Writers' Block
|
I have several things that I want to blog about; mostly Decoration Day, which I took a gajillion photos of to share with you all.
But for some reason, I just can't get in here and do it. Maybe it is because today is my forty-second birthday, and I feel a little sad about that. The last two very "ugly number" birthdays didn't affect me in the least because I was pregnant for both of them. I guess I thought I was still capable of doing something youthful -- like procreation!
So I am, as they say, in a purple funk. I will try to get back on the horse tomorrow. Sure could use one of Partyoffive's $3 deals, or maybe Dad2three's Hawaiian shirt -- or even Madam Smallworld's week of Blissful Oblivion. I will have to settle for getting these socks put away and just look forward to my parents' visit tomorrow morning. Daddy requested that I provide eggs and grits...
Smallworld said, at some point, that a good treatment for writer's block is to simply post a recipe. So here you go. I've made this recipe many times. Please do not attempt to use those nasty, finely ground grits found outside the South. If you need a shipment of proper grits, let me know:
GRITS WITH GOAT CHEESE AND CHIVES
2 14 1/2-ounce cans chicken broth
1/2 cup water
1 cup quick-cooking grits
1/3 cup sliced fresh chives or green onions
4 ounces soft fresh goat cheese (such as Bûcheron or Montrachet)
Fresh chives or green onions, cut into 2-inch pieces
Bring broth and water to boil in heavy medium saucepan. Gradually stir in grits. Reduce heat to low; cover and cook 4 minutes. Uncover; simmer until thickened to consistency of thin mashed potatoes, stirring often, about 3 minutes. Add sliced chives and cheese. Stir until cheese melts. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Top with chive pieces.
Serves 6.

How come I didn't know this was your birthday? Where is your party? I'm thinking we need a June party to celebrate these last few birthdays....

I know I can get them at Cracker Barrel across the river, but I don't know how those compare...
Thanks for all of your comments lately... see you were writing - just not on your own blog.
I really wanted to leave my yard "au naturel", but I just don't think the neighbours would go for that.
You don't have any extra space in your woods, where we could move in, do you? We don't make much noise (especially if we don't have to mow) - you'd hardly notice us!
