May. 1, 2007 - U is for Universe
|
Here are a few things we may do,
to help us learn the letter U!
- Talk about the Universe, look at and draw pictures of planets, stars, etc. Color this page.
- Look at Renoir's Umbrellas.
- Make an Upside-down cake to celebrate Peregrine's half-birthday. (Which happens to be today!)
- Play "I Unpacked my Grandma's Suitcase", taking something out for each letter of the alphabet. Peregrine loves this game, and after playing last summer, remembered some of the items months later!
- Practice Psalm 75:1 "Unto You, Oh, God, do we give thanks."
- Let Peregrine have a go on a Ukelele. (We actually have one of these.)
- Make The U Coloring Book from about.com.
- Practice dwelling together in Unity! (See Psalm 133!) The kids love it when I sing the song.
- Learn about some animals that live Underground. Peregrine is especially fascinated with Pangolins right now. (A week ago I couldn't have told you what a pangolin was!)
If you have any more ideas, please share them!
Until next time....

What is an upside down cake? Reading your posts on Letter days reminds me of the time my oldest was 4. We did letter days, like you, and I had a lot more time to spend with just him. It was so fun and I'm so glad you are having this time now. My youngest (6) just isn't getting the attention that I'd like to give her and she really needs it. She hasn't picked up on letters and numbers like my boys did and reading lessons are stressful. She knows more than she lets on, I sure wish our lessons went better. I've eased back a bit and try to read to her more. Anyway, I was thinking about the letter U - maybe things that go Up? Or the United States. Or making pretzels shaped like a U? You're doing a terrific job, Mom! Take care!

May. 3, 2007 - curricululm sale |

We are headed to the used curriculum sale/fair down in Eugene next month with some friends. Is that the same one you will be going to? It would be great to see you all! There is a lady speaking that my friend just loves, and is anxious to hear her speak. I would love to have my own copies of the Millers. I am keeping my eyes out for them!

| Well, let's see: you could eat your upside down cake 'under' the table; take a walk with 'umbrellas', rain or shine; you could write a letter/draw a picture to an 'uncle'; you could practice 'unzipping' things. Sounds like you guys will have lots of fun! |

| Oh, how fun! I used to teach letters this way with my oldest. Sadly, my younger lost out on a bit of this type of learning. I may have to find a way to fit it back in. |
