Saturday Simple Pleasures

I've been intrigued by Sixredheads' blogs on Saturday Simple Pleasures. Here is one of mine:
All week long, breakfast on the Hill is a "fend for yourself" kind of deal. It is literally on the Chore List along with watering of plants, caring for the pets, and emptying the dishwasher.
On Saturdays, Oldest Son pulls out the ole Church Cookbook and chooses a healthy pancake recipe to make and we eat in style. I particularly enjoy sitting in the big easy chair with Baby watching HGTV while someone else provides the haute cuisine!
In an earlier blog, I gave his usual recipe -- Hearty Whole Wheat Pancakes (with flax seeds). Today, he made Oatmeal Pancakes, which are quite a bit more complicated. Here's that recipe:
Oatmeal Pancakes
1 c. milk
3/4 c. quick-cooking rolled oats (prefer Bob's Red Mill Brand)
3/4 c. oat flour (same brand recommended)
2 T. sugar (you can use agave nectar, honey, or other lower-impact sweetener)
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 beaten egg yolks
1 T. cooking oil (we used olive oil today)
2 egg whites
Heat milk until hot. Stir in oats and let stand for 5 minutes. Combine remaining dry ingredients in a mixing bowl, then add oat/milk mixture. Add egg yolks and oil. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form, then fold into batter. Makes 8 (4-in.) pancakes.

Petrolia is a pretty quiet place... not much development here.
But we are building a solar farm soon for power generation... that will keep us in the now!

that the things we post online often look better than in real life ...
Port Stanley was a great place to swim (shallowest water of the Great Lakes) and the fries at Mackies are excellent, BUT I remember it always smells like dead fish, and the sand always burns the bottom of your feet, and everyone knows everybody else's business, and it is always hot and humid here in Southwestern Ontario
sorry to burst your bubble ... maybe I could have tried to sell you an arial photograph ...

but we have decided to completely abandon our homeschool group.
how sad for the boys, in a way
it's not like we had real friendships with these people anyway ...
and now, we will simply need to try that much harder to spend time with the few we do really share the same values with
