Dec. 10, 2005 - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe!!
We went to see Narnia today. It was awesome. A bit slow at times but it stayed true to the book and as anyone who reads C.S. Lewis knows, he is wordy!! The boys loved it! I am so glad they made a quality family movie. I just hope it does well at the box office. I worry that kids today won't appreciate the themes masked within C.S. Lewis' amazing stories that parallel Christs life. I fear children won't 'get it' and will get bored with the lack of sex, violence and harsh language they have gotten used too in todays movies. This movies success will show where we are as a society. Where are children are. How the media has desensitized them and has raised the bar as to what entertians the minds of today. I think the story was well done in this movie, I think the actors did an amazing job too. My kids got it, that's for sure...but then, I keep them close to me, I shelter them from the world, I teach them from the Bible and show them the truth, so they can recognize it when it's right before their eyes.

DS17 went with friends opening night. DD14, DD10, and I went yesterday. All four of us have read the book, and we LOVED the movie. There were a few places where they deviated (such as falling into a raging river when the thaw came and Edmund meeting Tumnus in prison before Tumnus was turned to stone), but I'm sure that was for dramatic effect and to clarify thoughts and motives which books are able to give insight to but movies need dialogue. We weren't disappointed. I, too, hope it does well and sends a clear signal to Hollywood that good, clean movies can be great.
