Oct. 29, 2005 - A Glorious Day!!

Wow, today was beautiful, weather wise, physical wise and spiritual wise.  Overall it was a great day.  We went to church this morning and then headed to Science City for an afternoon of trains!  The boys were in heaven.  We then headed home and when we arrived, David asked to go on a walk with just momma.  AHHHHHHHHHHH, how sweet.  So I said sure and off we went, even though my feet were killing me!  We met a lady and her two children there and David immediately made friends with this little boy.  I started talking to the woman and of course, she asked me what grade my son was in...well, you know where that conversaion ended up.  Homeschooling!  She asked me the question....why I choose to homeschool and off we went.  I tried to remain very neutral and was careful not to bash the public schools too much.  Her hubby was a high school teacher for an alternative education program...which prides itself on educating hard to get too kids....kids that don't do well in traditional programs.  I bet that program is full.    Well, it was soon time to go.  David and I walked around the pond and he was talking about the trees and their loosing their leaves.  I saw a tree with tons of buds and asked him if he new what they were, he promptly responded..."Those are buds, in the spring they will be flowers of some kind and then leaves! Boy, I sure do have wisdom!"  It was so funny!  He is only six and the one I always worry about as far as retaining anything we do in school.  Guess I don't have to worry.

I think I will retire to my room and watch a good movie.  The boys have one from netflix and so do us adults.  So, I am off to my room for a spell.

Isn't it great when you find out that they really ARE listening? :-)

That reminds me, I need to get off the computer so I can go watch our new Netflix that came in the other day...

Have a great day!

How fun...I think sometimes God sends these little days when we need them...I read your post about your "funk." Everyone gets that, I think. We are so indoctrinated with the value of the public school system that it is easy to second-guess. But God entrusted them to you and He knew what He was doing. You obviously have taken the responsibility seriously or you wouldn't bother with homeschooling : ) You know your child infinitely better than any teacher ever could...and to those shoulder shrugs. Don't let yourself think for a second that the teacher in the classroom doesn't get the exact same response from her little students. I remember when I was a kid. Mom always asked about my day and the answers were always, "Nothing," "fine," "I don't know." That's just kidspeak for, "I don't want to talk about it right now." And as a public school teacher, that is about all I got from a good deal of the kids. I had far more concerns about my progress with the kids then than I do now with my own.
