Snow?

Yep, it snowed today.   A blinding white-out....that lasted all of 5 minutes.   And of course, didn't stick.  But it really was snow.   And no, I'm not in Alaska, this is still Illinois.   Sunday was almost 80 degrees and now this.....I'm not quite acclimated!

Here's the extent of my knitting for the past week:  finished up 2 dishcloths, both to be given away tonight to the birthday ladies.   Nothing done on the scarf, no little gnomes started.   It was just one of those weeks - the boys had lots of activities, the house needed a good cleaning, we had guests over, and Mt. Laundry needed to be climbed.  (altho I really only got into the foothills)

Non-junk and non-bill mail is always fun....yesterday I got these 2 books in the mail from Amazon.   I decided I've gotten that knitting book out from the library enough to justify my own purchase and as for the Amy Butler book - I love it!   I want to make almost every project in it.   Most of it looks somewhat simple (and believe me, when it comes to sewing, I need simple) but there's just a little something about each design that makes it rise above ho-hum.   There's at least one thing in there that I NEED to make for a Christmas gift, which was how I justified the purchase.

And now for some gratuitous cuteness, here's our newest houseguest.    This little kitten was one of a litter of three, that the barncat mom decided to have under some bushes, instead of in the barn.   She seemed to do a good job with them but apparently when the weather got cooler, she decided to hang  out in the barn  and left them out in the cold.  (literally)   Anyway, the boys came up to the house with this little one, reporting that the other two were dead.   Apologies to cat lovers, but this is a farm and we don't coddle our cats.   They get all the food and fresh water they want, and they get a barn full of straw to sleep in., and that's about it.    But when faced with a very cold, half-dead kitten, we can't just do nothing.     After some warm fluids and  time on a hot-water bottle, she perked right up and has been doing fine ever since.   We figure she's about 5-6 wks old at this point.   She's an unusual color and we're struggling to find the perfect name for her.   So for now, here's the as-yet-unnamed kitten and our oh-so-patient springer spaniel, Abe.

Adorable kitten! She's the same color as the cat my uncle used to have named Peaches.
