• Aug. 25, 2008 - Pioneer Day Celebration
| I think that Adelle is practicing for a career as a news reporter. At least she really likes me to take videos of her talking about what she has been doing. Here is one from the Pioneer Day Celebration at our church. We got there late because we were swimming with friends before so the only booths she got to visit were the face painting and the hair braiding. She said that she screamed inside her head while she was getting her hair braided but didn't let one peep out. I am so proud! She has got the lowest pain tolerance of anyone I know.

• Aug. 10, 2008 - Did you hear the screaming?
Did any of you hear the screaming on Friday afternoon? It was sure loud enough! Adelle was walking on the brick wall in our yard and she lost her balance and fell off the wall into the neighbor's rose bush. At least the screaming this time was justified. Joel, the ever patient and caring one (no wonder she likes him better ) rescued her and pulled the thorns out. She has scratches on both legs and limped around for a day but appears to have survived. I wasn't sure that I was going to survive the hours of whiney crying that went on after the fall. Am I the worst mother ever? It is a good thing Joel was home. I am not as sympathetic as him. |

• Jul. 27, 2008 - Adelle is swearing!
A few weeks ago Adelle called me a "silly ass." After me looking shocked for a couple of seconds she said, " what? It was in Peter Pan." Oops we've been reading that aloud and I didn't even think about what I was reading to her.
Then last week Adelle was sent to her room for something, I can't remember what, and when I told her to shut the door she said out loud to herself, "shut the **** door." Again after I looked shocked she said, "what? Harry Potter said it." She has been reading the Harry Potter books to herself in bed.
I talked to Joel about it and he said, " I guess we have to tell her all the words she can't say."
Very funny. Instead we talked about asking what words mean before using them. (she didn't know about those words) and trying to figure out whether the word was a good one to use or not from the context of the reading.
We didn't even have to send her to school to learn to swear. We gave her books to teach her! |

• May. 17, 2008 - All I want for Christmas...
is my two front teeth! Adelle lost 4 teeth in one week, including both of her top teeth, a child's dream! At least I remember wishing both of my top teeth would come out at the same time. She looks so cute! It is hard to believe someone this cute could torture her little sister the way Adelle does. One day we found these notes posted all over the house.
I couldn't get a great photo of it but it is a picture of Maeve with a circle and slash through it. They were posted in all the places Adelle thinks Maeve shouldn't go, ie the pantry, the bedroom they share, etc. |

• Jan. 10, 2008 - Mating
| I only have a few minutes to write tonight but I had to tell this humorous story before I forgot it. Tuesday night when I returned from book club (Digging to America by Anne Tyler- really good) there was this animal standing on the fence between our home and the neighbors. It looked like a cat from far away but as I got closer I suspected it was a opossum. I have never seen one before so Joel came out to confirm it. Then I woke up Adelle so she could see it. It was cool. She was a little scared but being woken up out of a dead sleep probably didn't help. I just really wanted her to see it. Today we painted a picture of an opossum in our nature books after reading a book about them. Also last week we read a book about rabbits. Both books talk about mating. So tonight while I was watching our neighbor's 4 year old son for them, Adelle and him decide to pretend to be lions. I am in the kitchen making dinner when I hear Adelle ask him if he wants to "mate". I called Adelle into the kitchen and confirmed that she had no real idea what that meant. But I told her that we don't "mate" until we are married and it isn't something that we talk about except in private. She was just so cute and innocent. Joel and I had a good laugh about it when he came home and heard the story. |

• Dec. 15, 2007 - Artist Party
On Thursday we had a birthday party for Adelle's 6th birthday. We chose an Artist theme for the party for two reasons, first we found a lot of fun activities with that theme in the party book my MIL gave me and second Adelle wants to be an artist when she grows up. The 6 kids we invited were suppose to come as their favorite color but on the day of the party Adelle refused to comply with her own party rules. No surprise there. This is the relay where you had to paint something specific on the wall with water and then run back to your team.
Pin the beret on Adelle. Joel made the picture of Adelle and the hats. I chose this photo because you can see Adelle's gum in her mouth. In our family you can have gum at 6 and since her birthday she had pretty consistently had a piece of gum in her mouth. We are hoping the novelty wears off soon!

Our pinata! Adelle and I made it. It was sort of a pig but not colored. Just made with pieces of paper that the girls had colored on. We didn't have any trees to hang it on so Joel came up with this contraption between the palm tree and our porch. It worked great and we got rid of all of Adelle's old halloween candy! After a photo treasure hunt that happened too fast for picture taking we went inside to make salt dough bead necklaces. The only problem was that Joel had put the cake in the oven due to lack of counter space. I turned the oven on to bake the beads and forgot about the cake until the oven was 300 degrees!
So this photo is of a slightly melted Christmas tree. Adelle requested this design complete with the specific color and placement of ornaments. Joel did a great job decorating it!
Adelle only blew out one candle on her first attempt. So much for her wish! |

• Nov. 9, 2007 - Adelle's big news!
Adelle has been growing her hair out for months with the plan of cutting it and donating it to Locks of Love. Today was the big day. She loves her new look and thinks that people will not recognize her now. I asked her if she thought that her hair might turn blond if she cut it off and she thought maybe it would. She loves looking at herself in the mirror, which we are afraid might cause more drama attacks. She is going to love all the attention she gets at first with the new look but might be disappointed when people still know it is her!
