he spent the next 50 days in the hospital with me coming and going to see him

the last week I was able to spend with him and I then brought him home

he is quite well but there is not more for them to do

I have been doing some journals of our journey and I am sorry I did not get them here

I will share tonights and try to get here faithfully when I do write

we covet your prayers

  • had a sleepy morning and missed the alarm but did get up anyway- heard the grand daughter shut it off--gal after my own heart
  • David was up quite early but kind of moves about quietly- he or a mouse get up every night and take a dish of something into his room - that is ok as whenever he can eat it is a good thing-
  • a tiring day or maybe it was because I was tired but every thing was an effort to do
  • company this afternoon
  • some one some how snuck a unbaked apple pie into our freezer but I cannot for the life of me guess who but I do know I am baking it tomorrow :-)
  • I really missed my man today that I knew before- but I love this new man too but sometimes I just want my old papa David back- sigh- I am praying for strength to look only forward right now and let the past go- I will always love both of my man as I know he loves me but oh, how I wish we had another day of just not knowing about the cancer - it seems that the day the doctor told us which was Dec.19 -2007 was the day he got cancer but of course I know that he had it long before the doctor told us that day but that date will always stand out in our memories
  • David vacuumed today although it took him a long time and it is kind of patchy it will be a good memory
  • I am blessed that I can have David at home even if he is a stranger at times- he is a good kind stranger-
  • the family except for Ashley are slowly drifting away- I guess they do not know what to do for the new papa- sigh
  • good friends took us to the city yesterday for Easter dinner- I do not know what we would do if we did not have them to lean on-----or be with
  • please do not misunderstand me as I love the new man as much or more than the old man and many parts of the old man are still in the new man but oh, I do miss our gay times together -
  • on the other side of the coin I think I have had to grow strong fast and I am much stronger than I ever believed I could be
  • The Lord has give each of us much in this situation
  • we can still laugh together especially at some of those funny things that dear papa does now and then
  • we can still cry together as we talk about the past and the future and how the presence is
  • pray for us to continue this journey with much love and time and that our steps together will not falter
  • I am learning to :
Recognize the joy that comes from the simple things in life like a smile, a hug,
or a good meal.  Lord, help me think about the good things in my life and
how my life would change without them.
my strength for today:

"Not that I have already obtained this or have already reached the goal; but
I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.
Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but this one thing I
do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,  I
press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ
Jesus."  ~Philippians 3:12-14

  • news all quiet here
  • off to read my books that I am holding for ''read later''

    Pearl Barley - Love
    Split Peas - Joy
    Black Beans - Peace
    Red Beans - Patience
    Pinto Beans - Kindness
    Navy Beans - Goodness
    Lentils - Gentleness
    Black-Eye-Peas - Self-Control

     Smoked sausage or diced ham

    Directions:
Rinse beans, Put in Crock-pot & cover with water. "About 3/4 full of
liquid & beans total", - Add meat, turn on low, cook 8 to 10 hours. (   serve   with fresh bread. )

NOTE: I buy 1 pound of each of these beans, open them and put into a
large container, then I mix the completely so there always ready when I
am, I measure out 2 cups and that's enough to feed 4 to 6 folks.

NOTE: This also makes a lovely gift for someone if you layer each kind of bean in a jar, then attach recipe.

drink, and do not keep worrying.  For it is the nations of the world that
strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them.
Instead, strive for his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as

my day today :-)
  • my day today was quiet  but good, chores all done
  • weather was cool to cold with sunshine and wind=
  • baked some buns = I love the smell of baking bread-
  • Dogman did not go outside today more than what was necessary to do dog business- he is not fond wind and can smell it--LOL
  • papa David and the other old men finally near the end of re-doing the church bathrooms
  • and that is my story :-)
  • and I will leave you some strength for your journey to ponder:

"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate
your enemy.' But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who
persecute you,  so that you may be children of your Father in heaven; for he
makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the
righteous and on the unrighteous.  For if you love those who love you, what
reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?  And if you
greet only your brothers and sisters, what more are you doing than others?
Do not even the Gentiles do the same?  Be perfect, therefore, as your
heavenly Father is perfect."  ~Matthew
5:43-48
We can learn to find the good in everyone by asking  for God's guidance and help. There will always be someone who annoys us and there will be people who persecute us.    .  . but when we give love and  do our best to get along with   people- we  receive strength from the Lord.  It becomes easy to love others who are different than us. They may not love us back but they will see the love of Christ in us. We can learn to get along with all people, and the more love we give away, the more we will receive back.
Lets do all we can to love others, in spite of their faults. Practice becoming perfect.

