• Apr. 11, 2008 - Eve's temptation

When Eve was in the garden and the serpent had tempted her saying, "...Ye shall not surely die:  For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil."

"And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat."  Genesis 3:4-6

This could be any woman.  Who wouldn't be tempted and partake of something that looked good to us.  Who wouldn't want wisdom, the ability to know right from wrong in all situations.  Boy wouldn't are kids listen to us then.  We could just say, "Listen, I am as a god and know good and evil."  But where would that leave our relationship with God.  We wouldn't need Him, if we already knew it all.  In the end it would be a deal that would leave us empty & longing.  And God knew all this because He knows all things!  Why do we want what wouldn't be good for us.  I don't fault Eve, I may have done the same thing, made a decision based on my wants.

I would love to know it all...when(date & time) will we see our church grow?  what is around the corner for my family?  will my family be saved?  Questions only God knows...and it's best that way.  If I knew the answers I wouldn't call out to Him.  I wouldn't  lean on Him, I would lean on my own understanding.

I need to be so careful not to place too much importance on what looks pleasing to my eyes.  What looks good to me may not be what's best for me.  How I see things sometimes is not how God sees them.

So, today I will close my natural eyes and pray... God open my spiritual eyes to see what you want me to see.  Nothing more, nothing less.  I desire to know You, the One who knows it all.  I lean on You today and will prayerfully make each decision.

• Apr. 4, 2008 - Shark Girl!

Today my kids and I went to Logitech Ice Rink.  This is where the San Jose Sharks practice.  During the week they have lessons and open skate sessions here.  Some of our homeschooling friends have been telling us about it for awhile and so we thought we would try it out, especially since they offer a homeschool discount on the 1st Friday of every month.  Yea for us!

Madeline took right to it.  Held onto the side for the 1st couple times around and then let go and was moving right along.  Pretty good for her 1st time ever on the ice.  She loved all the compliments she got from older girls who were still holding onto the edge.

Joshua was a different story.  He was anxious to get his skates on, but once he went out onto the ice he started crying.  I was moved to action and went and put some skates on myself.  I took him out with me only to get a few steps from the entrance and he began to cry again.  He did not want any part of ice skating.

So there I am, skates on, ready to go.  I go over to Madeline to see if she needs help and of course by that time she wants no help from me.  I'm having flash backs to being a teenager all over again and zooming on the ice, stopping quickly to spread ice all over your friends.  Except now all I can think about is if one of those teenagers cuts me off and I fall and break something I am really going to go off on them!  My goodness what would happen if I couldn't move.  Who would do the laundry?  Who would do the cooking? (can you say "hello" McDonalds)  Who would do the cleaning?  So, I quickly made my way to the exit and took off my skates and safely sat down on my padded behind!  Awwww....no injuries, Thank you Jesus!

Madeline wants to do this again, but Josh says "No thank you."

Look Mom, No hands!

• Apr. 1, 2008 - Shhh...don't tell part 2

Sorry to report that the Sweet Potato pancakes did not go over well.  My kids are used to light and fluffy pancakes and the Sweet Potatoes change the consistency to moist and dense.  Oh well I tried.

• Mar. 28, 2008 - Women of the Bible

I just came across this blog, Rachel Olsen.  She is doing an online Bible study of the women of the Bible.  She started March 8th, but I'm just starting now and it's not that hard to go back in the archives and pick up.  Thought I would share the info in case any of you were looking for a study like this.

• Mar. 25, 2008 - Easter

I know I'm a few days late, but my computer was acting up.  Anyway, I hope everyone had a blessed Easter.  We woke before the break of dawn to make it to church, can you sense my sarcasm?  We had church @ 10am instead of 1pm, so it was a challenge to get everyone fed, dressed, and out the door, but we did it!  Enjoyed the service and came home to hunt eggs.  Didn't get any pictures of the egg hunt, I was too busy enjoying the moment.  Here are the pictures I did get:

Joshua and Madeline on Easter.
Madeline and Josh dying Easter eggs.

Look at what a great job they did!  Lots of pink!
That's ok you don't taste the pink when they
end up in egg salad!

• Mar. 21, 2008 - Good Friday

Good Friday, the Friday before Easter.  Honestly I've never given this day much thought.  I was usually busy with Easter outfits, dying eggs, preparing baskets, etc.  Wednesday evening my Pastor preached an incredible message about Good Friday.  I am forever changed by this message.  This is the day our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ was beaten and hung on a cross to die for our sins.  Bro.Hurst went into great detail on how Jesus was beaten.  He took off his belt and demonstrated getting winded himself after only 3 times of hitting the altar with his belt.  I sat motionless in my chair as did most people.  You could almost hear a pin drop in the sanctuary.  For me, I was moved with compassion and I was ashamed to have gone through life never giving this day any importance.  This is what my Jesus did for me.  He died for my sins.  How can I ever question His love for me.  How can I ever think my life is too hard.   At the end of the message Bro.Hurst led us into a time of prayer.  I wept and prayed, but it wasn't enough for me.  I carried it home with me and haven't been able to shake it.   I will never forget this message and I plan to remember this day every year.  I hope this feeling of thankfulness will visit me every Good Friday and I will once again be moved to tears at His love for me.

Tonight my family will begin a new tradition.  We are setting aside family time to read the Easter story in the Bible and to reflect on just what He did that day.  This is no ordinary day

I am thankful that He rose again.  I am thankful it doesn't end there.  It is necessary to recognize and mourn the events of Good Friday, but I don't have to stay sad for long because I know He lives!

Blessings ~ Mindy
