The Children's Dance Festival

9:13 AM, Thursday, April 30, 2009 .. 3 comments .. Link

Here are some pictures from the dance that I was in, in the Children's Dance Festival in Virginia. My friends Lauren and Julia were dancing with me. We did the same dance that we did at the McGuffy Art Center a few months ago. I will also put these pictures on my other blog. Down below will be some of the music that the other dancers danced to (I couldn't find ours). Coincidentally, a guy I knew from Hebrew School (Josh, a tap dancer) was in 2 dances in the dance festival. I saw him a couple of times and he didn't really recognize me (it's been a while) but then his mom came up to me and said hi, and then he came over and said our dance was really good. Josh was dancing from the Orange School Of Performing Arts, a competitive school, and very expensive. But they're dances were really good.

Here are the pictures from Julia's, Lauren's and My dance:

Here are some other dancers with really awsome costumes! They were all dressed in black, but they stuck glow-sticks on them! Yes, they really are real people.

That is all for today! As soon as I can I will put up pics of peoples costumes for the Spring Gala!

Hello! So rehearsals are coming along pretty well I think. On Monday we had an extra long rehearsal since it was spring break. Most of the time was spent working on Lauren and Amia, the Girl and the Fairy Doll. Mrs. Hart said they wern't acting enough. Actually, she said we all were not acting enough, and that was probably true. So Amia and Lauren were told to work on their dance for a while. Then the rest of us dancers went in to see the dance a few times, give tips (Audrey did not hold back any of her own at all) , and judge. Eventually the points went up to 9 and 1/2, and Mrs. Hart came in to see it. She said it was a lot better than before. :-) Then we did a bit more on the finale, and I think we finished the Ballerina doll's dance!!! At last Mrs. Hart put in some other dancers! If only in the last 16 seconds. :-/ Oh well.

Right now I am attempting to make a skirt out of old jeans, so we will see how they turn out. Gotta go!

Sorry guys, the announcment was that Mrs. Hart might be having a theatre class next semester! She said she knows someone who played Belle in an Asian version of Beauty and the Beast. I have to write on my other blog now!

Wednsday

12:30 PM, Friday, March 20, 2009 .. 1 comments .. Link

Wednsday was the same as usual. We did some odd dancing games. Then in jazz Autumn wasn't there, so Rachel taught the class. Now, Christine and I don't really like her jazz classes, cause mostly all we do is stretch a bunch of things. And that was exactly what we did this class. Near the end, We did a ton of crunches and push-ups, and right after we did back bends, we are a good combonation if you want to get a stomach ache. Which I did. But then class was thankfully over.

Thursday's class was okay. We didn't do pointe. But we did do a lot of jumps. In between the 2/3 class and advanced I talked to Christine and Jessica. Lauren had done something to her toe on Monday, and Claire had broken her ankle, as I told you before. We talked for a while and then went into class.  Once again Mrs. Hart told me to pull up. Thats all for today. Bye.

Hey guys. Som first of all I am going to dance in 3 more dances; The Russian doll's dance, the Spanish doll's dance and the can-can doll's dance. Ohmygosh, it is sooooo awsome, in the can-can doll's dance, me and a bunch of other dolls are going to do a can-can line with the can-can doll! It is going to be soooo much fun! We also added some more stuff to my dance. Well, actually, it's not really my dance, cause (thank goodness) other dolls will bedancing in it. Why do I say "thank goodness"? Because mine is the longest dance in the whole thing! Except of course, the finale and the begining.

So, yesterday in class Mrs. Hart said that we would be working on lifting from plie in fifth to pirrouette. We only did two excersizes for that. *Sigh* BUT! I was actually able to do a double pirrouette on pointe! On my right foot anyway. My left foot was killing me, so Mrs. Hart said I didn't have to do it on the left. She also asked all of us if any of us were going to summer camp. I ddn't say anything, and she was all "Come on, Becka!" Actually remembering my name for once. Well. My face got all red and I shook my head. Of course, there still is the chance that I will still be able to go. It's just the boarding I have a problem with. I don't know if dady made the call inot CPYB to see who they have for housing- likee some people will take in dancers each summer. I don't know. Well,  Daddy just told me I have to go write thank you notes and pick up the towel closet. Nobody can ever keep that closet neat except me. :-) Oh well.

