• Apr. 4, 2007 - Moved to Blogger

I've moved over to Blogger since the new version requires very little html, and therefore less time to set up and maintain. Being on a Mac, I understand that there are editing buttons on HSBlogger that don't show up for me. I'm still reading (and linking to) blogs over here at hsblogger. The new blog is Redbud's Lane.

• Aug. 18, 2006 - This Year's Plans

Here's my answers to the contest questions from Seeking Rest in the Ancient Paths--Homeschool Blog. What type of homeschooler are you? How do you homeschool? (Do you plan??) We use a classical/eclectic approach, which does require some planning, but not down to minutiae. Life necessitates being adaptable. Are you using a specific curriculum or a conglomeration or none? A conglomeration, definitely. Our rising 4th grade son will be using Bible and history from Veritas Press, Latin from Memoria Press, art from Abeka, Drawing With Children, & Adventures in Art (art appreciation) from Cornerstone Curriculum, music appreciation with Music and Moments with the Masters from Cornerstone Curriculum, violin lessons, Math 65 from Saxon Publishers, health from Abeka, Maps, Charts, and Graphs from MCP, Easy Grammar 45, and various other resources as needed. Our 9th grade daughter's core curriculum is World Views of the Western World I from Cornerstone Curriculum; also, we're doing an OT Survey the 1st semester and a NT Survey the 2nd semester, Essentials of Music Theory from Alfred Publishing and violin lessons, Total Health, Latin in the Christian Trivium, Logic (Intro & Interm.) from Logos, world history with Streams of Civilization from CLP, Algebra II from Saxon Publishers, and other resources as needed. Both will be working on writing with IEW's TWSS. If it all gets overwhelming, we'll cut back on subjects & push them to the summer, or jettison something if it proves not worthy of the effort. It gets too hot in Texas to stay outside much anyway. :^) Are you making it up yourself? [Snort] Who could make this up?! Do you have a plan or just use ideas as you go? I have to follow a general plan or we'd never get anything done. Do you homeschool in desks, at the table or anywhere it works? DD generally sits at the table. DS has to wiggle a lot and is often on the floor or sofa, but sits at the table for penmanship and timed math tests. Tell me what you are excited about that you will be doing! All of it, really. DS will be studying the Middle Ages, which I know he will love. There's lots of good stuff here. I just hope we stick to it and reap the benefits. Are you going to teach each child in their own grade level or do you multi-grade teach? With one in 4th grade and one in 9th grade, each one will definitely be at his and her respective levels. I will be studying Latin and violin with the kids, and trying to keep up with my daughter's reading in the classics. Yes, it will be a busy, but very exciting, year.
