an anniversary to remember (or forget?!)
Do you ever have one of those days when things just aren't going as you planned? Well, yesterday was one of those days for us.......
It was our 16th anniversary, and despite the fact that we couldn't find anything exciting that we really wanted to do, my mom was going to keep the kids so we could go out for a nice meal at Texas Roadhouse (one of my faves) and do some shopping and get groceries. Well, whatever could go wrong yesterday DID!
First of all, we got some interesting mail (see previous post) that made our morning stressful.
Then, my mom got sick with this awful flu that everyone seems to be passing around this winter. I know she felt so bad about not being able to keep the kids, but there was no way she was up for it (nor would I have wanted the kids exposed to that sickness).
I told Gracie we had two option~ either postpone our plans, or take them with us for the day. She said "aww, Mom, that's so sad~ you never get to spend anytime alone with Dad". But, we did need groceries anyway, so we headed out all together for the afternoon.
We ate a late lunch/early supper at Perkins (they have this awesome salad in a bread bowl that is to die for!) Then, we ran to Wal-mart for a few items, and to the grocery store. We go (for a big grocery order) to a store about an hour from home, because they double $1 coupons and it's really worth the trip. Anyway, when we came out of the store, it had snowed alot and we had several mountains to cross coming home. The road conditions were beyond horrible, it was getting dark, and what should have been a 1 hour trip took 3 1/2 hours!
BUT, I'm counting my blessings~
- We made it home safe and sound (others didn't last night).
- We've made it through 16 years of marriage (others haven't)~ and thank goodness our wedding day was NOTHING like yesterday! Especially weather-wise!
- We have been blessed with 3 precious children who sat patiently through all the waiting last night.
- We have a cd player in our new (to us) van~ and we were able to sing praise songs while we sat in traffic.
- Despite the fact that our ice cream turned to mush on the way home, it's back to normal today~ and we can eat it! LOL
- We can take a "rain check" (or "snow check") and try this again sometime!
Thanks for all the anniversary wishes~ both here on my blog, at TGR, and on my page at The Homeschool Lounge~ you ladies are such a blessing!

Man, Heidi...you guys have really had a stinky time of it. I am so sorry that you are having to deal with that paperwork garbage again. I am praying that your representative will be able to get it all figured out in plenty of time. :( It sounds like a nightmare to have to deal with.

... Heidi, I'm SO sorry you're having such a horrible time with the USCIS! I can't imagine how you feel... just reading about it makes me sick at my stomach. As superficial as it may sound, God knows exactly how you feel... & will never ever leave you. He already has it all worked out.
It was so precious what Gracie said about your anniversary. Makes the "bad times" so much sweeter. :)
I've SO missed you... but I know you're loving your new job. How cool is that!!
Know I'm praying for the "adoption issues"... praying they'll be resolved SOON!!
Love you, girlie...

Doesn't it seem that when it rains it literally pours, or in this case snows. I love you're positive outlook on the whole thing. Shows your strength of faith and the character of Christ in you. I'm adding a prayer for your mom that she will be well soon. The bug this year seems to be taking no prisoners. Today is a new day with new opportunities. Blessings.

Happy 16th Anniversary to you and your hubby! My hubby and I will be married 16 years this July.
Today was "one of those days" for me too. First I drop all my coins at the self-checkout at Copps. I'm picking up coins as the self-checkout computer is "yelling" at me. Then we get home and my younger son "tosses his cookies" all over the van. Not fun.
I'm counting my blessings too. That's neat you could sing praise songs as you were stuck in the snow storm. The Lord is good, even when things don't go as planned. :)

When Ron and I were preparing for our marriage we read a book that talked about the different kinds of love. My favorite kind and the kind I couldn't do without is the you and me against the world kind of love.
So glad you have had someone on your side for the past 16 years ~