Hey, If there is anything I can add to this blog please tell me!

hey guys

Hello everybody. Well I have rehearsal yesterday, and right before Mrs. Hart said that if we were going to dance on stage on pointe, we should start practicing now. So I put on my pointe shoes.

I ran through it once. Mrs. Hart predictably changed the arms for a few steps. Then she had me do the same combination going the other way. And then she tried to have Lauren and me do this weird weaving step, but then she realized that to do a weaving step you need to have more than two people. So then we just did arabesques against each other. That works. LOL!

Then in class we had some other person come in and take the class with us. I am not sure why though. I forgot to bring my thera-band to class because I was using it to help my tendons in my left leg earlier, so I forgot to put it in my bag. But it was okay since other people forgot them too. There were about 12 people in class! I mean, thats a lot for ABT! But it was a good class. Oh I am tired. I will probably write more later, if you wish. But I will anyway if you don't. :-)

Summer School

WAIT! Do you hear that? That is the sound of summer. THAT is the sound of a summer full of work. And heat. And no ballet classes. Yes my friends. There comes a time (or more than one) in every persons life. where they have to admit to the truth about things. One of those things, are having no money.

Okay, time out! What exactly am I talking about? Speak in English. No summer camp. I slowly came to realize, that it is not possible. My begging letters? I only got two replies. I am not complaining! No, no! I stopped complaining about these things (to others than myself) long ago. I am simply admitting to myself, that there is no chance. Whatsoever. Instead, I shall be looking or a job. Or two. To pay for camp next summer. Of course, one might think I would still take ballet classes at the school near me. Maybe. If I do, I shal have to volenteer at the school to pay for it though. And that is perfectly fine with me. I shall pray 10 times a day to God to give me strength and patience to deal with the little kids. Though if I am lucky, it wont just be volunteering in classes. It will be cleaning and stuff like that. I'd have to find a morning job. I really don't know what I would do. I'll have to think of something. But one thing I am sure of. I will have to wait till next year for ballet camp. If you all have any ideas for a job for a 14 year old, PLEASE COMMENT!!!!! I BEG YOU! Thank you. :-)

Do I sound depressed to you? Cause if I do, tell me!

The Ballerina Doll

12:30 PM, Wednesday, March 4, 2009 .. 0 comments .. Link

Hello! Rebekah here, speaking directly from her dining room, and eating salad for lunch. I am contemplating the past Ballerina doll rehearsals I have been too, and I came to realize, that I only have 48 counts done in my dance. That is pathetic after having 3 rehearsals done. The first one, I did about 36 counts, the next one, Mrs. Hart ( one of my ballet teachers) changed it, then added 12 more coounts on. But the third one, Mrs. Hart just changed it again. On top of that, I missed my last rehearsal because of all the snow on Monday. *Sigh* So, I hope Mrs. Hart remembers that we already changed the dance three times, and we wil add on at least 20 more counts.

I am not sure what to think of my role in the Doll shop. All the other girls dolls come from places like Spain, or Russia, or they have a backround like Raggady-Anne, or Cowboys. But me, the ballerina doll, their are too many stories to base my role after. I have never heard the music for my dance before. Mrs. Hart is using all kinds of different music. I wonder where she gets it all! I don't know what exactly to do... Mrs. Hart said to research our dolls, but what am I supposed to do? I am taking ballet classes, but who am I to base my doll after?

I guess I'll just act like the typical stereotyped ballerina dancer, complete with pointe shoes and a tutu. Oh yeah. This will be fun!
