The Duggars are expecting again
I'm torn. I want to be happy for them, but at the same time, I cringe. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are expecting their 18th child. Now, on the one side, I think it's good to have kids, and as many as you are physically, emotionally, and spiritually able to raise. I think if they can do it, more power to them.
The part I cringe on is the fact that I know about them.

I have never met this family, but I'm talking about them. They have really, honestly, become just a spectacle for the world to gawk at. They're celebrities. The kids are on the news, Yahoo homepage, message boards... People all over are talking about them. Because they are a spectacle. I ran across some people making comments that the girls should slip birth control pills into their mother's orange juice and a variety of vulgar comments that I would not dare to put here and regret seeing, myself. Even in the San Francisco Chronicle.
Sure, people will always make fun of Christians. We know that, and we live in spite of that. That's not my point. The point is that we are to be a light to the world, not a spotlight. We generally think child celebs are a disgusting idea - that it's not right to put kids on the front of magazines and TV cameras... The Duggars are just that now. They're on the same page in gossip magazines as the pregnant teen celeb Jamie Lynn Spears. Just Google their last name and you'll see. They're everywhere.
We are a peculiar people, as the Bible puts it. But it's my fear that if we become too peculiar, no one will listen to what we have to say.
Your opinions? I'm open to any and all. |

May. 10, 2008 - Wow...
Personally, I think that if they have the financial resources to care for their family then they can go for it! Each family must do what the Lord has called them to do. I do not think their intentions are to be a "freak" show. I also think they are conveying a message to the world that is positive. ALL of those children are so well behaved and loving.
Great discussion,
enjoyed your blog,
blessings,
Linda
