Boo Humbug
by Rene Gutteridge

Readers have come to love the eccentric characters from Skary, Indiana, in Rene Gutteridge’s popular Boo! series. Now, in Boo, Humbug! they’re back – and they’re stirring up a large amount of holiday havoc.
It’s Christmastime in Skary, and the town is planning an original production of A Christmas Carol with a horror spin. As showtime approaches, things go very awry for director Lois Stepaphanopolis. She panics when she discovers that her marketing director loathes Christmas and that the audience has been promised not Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, but the real Christmas story. Can the actors pull off the improv of all improvs and convince their community to embrace the true meaning of the Christmas season?
Boo, Humbug! offers readers a delightful glimpse into small town, community life with heartwarming humor and winsome characters. And in the end, the true meaning of Christmas shines out bright and clear, in a decidedly un-Skary way.

Rene Gutteridge is the author of 10 novels, including the Boo series, the Storm series, The Occupational Hazards series and My Life as a Doormat, a Women of Faith selection for 2006. She has been published over 30 times as a playwright, and holds a degree in screenwriting, graduating magna cum laude from Oklahoma State University. Rene is married to Sean, a musician, and they have two young children. They make their home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

What a fun book! Boo Humbug is a great little tale of life in Smalltown America (in this case~ Skary, Indiana). I could relate to it, because I live in a small town very similar to Skary, where everyone knows everyone's business and there's no such thing as privacy.
Even though Boo Humbug is actually the fourth in Rene's Boo series, I was able to dig right into it and easily got to know the characters without having previously read it's predecessors (Boo, Boo Who, and Boo Hiss). Now, though, I'd love to go back and read the other three, to learn more about Skary and the fun, eccentric people who live there.
Boo Humbug is a small, hardback book; the story is only 180 pages, so it's a quick (but fun) read. If you are a fan of the Mitford series (by Jan Karon), then I think you'll enjoy the Boo books as well.

Those words remind me of my days growing up. We lived out in the country quite near a small town. The small town that I grew up near is now a busy growing small city. Long gone are the lazy quiet days, replaced by the busy to and fro traffic and noise. I know small towns still exist out there and I long to live in one.
Thanks Heidi for the contest!

I tried to comment on here yesterday, but it wouldn't let me on at the time. : ( I guess I shouldn't enter a contest, since I just won one the last time. (And, yes, the book did arrive safe and sound---sorry I haven't let you know!) The book sounds fun, and my mom would really love it I think. She, especially, loved the Mitford books.
I wanted to tell you again what a blessing it was to us, especially Ashley, that you shared that promo code site. Not only did we find out Penney's had the comforter set on sale again, which we probably would have never checked had I not clicked on their link, and got a $15 savings on the set, but......she was also ordering a new desk for her room from a different company. We were placing the order, and it asked for any pro codes, etc. I thought, "Well, it won't hurt to look." I was so amazed that this company I'd never heard of before was on there, and she saved $25 on the desk!! That almost completely paid the shipping. She's been saving up Christmas and birthday money, and is buying all of this herself, so she was very glad. I would have never known there were places like this to get those online codes if you hadn't shared it. I wondered who the special people were who had codes to get discounts when they ordered! : ) Now we're special, too!! : ) THANKS!

Well, duh. I forgot I was supposed to say what came to my mind when I thought of small town. Since I originally tried to post yesterday....my mind doesn't handle info that long anymore!
When I think of small town I think of where my grandparents lived. One main street running through town, little shops and cute old houses lining the way. Everyone knows everyone.
