ACLJ - petition consider signing

Posted in Politics
ACLJ emailed me

In a disconcerting power-play, school officials in one Maine public school district have cleared the way for middle school students - as young as 11 years old - to freely obtain a full range of prescription contraceptives even without their parents’ permission.

This is an outrage, and it cannot be ignored! I hope you will stand with me and the ACLJ right now through their nationwide PETITION TO PROTECT CHILDREN campaign and demand that this troubling policy be immediately revoked. The email below from the ACLJ has more information....

----------------

What is happening right now in Portland, Maine, should actually concern you.

The Portland School Committee has overwhelmingly voted to begin distributing prescription birth control pills and patches to students in Grades 6 through 8 at King Middle School.

Add your name immediately to our online Petition to Protect Children. We must send a powerful, united message to the school district in question: Change this troubling policy immediately and hand the responsibility of school-aged children back to their parents.

It is beyond disconcerting to think that students - as young as 11 years old - can freely obtain a full range of prescription contraceptives at school ... even without their parents’ permission.

This is an outrage that cannot be ignored! Your parental authority could very well be on the line. What happens at this school could have tremendous repercussions for you and your children and grandchildren.

The King Middle School Student Health Center - serving students who are just 11 to 15 years old - has offered what they call “comprehensive reproductive healthcare,” including providing contraceptive devices since it opened in 2000.

Yet even more troubling ... while the school district’s health program is distributing contraceptives to minors, the law in Maine prohibits anyone from engaging in sexual relationships with a person under the age of 14, regardless of the age of the other person involved.

In fact, a healthcare provider is required to report all known or suspected cases of sexual relations with minors age 13 and under to the Department of Health and Human Services.

However, the Portland School Committee has taken matters into their own hands, usurping parental responsibility and state law on this issue ... not to mention sending a mixed - AND DAMAGING - message to their students.

Add your name to our online PETITION TO PROTECT CHILDREN right now and demand that this disturbing reproductive health services policy be immediately revoked at King Middle School.

We are at work on this troubling situation. I have commissioned some of our senior lawyers to prepare a legal memorandum to the school concerning the policy. We are also sending a demand letter to school officials requesting that this damaging policy be changed.

It is outrageous that young, impressionable students can get immediate access to prescription medicines, including birth control, without parental consent.

If you are as concerned as I am by the bold power-play of the Portland School Committee, then speak out by adding your name to our online PETITION TO PROTECT CHILDREN immediately.

Let’s end this radical move right now before the headline reads: Middle school birth control plan coming to a school near YOU.

More about Italy and Politics

Posted in Politics
When I was in Italy one thing I noticed was all the people getting money for doing nothing. Especially in Rome. There were lots of beggars, gypsies, African sellers (selling fake goods), not to mention the tour guides. All of them were trying to get my money, that my husband works so darn hard for back in the states.

Yes we could afford for me to spend the $1,500 to go to Italy (a bargin if you want to know the truth), because we sold property behind our house awhile back. Otherwise, I wouldn't have gotten to go. What we did was when we got money from a car accident I was in we made it grow, we invested in property and didn't waste it on penny annie things.

So, why is the thought process so different in Rome especially, but I would say Italy in general is lacsidasical (sp) about work ethic all together. I see their social problems steming directly from the type of government they have.

In Italy there are lots of social programs, food, shelter, medicine is all free. So why would someone want to work, let alone work hard to get it? This is why my friend saw a lady who had been begging go around the corner take off her rags and get into her Mercedes!

There is an attitude of "you owe me", that is abhorant to me to be honest. There is actually a prevelant joke "Domani Domani" (translated tomorrow tomorrow), meaning that is what they say when asked when something will be done, or when they will work on it. They live in a very beautiful place, but they don't seem to want to keep it up. Yes they want it to be kept up, but no one seems to want to do it.

I don't know why some liberal politicians don't notice this, or care. I do not want to see laziness and slothfulness rewarded any more than it already is. Reward the hardworking entrepenures and things will get done better and faster, because industry will demand it. But reward the sloth and everyone will then do the minimum they have to do to get what they want.

Want a Gucci? and Armani?, Don't WORK! Go to the Roman forum.. you young man, hunch over (don't forget a stick for a cane), dress in rags, and cover yourself (remember the gloves), and sit and put our your tin, act pitiful and in about an hour you can go out and have the finest wine and the best cheese in the world, dressed in your new Armani suit.

If you want tourist info, the book below is excellent for that, it is huge over 500 pages, and is more an encyclopedia of each location, rather than just a visitors guide.
