friday's top ten blessings
  1. it didn't snow- the weather man was wrong :-)
  2. went for a walk today and saw a lot of leaves of many colors on the ground-
  3. did a little decluttering up in the almost but not quite an attic- it has rooms in it but we can not sleep up there due to fire regulations- re insurance- but it is/was a good place to do crafts or hobbies and storage- however the storage seems to have got away on us- a lot of it was things that papa thought that he might use or need some day- it is very bitter sweet and I see his dreams and yet his dreams are not needed by him anymore- so I am sorting and just ''letting go'' some is toss- some is give away and very little is for me to keep---but I am so glad he had his dreams and his joy - and even though he did not get to finish all of his projects he had a wonderful time dreaming them-
  4. fed the kids frozen pizza straight from the oven after finding it in the freezer- who said Oma has to be healthy every night--LOL
  5. the boy who is a friend is on a holding pattern on my couch as he locked his keys in his truck--AGAIN--so he has to wait for his mom to come - this way the kids have to stay home with Oma--hahaha
  6. Dogman is asleep in his favorite chair- he is getting more settled with his papa-friend gone away
  7. no dirty dishes due to number 4
  8. found a new chocolate brownie recipe that I will try soon- it was upstairs in some of the ''stuff'' we were saving for some day
  9. my house plants are starting to relax after the hot summer- heat seems to slow them down-
  10. my friends here who encourage me with your words and thoughts- it is a good thing to have some one read what is in my heart- papa used to listen - he was a good listener-

good night, every one- hugs from Meme

the list

I talked about a list of 100 plus things that I am grateful for that I really have not thanked God for as they are just ''there'' and so of course I had not thought that maybe God would like to know that I appreciate them- I know He knows my heart but maybe-he would also like to hear my ''heart-
so as soon as I have generated the 'list' I will start to post it------- the 100 is just a number I choose as I could never complete the numbers that belong in the list as there would be not enough time but it is a start......
an example is :
1. the color red== God has given us so many shades of red in nature plus the knowledge to create more reds on our own- it is a color to warm the heart- and often used as the love color--it is the color of our blood which gives us life- God created the many colors of red - papa had a saying that I would like to share- '' every woman deserves a little red in her life.....'' (meaning that it is ok to be good to yourself too)
thank you, Lord for the color ''red''-

this is sort of the kind of list I had in mind and the reasons why I appreciate the particular gift from God.......

a long time

it has been so long that I have blogged here-

as you know, my dear hubby had pancreatic cancer

on July 21-2008 he went home with Jesus

my heart is broken and I am just resting in the Lord

there is so much of his story that I want to share but

the time is not right yet-

I am still a weeping widow although I rejoice in my sorrow

He was a wonderful kind and good husband- dad, brother, son, and grandpa (papa) and great

grand pa-

-------I hope to be back soon- I was pleased that I remembered my user name and pass word- the kids had deleted my cookies :-( but I got in right away- Meme still remembers some things

tired towels?

Today I was sitting in the doctor's office waiting for my appointment - because I had finally managed to sort out a good day for me and papa- I left papa in capable hands of g'kid, his brother and his friend- I was relaxing and just enjoying a few minutes of quiet-yes, quiet as there seemed to be a shortage of patients in our town--LOL - I was skimming a magazine as I have learned not to start reading an interesting article as that will be the day the doctor is on time-when I saw an page of hints- on hint was tabled ''tired towels'' and of course told how the said towels can be revived- well, I never noticed my towels getting tired before today but I do know what tired is....so tired that putting one foot in front of the other is work ......It made me wonder who in this world of the good and the bad and the ugly would worry about their towels being tired? I guess the hint person and the magazine certainly do/did- If I knew what tired towels were I certainly would do something to revive them beyond washing them and tossing them into the dryer--LOL- if you read to the end of the story I will tell you what to do with your tired towels-
Papa had a rough week and was unable to go for his chemo- he just did not have enough strength to even go for the blood work- we can no longer go for the mail as it is too far for him to go there and come back. We stayed at home until today and then he was able to go for a ride with a friend- he was tuckered out but also lifted up- he was able to see something beyond our four walls- our four walls are nice to see but looking at them day after day makes papa a dull boy- so the ride was a good thing for him as it gave he something to chat about...
Papa is still papa though- during most of our marriage when ever he got a spare dollar here or there he would always split the money between him and I( or is that me?). He sold one of his big saws and tonight he took the money out of his wallet and split it in half- half for me and half for him and he always gives me the bigger half. So now we both will have some fun---- and me being me I have already forgot where I put my half.....(smile).
there is not much other news beyond our four walls- we have had two hot days in a row and spring seems to have sprung in our neighbor hood-
oh yes, about the tired towels- put them in the washer with hot water and double soup and soak and wash and rinse twice- personally I think my towels will stay tired.......
Remember to have with a gentle spirit, a compassionate heart and quiet patience
and you will accomplish much moretoday and tomorrow.
have a great week end and Meme will return- and here is some strength for your journey:

