Where We Homeschool
This week's meme topic at The Heart of the Matter is to share about WHERE we do our homeschooling. Our dining room also serves as our homeschool room~ and, because it's overflowing with school stuff, I tend to shy away from inviting guests over for a meal (as much as I love to cook and entertain!)~ so I long for a little bit larger home and a schoolroom of our own! Those of you who have your own schoolroom, consider yourselves so very fortunate!
In our dining room, in addition to my locally-made dining room suite (table and china cabinet), we have 3 bookshelves (containing books and other homeschool supplies), 2 desks with computers (one for the family and one just for the kids), and currently, I have an extra table set up with my sewing machine on it (where I've been working on some small sewing projects and also a quilt for my son). Even our heater (which is an old radiator covered with a nice wood and tin cover) houses homeschool supplies! It's ridiculous, really!
Years ago, we tried desks. But, to us, that was way to "school at home" rather than home-school. Ashley was always much more comfortable right beside me at the dining room table, and Gracie has followed in that same trend. So, we do school on the table all day; then clear it off and eat supper there in the evenings!
I should also mention our "travelling schoolhouse"~ yes, if we can't get it all done at home, we do sometimes take school "on the road" in our van. Hey, whatever works, right?
I'm enjoying reading about where others do school! Fun topic!

We utilize our dining room table too and only clear it off completely when company's coming. :) We have a homeschool cabinet, bookshelves, and a computer desk in our living room.
Thanks for visiting my blog. It's nice to meet another "Asian-inspired" family. :)

It's funny how the school supplies can start to take over. I'm fine with it until a guest shows up. LOL.

I am so glad I found your blog!! I haven't "visited" before, but I love it!
Your post makes me nervous.... you say you have homeschooling supplies housed everywhere... I already feel I have that and my girls are only 3 and 2!!! Freecycle contributes a lot, it is an addiction almost really, ha!
Thanks for visiting my blog and I will be checking back soon!
Have a great weekend

I have a living room/ dining room combo where we do school. I would love to have an extra room. It could be my craft studio and school room. It would be sooo fun.

Our dining room is school central also, however we end up all over the house during the day. We have a table in our living room too which is where computer work gets done and I often sit on the bed with my 9 year to read and go over various things.
Can't wait to hear all about the Casting Crowns concert

Year to year we change. When I just had the boys, it was the dinning room table. One year I moved an old table into the living room against the wall and did that for awhile. Last couple of years it's been down in the family room as we are on computers more and more. We now have two set up down there both with internet! Huge impact on our school. We always had a line before! Sometimes they lounge on the floor, couches etc... but we do have desks down there too and I find we get done quicker if I make them stay at tables and/or desks.