Joy Moments from Meme
We can find joy in the simple things-
a clean room, sunshine on a shoulder,
fresh baked bread, a cup of tea, a quiet moment,
a friend's smile, a Bible verse that sings-
Take time to look and see and you can find joy in the simple things.

''You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy. At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Jesus, I just want you to know.......

Jesus, I just want you to know.....

The other night our Miss Sidney wanted to go outside at bedtime- I suggested that it was dark, and cold and she was not dressed for the occasion- She said that she needed to go and that she would only open the porch door a wee bit- but because she is known as a tiny escape artist I went with her to keep the Meme eye on her.

When we got to the door she did open it just a wee bit and peeked out and turned and said ''I have to say my prayers. Meme sheepishly sat down and let her pray. ''Dear Jesus, hi, I just want you to know.........and she prayed- each thanksgiving and petition was began with ''Jesus, I just want you to know....... The rest of her words were simple and mostly about her day and her expectations for the night and the next day.

I wonder if sometimes I get so technical that I forget to tell ""Jesus, I just want you to know.......all about my day.

Sometimes even Memes can learn from the Miss Sidneys of this world.

----------------------------

Today we got a chance to do yard work and get caught up from our wet spring- some areas were still to damp to do a lot and there is no grass to cut yet as it is just peeking through. Some of our flower beds have new birth and are all cleaned out waiting for sunshine. We did get sun today and now it is cloudy but no threat of rain.

Take care and remember to share your day with Jesus.

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.

A CUP OF JOY #5

A CUP OF JOY--#5

Joy comes in the little things we are blessed with each day. Joy moves beyond being happy. Joy is the peace of understanding that God is love- Joy comes in small surprise packages each day. All we have to do is --open'' them.
I found this poem while cleaning and I wanted to share it with you:
'LITTLE THINGS'
Dear God, please give to me
A thankful heart for little things-
For sunshine on my kitchen floor
For news the postman brings;
For memories in the making,
Things the children say and do,
That I will smile about, perhaps
Some future quiet day.
Grant me appreciation
Of the small joys that are mine-
The special birthday parties,
My honeysuckle vine;
The clean, fresh smell
Of clothes just washed;
The ivy on my wall,
The children's thrilled delight
To wake and find the first snowfall.
For robins in the springtime,
And autumn's crispy weather-
For leaves that crunch,
Friends in for lunch
And laughter shared together.
Give me enthusiasm
To greet each brand new day
With honest joy in living
As I go my simple way;
Let me love the little things
and thank our Father when I pray.

up up and away
I remember when I was a kid we had a book called ''Up, Up and Away or fairly close to that. I It was a title to one of our readers and we read all about Dick and Jane and a dog named Spot and Puff the kitten. And of course, father and mother. They were fun readers and through them brother Bill and I learned to read and go on many adventures- Books were our television and we read something nearly everyday. We also listened to the radio and enjoyed all kinds of stories and songs. Our world was small but our imaginations were not.
I still read everyday and although I do not have the radio on too often now I can listen to television and get my work done at the same time. It is hard for our Miss Sidney to understand how I do not need to see the pictures.
Faith is not seeing the pictures but believing God's word. Faith lifts the soul. Faith is born with in the heart.

