Today the oldest 3 boys were outside shoveling and Alisha was outside sliding, when our German Sheperd Pepper ran into the road and was hit by a car. I rushed her to the vet, but they had to put her to sleep. Alisha cried for  hours, I felt horrible. Melissa took it hard too, but is doing well. The rest of the kids seem OK with it now too, but its a sad day here all around.

I grew up with dogs all my life and was devasted when one,my best friend in the world died. Sorry your kids had to go through this.

I enjoy reading your blog. I am a homeschooler in Taiwan and we have 3 of our own boys and 3 fosterchildren ages 11,12 and 17 (years, not months!!). We only homeschool our oldest, who is 7yr. I am American and dh is aborigine Taiwanese. I love reading about large families and especially ones that homeschool!!

I am so sorry about your dog! We love our animals very much here and know how horrible a loss they can be!

I am so sorry to hear about the heart break of losing such a sweet dog, one that the children enjoyed so much. I know it is hard as a child to lose a pet. I still think about my cat from when I was young. I never got over it. Perhaps, there is some way to help your children heal. Perhaps, you can pray and ask God for some ideas so that they don't struggle like I did. My sister is a child psychologist. I will ask her for you. God bless.

Thank you all for the kind words and prayers! We are looking to get a new dog, a puppy and have found one in the paper that we possibly will be buying. So, the kids are excited about that and it does ease the pain some.

I am in Northern Maine, almost to the top of the state. We moved to Maine from NH 2 years ago! Where in NH are you? Congratulations on # 5!

I am so sorry about Pepper. I am a big Dog lover, especially Boxers and German Shepherds. So hard for our littles to go through that.
