The Little Girl~ part 2
*To see Part 1, click here.

Li Feng deliberates about what he will do after he has discovered the abandoned little girl. Here I am trying to create sympathy and resonance between Li Feng and the Chinese reader. This illustration acknowledges the cost of adoption and upcoming illustrations celebrate the joys of fatherhood.
China
In her book Wanting a Daughter, Needing a Son, China researcher Kay Ann Anderson writes that some Chinese families want daughters and see them as a source for emotional support. This is in sharp contrast to the Chinese people’s preference for sons. Their hearts are divided.
Further, she describes China's long tradition of adoption. It seems that Chinese parents would be open to adoption if given the opportunity. However, it is no small decision to bring a little girl into the family. Some Chinese families will face penalties if they adopt a daughter and exceed their quota of 1 or 2 children.
Advocacy
Mention The Little Girl and the gender imbalance in China as you talk with your coworkers over lunch or with your friends after church. Invite them to be an Advocate for The Little Girl.
Pray that
- God would empower costly love in the hearts of adoptive parents in China.
- the government would soften on the quota.
- the Minister in charge of the State Population and Family Planning Commission,
Zhang Weiqing,
would have wisdom.
