Jan. 17, 2006 - Report cards??
Today I was looking through my boys 4th grade portfolio and I noticed I had done a complete report card for him. I totally forgot about that!! Now, do I go back and do one for this year? or do I do one at all? Does anyone out there do report cards for elem. years?? I am trying to keep track of their work by keeping a 'folder' of their work. I keep art work, papers written, attempts at new skills, etc. At the end of the year I paper clip them together and label is accordingly. I don't know why I fret over this. I am sure no one is going to question me about my sons school work or ask to see a report card and even if he ever did end up going back to school (God Forbid), they wouldn't recognize my attempt at report cards anyway. I do think I will write a little something about his overall improvement or lack there of, over the course of his 5th grade year. That way I can see the progress ( or lack there of) as I go back and re-read my summeries. Any other great ideas out there???

Here in TX, homeschooling is considered a private school and there are no other regulations really to follow or keep track of...so no report cards for us. The last thing I need is one more thing to do! ;-)
I did, however, keep a scrapbook of sorts for Dash's Kindergarten year. A few pictures of field trips, K graduation pics and certificates, handwriting samples and an outline of material covered. I'm not sure how much or in what manner I will keep of the future years. I imagine that no report cards will be kept until he's at the high school level. It's really just not relevant or necessary unless you're trying to put a transcript together.
Sorry I'm not much help but just wanted to give you an idea of what we do at our house!
Love,