Patience:
''Things have a way of working out.''
My father used to say.
''Do your best-
And work and wait and pray.
How many times those words return
When life's a tangled thread-
''Just do your best, today,
and leave
To God the days ahead-
Some where our Master planner works,
Though how we may not know,
Things will work out
The Bible says it is so( Helen Lowrie Marshall)

blogging again
spring break is over
and here I be......our grandkids were on spring break the last 10 days and so kids came and kids went and kids came and kids went- and my time was well used up either cleaning or cooking or cooking and cleaning.......tossed in some spring cleaning too.
the kids had a bit of an upset as their dad accidently ran over their family pet dog- named George and he was killed instantly- everyone was upset as George was their favorite annoying big huge dog who as a rule did not run after and in front of the truck- Sean saw him in the mirror but could not stop in time and George ran too fast and went in front of the truck- they took him to a place to cremate him and will keep his ashes- course we had tears all over the place as the kids were here- I had to tell one and mommy told the others- Miss Sidney took it best out of the three as she is counting on Jesus to take George into heaven- I pray that Miss Sidney will witness to her dad about Jesus and heaven.
so I will only peek a boo tonight and try to get back to normal this week- Hehehehehe- normal for me pretty much is the setting on my dryer--
If we focus too much on ourselves and the troubles in our lives, it is very
difficult to be happy.
Lord, refresh our spirit, help us to let go.
and the Bible says:"This is God, our God forever and ever. He will be our guide forever."~Psalm 48:14

a cup of joy #4
I remember how daddy made coffee- we had the old wood stove to cook on- and he had the old cowboy coffee pot- He would put good well water in the pot and bring it to a boil- pull it closer to the back of the stove and add the coffee grounds plus an egg shell and a pinch of salt- then simmer until the grounds settled- I do not remember times or how much coffee he used but I do know he used the Nabob brand- Then he put poured it into his favourite cup which came with a saucer- This was known as a coffee cup and not a tea cup- there was a difference- coffee cups were larger and not so fancy. They were not made of fine china-
Then he always took 2 sugar cubes and place one between his teeth and drank the coffee- when one gave into the liquid he replaced it with the second one- he always drank his coffee quickly the same as we would eat soup- He only drank one cup and then was off to do farm work-

Joy Verse:  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8
Joy thought:  The measure of God's love is that He loves without measure( St. Bernard)

Joy note from me for you-   April is here and we have a snow storm- lots of snow and more snow days to come- but we don't mind as we know that spring is just around the corner- We had over a hundred robins in our tree and yard this afternoon- we took some raisins out to them but not sure if they stayed long enough to eat- Robins do not eat seed and I did not have any worms. They were drinking off a truck that had melting snow in the back- I have never seen robins come in like that. Usually we see one or two- we stopped counting after the first hundred- it was wonderful to see them out their with their wee red chests.  Not sure if they are planning on staying in our town or taking off to a warmer province.
Dogman stayed in all day- he is no snow dogman. We stayed close to home also and recovered from the grandkids weekend.  I will check in soon and take care and remember the moments of joy.

A CUP OF JOY #3
I can still remember my grandpa even though he died when I was 12 years old. He was a wonderful man and so good to me- We had great fun together and he was always happy to see me and often had some kind of treat for me.  He called me ''his little gettle' or lass.
I remember how he drank his coffee- he was from the ''old country.'' He was Scottish and left Scotland at a young age to travel around the world and finally  settled   in Canada-
He always drank his coffee from a saucer-   after placing a lump of sugar in the middle of the saucer, he would neatly pour in his coffee- I have no idea where this custom came from as he had travelled all over the world before coming to Canada=sometimes he let me do the same thing but with mostly milk and he taught me how to drink with out slurping or dripping.  Now days we would cause quite a stir if we did this-LOL- and also the saucers they make now days are too shallow- It took a special saucer and a special man to enjoy drinking out of a saucer,
Thank God for the joy of remembering ''good things, special times and for grandpa.
Sometimes we get caught up in remembering the wrong past and forgetting to savour the blessings we had. Grandpa made memories for me and with me. I will always remember Grandpa drinking from his saucer.  We can still make memories today for tomorrow.

  Joy verse:
The name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth... Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.

