educate their children at home.
T'CHERs was created in 1999 and is a nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to support and promote the entire spectrum of homeschooling in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. In doing so, T'CHERs recognizes and respects the diverse motives, needs, and teaching styles of homeschooling families.
T'CHERs is distinguished from local homeschool support groups in that it is a state level organization, with many of its members belonging to the various local support groups around the island, and others not belonging to any local support group at all. T'CHERs has over 100 families as members and its membership is growing monthly.
T'CHERs provides free homeschool orientation for those who are interested. (parents, government agencies, school officials, college classes, etc.) While orientation is available as needed, T'CHERs also organizes an annual island wide One Great Month of Homeschool Orientation in order to make the homeschool option more visible to those looking for alternatives. We are also available to help with establishing new homeschool support groups where there is an interest.
T'CHERs has contacted the Dept. of Family and Dept. of Health in order to encourage them to establish policies of self certification by homeschooling parents so that these families do not need to have an outside source certify their homeschooling in order to receive services. The Dept. of Family (ADSEF/PAN division) and the Dept. of Health (Reforma health insurance) now have a policy in place. T'CHERs is still working with the Housing Dept. and other agencies, as well as the private sector, in order to encourage them to follow suit.
T'CHERs has been in communication and meetings with the Dept. of Education in order to help them form policies for homeschoolers who need admission or re-admission into the system, who need special education services from the system, or who want to leave the system for homeschooling. While the Dept.'s Circular Letter 2-2006-2006 (in our Archives) addresses the placement procedure for homeschoolers back into the system, the Dept. of Ed. still needs to address the needs of special ed. families and develop a policy for those families who want to leave the public system.
T'CHERs keeps its members informed of homeschool legal issues in Puerto Rico and encourages them to voice their opinions on those issues in order to give the Board direction.
T'CHERs has helped form homeschool student admission policies at University of Puerto Rico and Inter American University. We are in the process of helping Arecibo Pontificia Católica form their homeschooled student admission policy.
T'CHERs has been invited, and has accepted, to give workshops at the College Board's annual convention for educators in San Juan. In 2003 our workshop was on "Homeschooling as an Educational Alternative." In 2004 we discussed "Homeschoolers and College Admissions." In 2005, while invited, we chose not to participate, as the year's theme was not conducive to homeschooling topics. These workshops help teach traditional educators about homeschooling and provide us with contacts in the education community.
T'CHERs has held Homeschool Fairs to help keep homeschoolers informed and give them a chance to get to know other homeschoolers from across the island. T'CHERs has held two Homeschool Fairs in Aguadilla and one in San Juan. Workshops have included such topics as "Introduction to Homeschooling" for new homeschoolers, "How to Keep a Portfolio," "Singular Passions: How to Create a Whole Curriculum Around a Single Interest," "Homeschooling High School," and much more.
T'CHERs has held regional one day Homeschool Workshops at different venues around the island. Workshop topics are based on the interests and input of the membership.
T'CHERs coordinates an annual weekend Family Camp, in February. This is an opportunity to relax and recharge with other homeschoolers. Along with what the area itself provides for fun, there are planned talks, activities, and games that add to the weekend enjoyment.

As per a September 8, 2005 letter sent by Wendy Matos Negrón, Ph D, Executive Director of the Medical Assistance Program of the Department of Health to the Regional Directors, Local Office Supervisors, and Certifiers of that same program, the procedure for homeschoolers applying for PR Medicaid (Reforma) is as follows:
-The father, mother, or legal guardian will certify in writing that the minor(s) are homeschooled.
-The certification should include the complete name of the minor(s), address, date, and signature of the father, mother, or legal guardian
To apply for the Nutritional Assistance Program (PAN) of the Department of Family, you, as the homeschooling parent or legal guardian, may fill out the section for homeschoolers to certify school attendance.
Upon the renewal of the PAN application, the agent may require additional evidence of homeschooling. This need may simply be satisfied in the course of their interview with you. If it isn't, however, they may ask for further evidence and any of the following should be sufficient: sample of child's work, list of resources used, letter from your local support group.
The ADSEF/PAN division understands that ignorance about the policy still exists on the local level and they are interested in clearing this up as difficulties with our community arise. Therefore, if you are told something contrary to what we have mentioned above as being the policy, please feel free to call Sra. Luz Guitierrez (or Sra. Raquel Nieves) of the ADSEF/PAN division at: 787-289-7600 ext. 2401, 2400.