"But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hateyou, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. If anyonestrikes you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from anyone who takesaway your coat do not withhold even your shirt. Give to everyone who begsfrom you; and if anyone takes away your goods, do not ask for them again. Do to others as you would have them do to you." ~Luke 6:27-31

at our house today
  • here we are in the midst of spring -today was a beautiful day - yesterday too- and we got no snow at our house on thursday but a whole bunch of the rest of Alberta did--10 inches at the farm place which is about 20 minutes from here if you are taking the way of the crow and 25 if you take the roads -
  • we are living pretty quiet here unless the grand daughter and her boy who is a friend are hanging around-
  • Papa David is weak and only able to walk short distances and stand for short times- the distance beyond 100 feet is now too much, standing shaving is too long- he seldom ventures any where in the house alone-
  • he did have chemo again this week which is now a choice as either way does not change things - I think the chemo is now doing  more bad than good and the doctor said he will let papa decide if or if not........right now- papa is still hanging on to the chemo.
  • we did want to go away some where some time where cancer did not follow but papa is now too weak to go very far.........his brother and wife with us may go for an over night somewhere close to home= it is hard because everything now is about cancer and health and papa- all our thoughts of what he can do or eat need to be considered -
  • I am hanging on by the threads of my tears.....I feel so helpless to know what to do to make him comfort and joy.....sometimes I just sit and look at him - and he looks at me-- and that is our joy.
  • Dogman has been running in and out all day looking for spring and a walk but he will have to chase the wind this spring
  • we decided not to do any plants or gardening other than rocks this year- just too much for me to be outside too so we have some nice big rocks that I will rearrange and stick some potted plants out-
  • things are different and adapting and accepting are the hard parts,,,,,but we  carry on forward with the Lord- trusting Him
  • teddy bears reminds you and me that we need to have fun and yes. papa and I do still have some good laughs--mostly at his expense- he can still tease the grand kids and snitch some of their fries-
  • huggles me, Meme and Papa too
  • 'LITTLE THINGS'
Dear God, please give to me
A thankful heart for little things-
For sunshine on my kitchen floor
    For news the postman brings;
    For memories in the making,
Things the children say and do,
That I will smile about, perhaps
    Some future quiet day.
    Grant me appreciation
Of the small joys that are mine-
    The special birthday parties,
    My honeysuckle vine;
    The clean, fresh smell
    Of clothes just washed;
    The ivy on my wall,
    The children's thrilled delight
To wake and find the first snowfall.
    For robins in the springtime,
    And autumn's crispy weather-
    For leaves that crunch,
    Friends in for lunch
    And laughter shared together.
    Give me enthusiasm
To greet each brand new day
    With honest joy in living
    As I go my simple way;
Let me love the little things
and thank our Father for them when I pray.(authorunknown)

we r home
 quick good night
  • we got back home
  • after 13 hours in hospital while papa got his blood transfusions
  • we are tired
  • it is snowing here and cold
  • Dogman missed us and now is following us around
  • in hopes that something will fall to the floor
  • but we are too tired to eat
  • so we found him a cracker- he loves crackers and generally
  • manages to bribe one or two out of us per day
  • no g'kids tonight
  • no new news at house which is a good thing
  • For by the grace (unmerited favor of God) given to me I warn everyone among you not to estimate and think of himself more highly than he ought [not to have an exaggerated opinion of his own importance], but to rate his ability with sober judgment, each according to the degree of faith apportioned by God to him. For as in one physical body we have many parts (organs, members) and all of these parts do not have the same function or use, So we, numerous as we are, are one body in Christ (the Messiah) and individually we are parts one of another [mutually dependent on one another].

PURPLE FOR PAPA

after some research and talking to the cancer clinic

we have found that papa's color for cancer is purple

like pink is for breast cancer--- so now the grandkids

and Meme too are finding purple ribbons or socks

just to show our love for papa David-

we also feed him purple popsicles--LOL

so if you see a purple ribbon remember that

this cancer also needs a cure--donate what you can -

for pancreatic cancer. We hope to find a cure for future

generations -

We are thinking  and praying for  tomorrow for david's blood transfusion- thank you to someone for donating blood to give david energy and better health--

it will take 8 hours as he needs 3 units so also remember

to donate blood if you can-

today Dogman had his hair cut and polished and nails too- he looks like

a top dog and certainly knows how to put on the dog--

we had a quiet day with some company- and just did a lot of nothing- the g'kids

popped in to see papa and have a popsicle with him-

we are off to bed early as papa david has to be at the hospital

at 7:15 - I will go with him and take some books-

"O give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love
endures forever."  ~Psalm 106:1Ashleys Pictures 425

This is the old barn that I used to play --up in the loft with brother bill-- the barn is older than me- and now pretty ,much standing alone but still holds odds and ends - no more cows though as farm is just a grain farm now- what fun we had climbing that ladder to hide from mom and dad-- at least till supper time

huggles me, Meme

Apr. 16, 2008
it is me
we had a long day
David had chemo today and it took longer than usual
tomorrow he has his blood cross matched
and on Friday he has to have 3 units of blood
his blood is very low
he is so weak
but the doctor feels the transfusion will help
so much happening  to us/him.......
at least we can do the blood in our town hospital which
means he does not have to travel again
he is in much pain as he has contusions on his ribs from the fall - the
cancer doctor called for the x-rays to see why he has so much pain
the local doctor did not even call us back re the x-rays
the cancer doctor does not know how long it will take to heal due
to papa's health so we need prayer for healing so he can at
least move  about some
we are hanging on...the Lord is our shepherd-

almost too tired

I am almost too tired to write a blog tonight

so will list my 10 top blessings for today

1. I did not hear the alarm go off

2. grand daughter slept beside Meme all night on a mat-

3. papa hubby was ok this morning although very tired today

4. some sun shine among the clouds

5. a friend came and took papa for a drive just to get some fresh air

6. no bills in the mail

7. laundry is done for another day or two

One of the scribes asked Jesus, 'Which commandment is the first of all?'
Jesus answered, "The first is, 'Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord
is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all
your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' The second
is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other
commandment greater than these."  ~Mark 12:28-31

SHORT BREAD FOR YOUR HEART
''Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night..........''--Psalm 17:3

In our home we now leave a light on so that David can move about with out falling. When ever I wake up I see the light shining and it reminds  me of David and that the Lord is our comfort in the darkness. However our life is now we know there are blessings in Him.