--Acts 4:12
New International Version

Joy Note- a cool day but the sun shone brightly and it just seemed to be warm. Slowly spring is coming in although we are expecting one more snow this weekend.
David had to go to the city and have his pre-admission done for some surgery he will have on his arm April 20. We had Bible study tonight and had a great time- we are using a book by Bill Bright ..I think the name is THE BOOK GOD WROTE..I could get up and look but then I would forget what I was writing and then your brain would match mine- LOL
Dogman wants his snack and he is giving me an ungrateful look so I will close and talk to you tomorrow.

a cup of joy #2
I remember as a child that my mother always drank tea- the old way- some tea leaves put in a cup and then she would add hot water- as soon as the leaves settled her tea was ready to drink- or if we had company she made a pot of tea and used a tiny strainer to place on the cups before pouring the tea- there was only one kind of tea to buy and one brand.  She always saved the tea leaves to put in her garden especially around the rose bushes.
Now when we go to find tea in the super markets there are many different kinds of tea- white tea, green tea, black tea, orange pekoe tea, and red tea and many different brands- Most teas are placed in a little bag which you just pop in the pot or cup and pour hot water over- and of course, there are the herbal teas which come with many names and kinds and brands- the names are fun to read with out even thinking about the tea- names like Thriller and Sleepy Time and Tension Breaker are just a few of the names. I always enjoy trying out a new tea with a fancy name and taste.
I was thinking about joy which comes in more ways than all the kinds of tea. Joy sent from the Lord even on those days when we feel like a tea bag in hot water.
Today I remembered that there is  joy found  in ''quietness'. With today's noise and speed and activities we all need to take time for quietness. We need to sit in silence and listen to God speak to us. We need to rest in Him and turn away from the chaos in our day. When we take time to rest in the shelter of His arms we can have the assurance that He is in control. He will bring quietness to our soul. We need to  take time to accept the joy of quietness.  Take time to rest and drink in some quietness. God has given us  time to rest in Him.
Joy Verse:
  Isa 32:17
And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.  and Psalm 37:7 says:  Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him

Joy thought: All of us need more quietness and resting   in the Father's love.(Meme)

Joy Note:  Just a wee note to say that I will send the  cups of joy   on the days that I can...I am writing these  for my children and grand children and you are my  faithful listeners whom I pray will correct me if I am in Biblical error. I am sending you the drafts and will edit the pages before I print them out for the family.

Today we were blessed to be able to go to my ''aunt Lettie's birthday party. She was 100 years old on March 16. She is still able to walk and hear and see well and has a sound mind. She is indeed a blessing to the family. There were about 200 odds and ends of family to give her a Happy Birthday. Miss Sidney was quite impressed both with her and her cake-and she sang her little heart out wishing her a happy birthday.  Not quite a kid free day here as the kids stopped in after church starving so Oma fed them all before we set off for the party.  Now they are back home and Oma is tired so I will close early today- Good night.

p.s. Oma and Meme are one and the same- just depends on the day what the kids call me :-)

A CUP OF JOY------1
Good and pleasant  things come in cups- a cup of coffee, a cup of tea, a cup of soup and other nice things. Because many of you live all over the world and the internet has brought us together I thought it would be nice if we could share a cup of joy- some days it will be strong and some days mild- ( and with cream and sugar too.)

Joy verse: ''Be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:18-20
**Joy is the flag that is flown in the heart when the Master is in residence.** (unknown)

Joy Note:  all is well here - we had a quiet day home with the dog=we had left over Garfield Delight and it seemed twice as good the second time around. Dogman is 100 percent healed.
no kid weekend- I have been taking some week ends off - to give both kids and us a break. We enjoy each other more this way.
Papa David went to visit his son who is in jail. They had a good visit and Greg seems to be more content in changing his life.  It is easy for him to make changes now but it will be a hard when he is released.  He needs prayer.
the jail is a strange place to enter and   I will wait to see him when he comes out.
Barbie called yesterday and our grandson is graduating soon and will spend a year in Bible College and then he is going to be an RCMP.( a Canadian Police) Greg will have to be good or get busted by his nephew--LOL
Well, time to go and send this before Dogman takes us to bed.
When I am feeling better I will send a bigger cup= (smile)

RUNNING BY.........
here I am--not lost, just busy- we have had a quiet week so far. Yesterday we went out for pancake supper at the church and then to a meeting and today we did a bit of shopping- our local store had mid-week madness so we found a few good things-- then came home and made some oven fries, carrots and cheese on the fries- not the carrots on the fries though- LOL-
Now that the lent season is here- it is time to reflect on what the Lord did for us-I found this poem in one of my mad moments of cleaning and thought it was good to share: I will be back soon but right now in a holding pattern- take care and God bless everyone.

