a special post by CAMY TANG!

to me!
To help me celebrate my birthday, the first day of spring, and the release of her new book, my author friend, Camy Tang, has agreed to do a guest post on my blog today! Here is Camy's new book:

I shared the first chapter of Only Uni last week. If you missed it (and my review) you can read them here.
Now, I'm taking the day off!
Here's Camy to fill in for me:

Since today is Heidi’s birthday, I thought I’d blog about that. There’s a neat thing I got from my friend Danica where you go to Wikipedia and type in your birthday month and day (but not the year) in the search box. I did it for today, March 20th, and here’s a few things that I got:
Events
* 1815 - Napoleon enters Paris after escaping from Elba with a regular army of 140,000 and a volunteer force of around 200,000, beginning his "Hundred Days" rule. (I love the Napoleonic period! I would have written Regencies if I didn’t write Asian contemporary fiction—I know, they’re just so similar.)
* 1852 - Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin is published. (Heidi, did you know such a momentous event happened on your birthday? How cool!)
* 1990 - Ferdinand Marcos's widow, Imelda Marcos, goes on trial for bribery, embezzlement, and racketeering. (I shouldn’t make fun, but there’s a super funny song a Hawaiian comedian wrote for Imelda. It’s sung to “To All the Girls I’ve Loved Before,” and the song is called “To All the Shoes I’ve Worn Before.”)
* 1999 - Legoland California opens in Carlsbad, California. (I totally want to go here! I’ve never been!)
Births
* 43 BC - Ovid, Roman poet (d. 17) (I remember being forced to read Ovid. Didn’t like him.)
* 1828 - Henrik Ibsen, Norwegian writer (d. 1906) (I remember being forced to read Ibsen, too. Didn’t like him, either.)
* 1922 - Carl Reiner, American film director (I loved seeing him in Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen.)
* 1945 - Pat Riley, American basketball player and coach (Captain Caffeine would be proud, I actually know who Pat Riley is.)
* 1948 - John de Lancie, American actor (YEAH!!!! “Q” from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Voyager! I found out his actual son played Q’s son in an episode of Voyager. I thought so, because they looked exactly alike.)
* 1950 - William Hurt, American actor (I love him, he’s a great actor)
* 1957 - Spike Lee, American film director (Awesome! Heidi shares a birthday with greatness.)
* 1958 - Holly Hunter, American actress (I have to admit, the last movie I saw her in was The Piano. I haven’t seen her latest series, Saving Grace.)
* 1961 - Slim Jim Phantom, American musician (Stray Cats) (I like the Stray Cats. Captain Caffeine is impressed they only have a snare drum, a bass, and a guitar.)
* 1984 - Christy Carlson Romano, American actress (She’s the voice for Kim Possible!)
Holidays and observances
* Canberra Day (I had to look this up, too. This is an Australian holiday. Do my Aussie friends have the day off? That would be cool.)
* World Storytelling Day is a global celebration of the art of oral storytelling, celebrated every year on March 20. (How cool is that??? Everybody, go tell a story to somebody today.)
Camy Tang is the loud Asian chick who writes loud Asian chick lit. She used to be a biologist, but now she is a staff worker for her church youth group and leads a worship team for Sunday service. She also runs the Story Sensei fiction critique service. On her blog, she gives away Christian novels every Monday and Thursday, and she ponders frivolous things like dumb dogs (namely, hers), coffee-geek husbands (no resemblance to her own...), the writing journey, Asiana, and anything else that comes to mind. Visit her website at http://www.camytang.com/ for a huge website contest going on right now, giving away five boxes of books and 25 copies of her latest release, ONLY UNI.
Thanks, Camy!
You helped to make my birthday extra special!
