What Kids Need to Know......
.......about sin, salvation, baptism, and more......
A few weeks ago, I was honored to be the "featured blogger" here at HSB. As a result of that, I received a book called "Answers for New Christians" by Robin Khoury. (The title & first line of this entry are the book's by-line.) This book is a textbook, coloring book, and workbook all rolled into one. It is written for children ages 4-12, to help them to understand the message of salvation.
If you are the parent of children in this age-range, or if you perhaps teach Sunday School children, have grandchildren, or just have a heart for helping children that you know (maybe a neighbor child, etc.), then you should have this book. Of course, we Christians want to pass our faith on to our children, but sometimes it's so hard to speak in words that actually make sense to our children. Robin has done all that for us in the writing of this book.
I teach the Jr. High Sunday School class at my church~ it's the biggest class we have. My husband teaches the Sr. High class; and it's been amazing to us to see how different those two classes are. So many of the Sr. High kids have already started "dropping away" from church- they either don't want to come; or, if they do come, they don't want to get "too" involved. I think that, alot of the reason for this, is because they haven't been properly grounded in the Christian faith, and exactly what that should mean in their lives. Already, many of them are lost to us. I've read statistics on the numbers of college-aged students who have been raised in the church, but suddenly drop away because they don't understand why church (and God, Christianity, etc.) are so important and necessary. The statistics are staggering! This little book- though seemingly simple- could be just what our churches and families need to explain what has been missing in so many lives of senior high youth and young adults.
If this book sounds like something you would like to see for yourself, you may check it out at www.newchristians.net. I would recommend, if nothing more, picking up a copy for your own child(ren). This would be great to work through in your homeschool. It would also make a great Sunday School curriculum for K-6th grade. If we can give our children the gift of salvation, what better gift is there?
I would like to thank Robin for following her heart, and filling a need!