      I GIVE YOU THESE

To those who bear a cross-
I give you these-
The picture of a garden, and of one
Kneeling in prayer, alone, at set if sun
Alone, as only you can understand-
A stranger in a once familiar land,
The echo of His agonizing prayer
That, floating still upon the troubled air,
Unites all heavy hearts in sympathy-
In common with the Man of Galilee.
The story of that first glad Easter day-
The tidings that the stone was rolled away.
The hope that's wafted on the breeze-
To those that bear a cross-
I give you these.

sending some JOY
Joy verse:

1Th 5:16

1Th 5:17

1Th 5:18

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Pray without ceasing.
Rejoice evermore.
Joy Note:
Being joyful evermore may  be hard to find unless we seek it. = Often we look at circumstances and our surrounding and miss the joy that is in the will of God concerning us.
How can we find joy in the midst of chaos? We can pray to see and feel the joy- we can choose the joy and we can thank God for the joy- Joy is not always funny although laughter is a good thing.  Joy is in  small blessings that we often  fail to see. Red lights bring joy because without them how would someone else cross the street? Let us spend some time finding the joy and embracing the joy this year.  Take out some time to laugh and have some fun in little ways. Next time you stop at at a red light remember that it is followed by a green light. Enjoy the moment.

Joy Sprinkle--what a gift it is to find joy in the small things.

Joy Laugh-----Reverend Billy Graham tells of a time early in his ministry when he arrived in a small town to preach a sermon.
Wanting to mail a letter, he asked a young boy where the post office was.
When the boy had told him, Dr. Graham thanked him and said,
"If you'll come to the Baptist Church this evening, you can hear me telling everyone how to get to heaven." The boy replied, "I don't think I'll be there... You don't even know your way to the post office."

Joy Gem:  Leave everything a little better than you found it.

Simple Truth: Lord: we need Your help to learn to appreciate all that life
offers, knowing there is joy in both good and bad times.

passing by..........

Another blogger ( I think it is 2 g word but I could be wrong) found this perfect sign-

GRANDPA AND GRANDMA'S HOUSE: MEMORIES MADE HERE

Sometimes I look at this old house and just see odds and ends of clutter and forget the memories- so what, if there is a spare dolly or two or the chalk board has impossible to'' remove'' marks- and those extra shoes and mitts and paper planes that seem to find their way to stay-- they are part of the memories- I can live with that ---Meme has clutter memories and someday the memory makers will be too old to come make my memories--

I think the '' below'' is a repeat but I was reading an old book and I found this short poem by Anne Kreer:
----------
"You've said a thoughtless word,
Although you didn't mean it.
What can you do it to take it back,
How best can you redeem it?
Just say "I'm sorry, friend
That is the best way
To make amends.

Two words that say so much and sometimes take so long to say. Lets be careful with our words.

here is a little recipe for a happy friendship:
To keep your friendship brimming
With love in the loving cup'
If ever you are wrong, admit it,
And it ever you're right, shut up.

well, friends- time to go to bed - huggles to all

hugz and prayers,

HOMEMADE OATMEAL PACKETS

Homemade Oatmeal Packets

    Oatmeal Packets

If you enjoy  packets of oatmeal, you can make your own. This is far less expensive than buying ready made packets.

Measure 1/4 cup quick oats, approximately 15 raisins or other
dried fruit,  and/ or nuts, brown sugar, sugar or Splenda,
into a 12- to 16-ounce container. Seal until ready to
use. To fix, add 1/2  water and stir. microwave approx. 1 to 1/2 minute.

--test at lowest time as all microwaves have different wattage.          **** you can also store oatmeal in zip-lock bags- use with in 6 weeks.  1 teaspoon of sugar is generally enough to sweeten.  You may  also add 2 tablespoons of powered dry milk.  Remember to always use a 12 -16 -ounce container to cook.

Have a good weekend-   huggles me, Meme
