Apr. 6, 2007 - The Casting of Crowns . . .

In a brief study on the crowns we as believers receive, I have been wonderfully blessed to know that God's Word is perfect.  I believe that God's Word is quite specific about who casts their crowns before Him.  Just a look at the references concerning this subject . . .

1Th 2:19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? {rejoicing: or, glorying?}

2Ti 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Jas 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

1Pe 5:4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

Re 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

Re 4:4 And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.

Re 4:10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying . . .

The only reference to someone casting their crowns to the Lord is for the twenty four elders during the tribulation.  These are the literal crowns of authority they had held over areas of earthly ministry.
It is my conclusion that when the Bible referes to crowns for believers (rejoicing, righteousness, life, glory, etc ...) is an application from the Lord and part of our new life in Christ. I see nowhere that this is ever cast to the Lord but rather that we maintain these precious gifts as a token of His great love.
Rest assured the Word of God is perfect.  We are to take it literally.

Apr. 6, 2007 - Heppy Resurrection!

When believers approach this wonderful time of year we should be ever cautious concerning the activities we involve ourselves with and especially for our children. While the world around us celebrates"Easter" with chocolate bunnies and colored eggs and candy, in my opinion believers are to distance themselves from any and all of that. The reason why is simply this - "Easter" is pagan but the Resurrection is Christ. Easter comes from the pagan worship of the goddess of fertility. She is known by many names - Diana, Artemis, Astarte, Ashtarte, Estarte, Aphrodite and others. Now most believers see nothing wrong with the activities of egg hunts and using the bunny in their celebration of the Resurrection. It must be a personal decision for mom and dad to investigate the background of any such usage that might be tied with the Christian faith. Here is why I will caution against having your children participate in "Easter" activities: It sends a mixed signal to the child. When you are training your children up in the admonition of the Lord why use the same symbols the pagan world is using? It sends the wrong testimony to the community around you. They all celebrate Easter too so they will believe they are believers just like you. In fact that may not be true. A great many people who go to churches that do not preach salvation by faith alone in Christ celebrate Easter. All too many people today have no real discernment as to the history behind the activities that have become common place in their lives. People often tell me, my parents did this so I want to do it with my children. You know what, my parents did this in my family as well. We were taught to believe in the Easter Bunny, Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy, and a host of false doctrine. What it teaches children is that a Christian can mix the pagan culture in with their Christian culture with no consequences. Even though the bunny and eggs "can" represent Spring and new life, the rest of the world around you has attached another meaning to these symbols. Your children are still in the process of becoming the believers God means for them to be. All they see is that Christians celebrate "Easter" and so does the world, so we're all OK. That's how they process it. As believers in Christ, I believe that we are to try to eliminate the use of this word - Easter - in our referring to the greatest moment in history. Call it what it is - Resurrection Sunday!! Make your faith all about the Resurrection because IT IS!

1Corinthians 15:14 And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.
Now even if you have celebrated "Easter" with the bunnies and eggs for many years, you can make a change right now. You can make a decision to divest your observance of the Resurrection from all of those things that might lead a child into a place where they do not know the difference between "Easter" and the Resurrection.
I do pray that believers today will reconsider the activites they involve themselves in this Resurrection Sunday weekend.
Happy Resurrection Celebration!!

Dec. 29, 2006 - A Christian celebration of Christ's Birth . . .

As a dad to two wonderful kids and husband to a great wife, I really enjoy Christmas.
I also happen to be a pastor of a church so there is added blessing as well as responsibility to teach the truth of God's Holy Word.
Each of us who are believers in Christ, have the responsibility to remember His birth and not get caught up in the hype and commersialism of "Krismess".
Maybe you do not know what I am saying here.  Many people who call themselves believers get themselves in a real pickle when they teach their children to believe in Kris Kringle; hence - Krismess: the mess that has occured because Christ has been all but removed from the holiday.  This figure may be better known to most of you as Santa Claus.
Beware my friends, this is dangerous teaching.  Note that the man called Nicholas of the fourth century was a very kind man indeed but we ought never to teach our children anything less that the truth.  When we teach our young people to believe in ANY mythical being, we take away from God's truth.  The fable that this Satan Claus - oops - I mean Santa (Did you realize the letters were the same for Santa and Satan.  Did you also know that one of Satan's nick names is old Nick?  Satan-nick.  Ouch.)
Anyway, the fable of Santa being able to do all that we teach our young people takes away from the Lord Himself.
Only God can possibly know if and when we are good or bad, or if and when we sleep.
Only God can be everywhere in one night.  Only the Lord can bestow gifts to His people.
Not this figment of the imagination people call Santa.
Oh sure, some of you will write me and bash me for this.  It's quite alright.
My main concern is to serve the Lord to the best of my earthly ability.
That means I must share His truth.
So until next time.
