Dining Room Disaster!
Tackle It Tuesday is a great idea~ and I love it~
I think I've said this before~
but it is really a humbling experience to post some of these
BEFORE and AFTER pictures.
We do most of our homeschooling in the dining room~
yesterday I felt like I spent my entire day in here
(except for the many trips up and down the stairs to do the laundry).
So, I actually started my "tackle" yesterday~ but I didn't take pictures of the first 1/2 of the project.
I used to be a Designer for Home & Garden Party~
I quit in September when I was preparing for Ian's homecoming~
I brought alot of my "filing stuff" upstairs to incorporate into our "school center".
Also, I worked on the girls' portfolios and affidavits,
their course of studies, and some of our lesson plans for next year.
Today, I decided to work on the remainder of the dining room.
This room has become a real "junk collection center"~ that's for sure.
Here you will see the before and after pictures of our bookshelf
(the top 2 shelves are mostly school-related things):
 *as you can see~ the kids are great at taking books OFF the shelf~
but not so good at putting them back on!
The test is to see if they can keep it like this:
Here are the before and after shots of the bottom of my china cupboard
(which actually houses my Princess House Fantastia collection
from my before-kids days!)~
the bottom cupboards are real junk-collectors:
 *stationery, envelopes, scrapbook & craft things, pictures, you name it~ it's in there~
but no more:
Does anyone else have one of these~
a pile of junk that you have no idea where to put it?

This is just the after-effects of the cleaning-tornado that went through!
Now it looks like this:
WOW! I feel like I could actually have company over and they
might not feel like they're eating in the school!

I love your before pictures. They make me feel so much better! : ) I am not alone! I got my downstairs all nice and tidy a couple of weeks ago, and I always have the determination to keep it up. Alas, 5 other people (well, mostly 3 of them) do not have the same determination. I kept on them for about a week, then it began to slide, and slide, and slide. Of course, with my 2 little ones, it only takes an hour! Really-thanks for posting this, because sometimes I feel like I'm this lone terrible housekeeper. : o
