Chronicles of a family at home

Dual personalities

Don't forget that I've split my blogging brain in half and now have a separate blog for Team X activities.  Sometimes what I want to blog about here actually happens during my Xercise 365 time, so don't forget to occasionally look at what I'm up to there:  http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/queenteamx365.

Tonight, I went to a Homeschool Support Group Teen meeting, which was really sort of encouraging to me.  Hardly ever have I been in a room that crowded with people who agreed on so much.  The kids were often the ones requesting some new stipulation in the dress code, and went on to describe the offending clothing styles of their fellows in great detail.  These kids are articulate, confident of themselves and of their belief system.  It does the heart good to see them take ownership of their own "issues."

In our group, we include grades 7-8 along with the 9 through 12th year students.  I enjoyed hearing some of the boys standing up for keeping it that way, too.  But I couldn't help thinking about and feeling more than a little sad about how soon I will have a "teen" myself!  (Oldest Son is already 11 and entering 6th grade.)  Maybe someone will invent a Middle School Group that he can join instead, so I can think of him as my little baby just a bit longer.

I was excited to hear the teens speak up and draw some boundaries and guidlines of their own!!! We have a GREAT group of kids. I am highly in favor of the middle school group, as I want to keep my younger one a child as long as possible!!! Those teen years are ever so scary! :)

Evan turned 11 yesterday and Jonam will be a teen in January, and it certainly doesn't look like we will be having any other children (you kind of make assumptions after it has been 11 years)
it is all good though ... Neal and I can go for a walk, alone, or for a coffee, without needing a babysitter!
and we both still feel young enough to do both
