My Homeschool Agenda
I'm so behind this week! That blog template mix-up really threw me for a loop. Though I still haven't gotten to the bottom of the problem, I have seemed to manage to get my sidebar back into some semblence of order. It will do for now. I need to find something else to focus on, so.....

This week's Homeschool Memoirs topic is to share our homeschool agendas/plans for this coming school year. Last week, I shared our intended curriculum. So, this week, I'll just share a bit about what we hope to accomplish this year.
This is Ashley's first year as a high school student (9th grade), so I've really been focusing on learning more about high school credits and transcripts. I have gleaned information from Janice Campbell, having attended one of her seminars at our homeschool convention last year. I've been reading her blog and she had a great essay in The Schoolhouse Planner. Also, lucky person that I am, I have the inside scoop on the Fall issue of TOS. If you, too, have first time high school students, or if you've had a high schooler for a few years and you're still not quite sure what your responsibilities are, then you will LOVE the upcoming issue! It is filled with great resources for homeschooling parents just like you and me. I got a sneak peek and have been pleasantly surprised and very well-informed.
Another goal for this year is to become a bit more serious about foreign language. Ashley got a 1/4 credit in American Sign Language last year and she absolutely loved it. I'd like to find a place closer to home where she could continue with her sign language lessons. However, we have also decided to add Latin to our homeschool this year. So, just the other day, both girls started their Latin lessons, and I think we're really going to enjoy it. I took 2 years of N.T. Greek in high school and I think I can groove right into the Latin conjugations, etc.
Ashley will also be working toward a Child Development credit, as we have been blessed by being able to spend some quality time with our dear friends' baby girl. We are going to track hours and I'm going to have Ashley do some reading, researching, and writing on the topic to fulfill this requirement for credit.
And another thing we'd like to incorporate is finding a group to join - one in which we feel that we can fit in. Our local group has just never appealed to any of us, for various reasons. I've been looking into a group in a neighboring county, and am liking the prospect of some connections for all of us this school year.
So, those are just some of our goals and things we hope to stick with and accomplish. I'm sure there are many more, but these are the things that immediately come to mind.
*Thanks to all of you who took the time to visit my blog last week and leave a comment. I have been so swamped with trying to get our school year off the ground, running a household and keeping after a toddler, and keeping up with my expanding work load (I love my job!) that I just don't have a lot of extra time to visit blogs. But, I do so love meeting new people and making new friends!

Your last paragraph sounded like all of my recent posts. My poor blog is so lonely and abandoned. THL is all that I have time for anymore (computer time) but I LOVE IT!
Thank you for your prayers, we need them! :-)
I love your new Disney meme, that sounds like so much fun. I am already planning our next trip. lol

That you could figure me out by the first few lines. And to think I didn't even mention coffee LOL!
I am so sorry to hear about your blog troubles. That is frustrating and I am praying you are able to get everything back to normal soon.
I love your agenda for the year. I gotta say making a plan and sticking to it is getting easier as the kids get older-at least for us. Not sure if it is because there is a more defined focus or what but whatever it is working and that's what counts right;-)

Loved all your ideas for high school-though I still have a couple of years! It is too bad that we have to keep such careful track of hours to please the powers that be, but perhaps it will help me stay on track better.

Hope you like Latin, we started last year and are doing it again this year. We did HS for 7 years without a group but have really enjoyed the group we're in for the last 3 years, it has added a lot for us, hope you will find that too!
