Chronicles of a family at home

Doh!

Everyone forgets things occasionally.  I could live with that!  Lately, however, I'm having total and complete lapses where I don't just forget things -- that would imply that I remember them when you bring them up to me, or that I am just unsure of the details of something -- oh, no!  It's like things never existed.

Yesterday, I just had to get out of the house and so launched an expedition to the Blount County Public Library.  After spending $12, which I later regretted, on coffee and snacks all around, I promptly learned I had outstanding late fees adding up to $49.50.  How could this be, I thought; my [huge stack of] books were only a day late.  Nope.  They were a week and one day late.  I had the wrong date stuck in my head all along.  The librarian said sympathetically, "You know, whenever you aren't sure of the due date, you can just call us."  I said, "That's just the thing, though:  I WAS sure of the date!"

Last night, SmallWorld pointed out to me that I was signed up for a play in a couple of weeks -- which I should have already paid for.  I had absolutely no recollection that I had ever signed up for such a thing.  Every group reminder just flew over my head like a jumbo jet.  I even, at one point, CONSIDERED signing up for the play, but then did not because of the baby.  Never entered my mind that I already had signed up.  In fact, I had to run a search of my entire emailbox before I could even figure out what on earth she was talking about.  (Thank you, SmallWorld, for your sweet, long-suffering nature.)

Today, as I started bustling the boys into their school lessons and my big boy into his piano practice, I pronounced that "Today is piano lesson day!"  My big boy said, "No, Mommy, it isn't -- we were supposed to go to group lessons on Monday, so there aren't any lessons today."  Never, ever did it cross my mind on Monday that we were supposed to be at Group Lessons that afternoon.  It helps a little that said big boy hadn't remembered it, either!  But still:  one has to pay for those things and if you miss 'em?

We won't even go into the long series of other things I've done lately:  things like just putting the phone down when I've finished talking, but failing to hang it up.  Or that I went to my mother's house today to pick up her dog and very nearly left without the dog.

I find myself pining for Me of the the old days, B.C. (Before Children), when I was so reliable, creative, and responsible.  Hopefully, people will understand that I haven't slept all that well -- this year.  And maybe I'll check out Gingko Biloba...

You might consider taking magnesium and a Vit. B complex. I had very similar problems after I had Corbin. Once my chiropractor's nurse called twenty minutes before my appointment, and I still forgot and missed it. That was when he suggested the magnesium/Vit. B combo. It really helped...though I am still sometimes a little flaky.
