The 14 Days of Homeschooling
(tune of "THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS")
On the first day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Can you
homeschool legally?"
On the second day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Are they
socialized, can you homeschool legally?"
On the third day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Do you give
them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"
On the fourth day of home school my neighbor said to me, "What about
P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool
legally?"
On the fifth day of home school my neighbor said to me, "YOU ARE SO
STRANGE! What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"
On the sixth day of home school my neighbor said to me, "How long
will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E., do you give
them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"
On the seventh day of home school my neighbor said to me, "Look at
what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE!, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, do you homeschool legally?"
On the eighth day of home school my neighbor said to me, "Why do you
do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you home school, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E. do you give them tests, are they
socialized, do you homeschool legally?"
On the ninth day of home school my neighbor said to me, "They'll miss
the prom, why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you home school, YOU 'RE SO STRANGE!, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, do you homeschool legally?"
On the tenth day of home school my neighbor said to me, "What about
graduation, they'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you home school, YOU ARE SO STRANGE!, what about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"
On the eleventh day of home school my neighbor said to me, "I could
never do that, what about graduation, they'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, what about P.E. do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"
On the twelfth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "Can they go
to college, I could never do that, what about graduation, they'll miss the prom, why do you do this, look at what they're missing, how long will you homeschool, YOU ARE SO STRANGE, What about P.E., do you give them tests, are they socialized, can you homeschool legally?"
On the thirteenth day of homeschool I thoughtfully replied: "They can
go to college, yes you can do this, and they can graduate, we don't
need the prom, we do it cuz we like it, they aren't missing anything,
we'll homeschool forever, WE ARE NOT STRANGE!, We give them P.E., life
itself's a test, they are socialized, AND WE HOMESCHOOL LEGALLY!
On the fourteenth day of homeschool my neighbor said to me, "How can
I get started, why didn't you tell me, where do I buy curriculum, when is the next conference, WILL PEOPLE THINK WE'RE STRANGE? I think we can do this, if you will help us, can we join P.E. and we'll homeschool legally.
Thank-you to Jean, a fellow homeschoolblogger and mother of 10, for posting this fantastic melody! Visit her blog, Quiver's House, for more homeschool inspiration!
Well, moving day has just about arrived! Three more days and we move to our new home, that still has no services! Lucky us, eh? I'd like to think that we'll be hooked up to services like hydro and gas relatively soon, but I'm realistic enough to know that cable, phone and internet won't be available for awhile yet! Three weeks ago our street didn't even exist! We dug our hole 54 days ago. What a journey! So... because we won't be online all summer and we homeschool all year round, I've found a few 'free' software downloads for my kids, and thought I'd share them here!!
I found a site called 'Softsland'. It lists all sorts of 'free' to download software from educational software to web development. Lots of stuff for the younger student! The following are a few that I've insisted my kids download for the summer!
Interlex is a freeware vocabulary builder that helps you learn foreign words and phrases quickly and easily.
Periodic Table Flash Cards is designed to help you learn the elements. Learn the names and symbols of each element from Hydrogen to Ununoctium! Flash Cards has always been a great way to learn - and it can be fun too! Simply start Periodic Table Flash Cards and away you go!
Learning whole numbers? Improve whole number computation skills from simple to complex problems by using Abilities Builder Whole Numbers Plus 7.6. Math facts exercises are included. Randomly generated problems are structured and worked out number by number as you would on paper. Generate printed worksheets that reinforce the on-screen activities. Multi-sensory approach using the Microsoft Agent character Peedy the parrot. Especially effective for the learning disabled and remediation.
Task Light 3.0 is a test authoring mathematics freeware, that offers 500+ math problems with solutions in arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra, trigonometry and hyperbolic trig! It enables math teachers to prepare printable math tests literally in a minute and generates variant tests around each created test!
This last one is for you, Bianca, it's DreamKana! A freeware hiragana and katakana flash card application. It is easy to use and flexible to the way you want to learn. It includes voiced constanants in both kana sets, and does not require any special fonts or language packs. DreamKana is completely portable and can be carried with you on a flashcard and memory stick - it requires no installation! And some Kanji flashcards can be found here!
This week I thought we would start with something for your little ones. Lookybook.com is a website that allows you to look at picture books in their entirety, from cover to cover. This is a great way to preview books before you buy or to look through books and know which ones you want to add to your library list. My kids even enjoyed having a few of them read to them from the computer screen.
Now, I have something for mom! A friend of mine keeps raving about the website menus4moms.com. I finally checked it out and it looks great! You will find free weekly dinner menus, grocery shopping list software, organizers and planners, home organization and kitchen articles, recipes, and more.
Next, I have two free E-Books for Homeschool group leaders. Money Management for Homeschool Organizations and Tax Exempt 501c3 Status for Homeschool Organizations are both offered by homeschoolcpa.com. These free E-Books will help you organize the finances of your group and discuss the pros and cons of being a nonprofit corporation and obtaining 501c3 tax exempt status. You will find both of these free E-Books HERE.
On the Company Porch you will find a great new contest with a prize from Classical Astronomy. Someone will win a copy of the book Signs and Seasons. You can read all about it HERE.

Good Morning! I hope the sun is shining in your area this morning! It is here!
It's been a spell, since I was able to sit down and blog, but we're building right now and are planning on moving for July 1st! It's been absolutely crazy with delays because of rain and various other things! Have you ever watched those 'house flips' on t.v.? And the homeowner has to go out of town? We watch and tell each other, 'No way, would we let that happen!'. It really does happen! We finally get a weekend of no rain, only to have to leave, for my mother & father-in law's 50th wedding anniversary! Imagine 50 years...!
Just to say...in addition to neglecting this blog, I've also neglected checking my eMail and have actually put it off! Okay...I'm terrified to check my eMail! So...I don't know when I'll get another chance to share these links to these fabulous websites for History! The first site is about Canada's Unique Social History! This site will provide you with the opportunity to learn about Canada's unique history of social welfare and social work. It contains hundreds of pages of text, 12 audio lectures, as well as videos, and photographs. It's intended for the older high school or Cegep student!
The next site is about the Social History of the Circumpolar North! You'll find you have access to five learning modules! There is something here for every student who's Cegep bound! Information about the Boreal Ecosystem, to Plate Tectonics, to the Weather! If you seriously want to know about the life and times of Canada, this is the site!
You may have already heard that The Old Schoolhouse Magazine has gone Digital. We are now offering a chance to check out a Digital Issue of the magazine for free! Our Summer 2007 issue is loaded with good articles! You can click HERE.
When I was a kid I can remember playing hours and hours of hangman on the chalk board at school. Wordduck.com is a new site I just learned about with a less gruesome version of hangman. As you guess the letters there is a duck standing on boards over a river. Each time you get a wrong letter a board falls out from under the duck. If you lose too many boards your duck falls in the river. All along the duck talks to you, although you can turn him off if he becomes annoying. The great thing about this site is you can upload your own word lists. I played this for awhile with my kids, and we all had a great time with it! You can check it out HERE. to read more about the issue and find the link to the freebie.
The Schoolhouse Store is also offering a free Summer Reading Program for your kids! There will be great freebies and prizes. You can learn all about it HERE. This is going to be a lot of FUN!
I frequently get requests for more freebies for teens, so here is a great one! ChristianTeenBibleStudies.com is offering a great free Bible Study for teens. It is suitable for personal studies, youth group and for your homeschool. You can learn all about it HERE
Lastly, Mari over in the sales department is looking for a telephone sales representative to work from home 20 daytime hours a week. If you are interested, you can learn more about the job HERE.
I'll see you next week right here at - Freebie Fridays!
