Jan. 14, 2006 - A new day is dawning for my baby
Well, I am making gains with DS 6. He is actually sitting at the table writing a play. He has never in his life attemtped to write anything and now he is trying to write a play for him and his friends. Of course, his spelling is entirely phonetic but adorable all the same. I can actually make out what the intended words are. I am so excited to see this phase begining in my little boy. I have always had this deep seeded dread that he would never like anything involving writing or reading. He also make a huge gain yesterday in reading. He read some fairly difficult words for me. I asked him to try, just to see where he was and he got them all correct. Words like buck, duck, truck, dig, big, rug, hug...simple, phonectic words.
I think we are going to make an animal diary together. Find pictures of common animals, paste them in a book and I will either have him dictate of copy some basic information about them. Then he can 'read' the book to his daddy. I think that will give him some much needed confidance with reading.
DS 10 is also doing well. He is doing most of his school work on his own. I have to be careful I don't neglect him. He still needs my guidance and involvement. We do still do KONOs together and history. But I have been allowing him to do grammar, reading, and math alone.
My DD 18 made the dean's list at college. We are so proud of her!!!!!!!! If you read this dear, know we love you and are so proud but not surprised at your success in college. You are a natural learner!! Keep it up sweety!!
