Jan. 8, 2006 - Tomorrow's the day!
Tomorrow we begin the second half of our school year. Not another break until March or April. We are definately NOT doing school this summer. Every year I start out with such good intention and boom, I disapoint myself by not doing anything what so ever in regards to school! So this year my goal is to finish by the end of May. But as for tomorrow...the boys are excited, they actually are...it is amazing. I think they are actually bored with doing whatever they want. :) We also start the no video games or tv from Monday through Friday afternoon...rule. This is going to be a challange for me as well. I promised not to get on the computer during school time. Yikes! But I know this is how drastic I need to be. I am hoping this curbs the melt downs DS 6 has when he isn't allowed to play video games.
We are also going to try something a bit different. I am going to focus on one son at at time...giving the other one independant work for the day. One week it will be DS 10 for three days and DS 6 for two and the following week it will be DS 10 two days and DS 6 three days. I am hoping that this helps with the distractions...keeping one child focused and giving him all my attention for the day. We'll see.
I am still looking to co-op science or art but haven't had anyone interested. I guess maybe it wasn't meant to be. I just think it would be nice to get together with other like minded folks once a week. I know it would be good for the boys.
Well, dinner won't make itself and I still have some planning to do for tomorrow.

We are starting our second half of the school year tomorrow, too. I am sooo ready! Yet I have bronchitis and so does my dd11. It will be a light day tomorrow, but we will start something.......even if they crawl up into bed with me and we read aloud! We also start the no tv/video/electronics Monday through Friday. It is the only way to focus them on school. Praying your new start will be the best yet! Don't forget we all have bad days and days we doubt we are doing anything right. Hang in there!
Blessings,

I've found that it's easier to do science on my own at home but my 6yo ds take classes at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. It's $60 a year and they have class on the first Tuesday of the month (usually two classes in a row). He LOVES it! Perhaps you can check out the science/history museum in your area for classes? Or some have science clubs that meet weekly.
Love,

We are starting up again tomorrow too.( I was afraid I was the last one to start up again!) It was funny reading your post. It sounds exactly like us. The kids got
v-smile pocket games for Christmas and new dvds and I got wireless internet. Tomorrow we go "unplugged". It is going to be just as hard on me as it is on them! I love this wireless internet! Let me know how your first day goes! ~Shaundra
P.S. What unit are you on? We are beginning Attentiveness. |
