Raising Godly Parents

"Parenting reminds us of our absolute humanity"

~Gary Thomas from Sacred Parenting

Not one of us can proudly boast that we love our children sacrificially.  Not one of us can prove our love for our children is selfless and perfect.  The first thing we learn as a new parent is that we are human.  We are depraved humans.

But a godly parent will learn and be sanctified through their children.  Be sure that kids will shine a light on all those dark corners of our lives.  And, the older they get the more they show our own sin through their speech and actions.

So, what can we do about it?  First off we need to recognize that we have problems.  We need to not sweep them vigorously under the rug before others see but rather take down the curtains, turn on the lights, and illuminate all those dusty corners of our heart.  The best time to do a clean up of the soul is before kids are born but we tend to continue in our selfish ways until these little sweeties are born.

Thankfully God uses our sweet children to begin to mold us into who He wants us to be.  It is an incredible journey and one with great rewards.  Today look at every episode as another chance to glorify God and another step in your personal sanctification.

• Jul. 31, 2006 - Welcome

Hi!  We, Eric and Heather Davis, have been parenting our own children for eighteen years now.  We have six children.  Our oldest is Rebecca who is almost eighteen.  Nathan is a month away from being sixteen.  Mallory is twelve and Paige is eleven.  We have recently added two new children to our home.  Joe (five) and Gabbie (1) came over from Liberia, West Africa three weeks ago.  Yes, we are starting all over again.

There are a lot of books on how to train and raise Godly children.  Our favorites are probably some of yours also.  But, there may be those out there who are just beginning and really do not know where to start.  We are hoping this blog will be a combination of our thoughts and those that have inspired us through our parenting experiences.  All in all, we strive to make sure that all of our ideas are built upon the foundation of God's word.

So, welccome to what we hope will be an encouragement and a growing experience to all parents.  ~Eric and Heather
