comment contest - free alphabet magnets!
I was recently introduced to a new company called Eager Mind. Eager Mind is a "family company dedicated to producing high quality, educational toys for children." Their goal is to make learning more fun for preschoolers.
I have a preschooler and it is so much fun to watch him. He is constantly learning - just by interacting with his sisters and the world around him. It's amazing how quickly they learn and what all they can pick up at such a young age. When I saw the Phonics Letter Magnets from Eager Mind, I got excited - I can see Ian having so much fun with these!
These Phonics Letter Magnets are available in two versions - upper & lower case letters. Each set contains both long and short vowels. These sets sell for $8.95 each. (They are also available in bulk, so if you are purchasing for a preschool or daycare, you'll want to check that out!) These magnets are big enough for little hands to hold and manipulate easily.
I know you're going to want a set for your little one(s) too! Sally, from Eager Mind, has offered up 3 sets for me to give away here on my blog! If you would like a set of these fun magnets for your little one, please leave a comment telling me WHY you'd like to win. If you REALLY want to win and would like some extra entries in the contest, do one or more of the following (and be sure to let me know):
- post about this contest on your blog (with a link back to this post) - 1 extra entry
- if you have Facebook or Twitter, post about this contest there (with a link back to this post) - 1 extra entry
- make your WHY answer/comment creative and/or funny - 3 extra entries
I'll leave this contest open for ONE WEEK ONLY and will post the winners next Wednesday, the 8th. In the meantime, stop by Eager Mind for more pictures and ideas on how to use these magnets. Good luck!
AND THE WINNERS ARE...
I had 31 comments (thanks!) I made a list and numbered each comment, including extra entries for posting the contest on your blog, facebook, etc. or leaving a creative/funny comment. I used Randomizer.org to select the winners. The winning numbers were 44, 47, and 8. In other words, the winners are an Anonymous commenter (who left e-mail address), yabby, and OhioSarah. CONGRATULATIONS! I will be in touch with each of you for mailing information. Hope your little ones enjoy the new magnets!

Mar. 31, 2009 - I need these!

My kids won't leave the magnets on my fridge alone! My 3 yo is constantly rearranging them and trying to make art out of them. I have to put any special magnets at the very tippy top of the fridge and make everyone else PROMISE not to give them to her.
She needs some magnets of her own, and what would be better than magnets that teach her something?!?! Of course, then she'll fight with the 5 yo over who gets to use them next, but I can live with that. As long as she leaves my Beatrix Potter copper pan magnets alone. ;-)

My 5 year old is really into letters right now. She's pointing them out everywhere, and delighting in spelling out words like mom and dad. She loves alphabet magnets, but finds it frustrating that we only have a few. She'd love these :)
Thanks for the opportunity.

Mar. 31, 2009 - I'd like a chance?

These sound really awesome. We are the only house in our neighborhood and maybe even city that has it's front door decorated with magnets. Not by my choice, mind you, but my children apparently decided the magnets looks better on the front door (where everyone can see them) than on the fridge to hold up important papers and drawings. They love magnets - even my oldest at 7 loves magnets.
With my 4 1/2 year wanting to learn to read and my 2 year following quickly in their footsteps these would get a lot of use in our house.

Mar. 31, 2009 - 'Cause I'm the Crazy Mom, That's Why!!!
Posted by TheCrazyMom
Heidi,
Why do I want these?
'Cause I'm the Crazy Mom, that's why!
I need all the help I can get. My 5yo, Baber, is still learning his letters. He knows most of them, but since I'm always so busy, running around here trying to keep up with everything, and, of course, writing such fabulous reviews, and doing all the extra TOS stuff, and using all the crew stuff, and sending you links, and signing Mr. Linky, and writing articles for blog carnivals, and parties, well, the poor little guy can barely get my attention long enough for me to give him a reading lesson.
I'm doing the best I can, but if I could just keep him busy and quiet playing with these magnetic letters, well, I could still do everything I'm doing, and not have to feel so guilty!
Please, Heidi, help me assuage my guilt! Oh, please! Oh please! Oh, please!
Okay, funny or creative enough for ya?
~Crazy Mom

Mar. 31, 2009 - Magnets Giveaway
Posted by jesmicwilmom
We still use the magnets from my Fisher Price schoolhouse. Remember the ones that fit in the little tray and then you could fit them in the cards with the cut-out letters? Or you could use the cut-out letter cards to spell words on the chalkboard roof. These magnets look to be much more interesting! Count me in:)

These magnet sets look so wonderfully cute! My cousin has two boys - one is autistic, and one is developmentally delayed. They only make about $20,000 a year (!!!) and I know that this is something they could really use at home with their little boys. If I win the drawing, I will give it to my cousin so she can use it with them as she is trying to teach them at home. Thanks, Heidi!

Apr. 1, 2009 - Great giveaway!
Posted by Sara @ Embracing Destiny
I love the name "Eager Mind." We're raising some eager minds here at our house! =0) It's hard to keep up with them sometimes! My toddler would LOVE these magnets. I like that they're not too small to pose a choking hazard and are easily manipulated by little hands. My older DD (age 7) has some letter magnets, but they're too small for little sis (20 months) to use. When she does get ahold of one, she starts yelling out letter names: "Aaaa!" "Bbbb!" "Oooo!" Now, she's not saying the RIGHT letter name, but she totally gets that they're letters and they mean something. Like April, all of my "good" magnets and small magnets are pushed to the top of the fridge out of reach. Little Sis gets jealous when Big Sis can play with them and she can't. This set would solve a lot of problems around here! LOL Both girls could put them to good use. Fun AND educational. You can't beat that! Thanks for the chance to win.

My middle daughter will be starting kindergarten next year and is a little slower with learning than her sister, so I think these would be great for her to get her interested in learning the letters and sounds.

Apr. 2, 2009 - My 3 yr old loves letters
Posted by MomOfFour
My 3 yr old has been slow to get to all his milestones and is stubborn about saying new words unless its his idea.
But, he loves letters and when I wear a sweatshirt that has letters on them he loves to point and have me say the sound and tries to say them himself.
He loves magnets and these would be perfect fit for him to play with and also encourage his sounding out of sounds and words.

Apr. 2, 2009 - Phonics and speech therapy
Posted by yabby
I'd love to win these for my 4 year old. He's finally gotten started in speech therapy and is not only learning the letters still but is now learning how to make the sounds. It's so cute to see him making "monkey face" and OOOooo ing all over the place. The almost 2 year old is also OOOooo ing and would learn the letters much faster if his big brother was able to show them to him at the same time. Thank you for the review...even if I don't win we may have to get these magnets soon!