Rules and Procedures for the Administration of the Placement Exam for Minors
Procedure for homeschooled students who want to enter the Public Education System.
1. Students under 16 years old who are interested in entering a public school, are to be referred to their regional or the Central Unit of Equivalent Studies.
The Unit of Equivalent Studies will authorize a provisional placement, for a term of two months, according to the age of the student. With this placement the Unit will recommend the corresponding placement exam, specifying that the student has come from homeschooling. The school director will procede with the provisional placement of the student. The director will request the placement test and will present all the required documents, including a copy of the provisional placement, as recommended by the Unit of Equivalent Studies. This application will be submitted to the regional Unit of Placement Exams for Minors Coordinator. When the school director receives the results, he/she will make the official grade placement of the student.
Students of Early Education (K-3) will be given diagnostic tests for those grades at the school the parents are interested in.
2. It is recommended that the placement process is begun at the beginning of the school year in order to achieve a proper placement of the student.

While there is no law that requires record keeping at this time, there are many important reasons to do so. Those records can be used if you are receiving government benefits and further evidence of schooling is asked for, or as evidence of work done, should it be asked for, to re-enter a traditional private school. Records are especially important for those going on to college or seeking employment as they will help you to create a portfolio, transcript, or résumé when needed.

Special Education
The Department of Education still does not have a formal procedure in place for homeschoolers leaving school systems and so, there remains much confusion on the part of many directors on how to handle those transferring out of the school systems into homeschooling. This holds particularly true for those students receiving Special Education. However, the following has more or less been the accepted procedure thus far.
If your child has been enrolled in a school (public or private), you should notify the director and the Special Education office of your district in writing that your child is transferring into a private educational system. (sample letter) I the school has the transfer form available, you may fill it out with the name of your homeschool (simply name your homeschool whatever you want).
You may also request a copy of your child's records. Depending on the school, you may be asked to cover the cost of copying said records. Your child's medical and vaccination certificates should also be returned to you.
The ignorance of the legality of homeschooling on the part of some school directors, district superintendents, and school social workers has caused problems for some families wanting to transfer their children to homeschooling.
A few things that parents with children in Special Education should bear in mind:
-The transfer into homeschooling does not mean that your child will lose his/her right to receive related services (therapies).
-Your child will continue to receive the related services (therapies) that he/she is already receiving when you start homeschooling.
-The IEP (Individualized Educational Program) will be carried out by you and the therapist(s) once you start homeschooling.
-If different related services (therapies) are applied for after the transfer into homeschooling, your child will be put on a waiting list for those related services (therapies), the same as any other private school student.

New bill presented in Puerto Rico's House of Representatives
On June 15, 2006, a new bill regarding homeschooling was presented at Puerto Rico’s House of Representatives. This project (P.C. 2754) is said to “recognize” the educational alternative of homeschooling in Puerto Rico.
It suggest a notification to intent homeschooling to the Puerto Rico General Educational Council (“Consejo General de Educación de Puerto Rico”) with a payment of $125; an evaluation every 4 years where the parent will bring a portfolio of their child.
Puerto Rico doesn’t have any regulation about homeschooling, although there have been several attempts during the last 4 years for regulation. Homeschooling groups, from conservatives to liberals were opposed to previous projects. To see P.C. 2734, you can go to www.opinapr.com and select P.C. 2754 on the search button.

WELCOME TO HOMESCHOOL NATIONS - PUERTO RICO / BIENVENIDOS A EDUCACION EN CASA NACIONALMENTE
Hello,
Hello everyone,
Thank you for visiting HOMESCHOOL NATIONS - PUERTO RICO BLOG, where you can find accurate information in homeschooling in this beautiful island of Puerto Rico. We are Luis Gulf war veteran with the U.S. Marines, currently attending college for a BAF and Laura dedicated housewife that enjoys art, music, farm animals and teaching the kids in both languages. We have been researching homeschooling for many years, at this time we have 4 children ages 16 Michael, 11 Cody, 4 Kiara, 3 Alberto, the last two we are homeschooling and we are waiting to work on the older ones a little because they seem to be a little afraid of loosing their friends in public school. We hope that by winter they are all homeschooled. We lived in the U.S. all of our lives an came to Puerto Rico in 2001 to start a new beginning away from the material world and we are happy that we made the move. WE love gardening together with our children and we have made a vegetable garden this year and we are already consuming the veggies. We grow our own farm animals and we love the freedom of homeschooling our young ones. We are here to stop the prejudice on homeschooling in Puerto Rico and like our famous motto " WE WILL ENDURE "
If anyone is in Puerto Rico and would like to submmit their local support information click here http://www.thehomeschoolmagazine.com/hsn/info-submit.php
