Jun. 1, 2008 - What a weekend...

Well hey! Sorry I didn't tell y'all were I was going. I went up to the LEAH Homeschool Convention up in Rochester. So I guess I'll tell you some of the things I did up there. (Pictures coming soon!)

First off let me tell you the drive took FOREVER and it was really warm out and it was gross. So yeah. But my friend came along with us so it made it a bit more fun.

Anyway we got sort of lost in Rochester trying to find the hotel parking garage. I was trying to tell my mom where to go but I got distracted. It went sort of like this:
Mom: "Ok, now you read the directions from this map and tell me where to go."
Me: "Yeah sure!"
Mom: "What first?"
So I'm giving directions, then right in the middle I see this huge building. No, I don't get to go to big cities all the time so it was pretty cool to me. And the way the sun was hitting it the whole thing was a gold color;
Mom: "Now what?"
Me: "OOOoooOO! A big shiny gold building!"
Mom: "What?"
Me: "Look at that one!"
At this point my friend grabs the paper from my loose grasp and takes over. I just stare at all the buildings, peoples and cars. Later, as the traffic got worse, I'm just hoping we won't go down a one way street the wrong way and die terrible deaths. But my mom got through ok and we finally made it to the hotel garage.

We were sharing a room with two of my mom's friends, but they weren't at the hotel when we got there. We had a slight problem at the counter finding the room but that's boring. The hotel room was pretty nice. Big TV but it had some sort of problem so everything on the screen was either green or red. We watched Pirates of the Caribbean on it and I was guessing Jack and just about everyone else got real seasick until we found out the problem.

The convention itself was really awesome. A lot of great speakers were there. My favorite was one about finding your dream and making it come true. Most of you who are reading this probably know I'm going to try my hardest to become a graphic illustrator, so I had fun in that seminar.

The vendors were mostly books and stuff like that but there was one with all these art books and supplies. You would be stocked for life if you had all that stuff in your house!! Unfortunately most of the things I wanted there were a bit....much for my wallet, shall we say. Usually I'm not much into necklaces and stuff but I saw a cool one. It has a really tiny key and a lock and cross all attached to this ring which is attached to a silver chain. I took a liking to it and bought it on the spot. My friend and I both bought some pins and buttons to put on our handbags. (or in my case, backpack and camera case)

Speaking of cameras, another thing (which I guess kind of got on my friend's nerves a little bit) I did was take pictures of just about everything. And when I say everything I mean pretty much everything. I'll show you some of them later. We were both sitting in the hall, bored because the teen workshop had already started and there weren't many people around. I brought out my camera and started taking pictures of every person that walked by. I guess they must have thought it was weird but it was pretty fun. There was these two random (hah!) guys who come up to me and they say,
"Hey, can you take a picture of us?"
I don't even know them but I guess a picture couldn't hurt. So I agreed. I snapped a shot and showed it to them and then they say,
"That's funny! Thanks! You can delete it now." Then they left and I didn't see them again. Oh well, hope they liked their picture.

Yes...there was another pretty weird thing that happened. My mom and her two friends and me and my friend were all walking back to the hotel after dinner. I see one of those little bus stop things and I thought it looked (yes, I am weird) cool. So I'm saying, "Hey I want to go into that thing!"
And I was about to when I look in and on the benches are two, I think, homeless guys lying on them. At the exact same time they look up at me with a strange expression and I back out saying, "Or...um....maybe not."
Yeah, yeah. Everyone else was laughing but I don't think it was that hilarious.

I'll tell you the rest tomorrow. And hopefully I'll get some pictures up.
