Goat Babies!
I've been dying to have some goat baby pictures to post and Nellie finally cooperated early this morning! She's got 2 nice strong kids, a doeling (girl) and a bucking (boy). So cute!!
She had no trouble having them and everything seems to be fine. They were both up and nursing (with a little guidance) shortly after birth- which always amazes me! That reddish thing hanging down is the umbilical cord, which has been dipped in iodine and will soon dry up and fall off.
There is a reddish glow to the pics because of the heat lamp.
Poor Nellie, she's trying to sit down without smooshing her udder! Yikes. It's really cute to watch the kids nurse - they wag their tails frantically the whole time. We've got 2 more pregnant goats and 3 pregnant sheep - I hope every birth is as smooth as this one.

Wow, how neat and adorable too! I hope all the rest of the pregnant animals also have smooth births as well! What wonderful perks of farm life-- poor Nellie with her udder though, ouch!

Hey! Are those meat goats for fair? Look like Boer or crossed with Boer! They look so big! We have the nigerian dwarf dairy and the kids weigh about 2 -3 pounds at birth! I had toggenburgs growing up- they had 5 -7 lb kids. Anyhow, and sheep! I think baby lambs are one of the cutest things in God's creation! Our old ewe is past lambing age...we keep her for weed control.
I really logged on to thank you for the books- they came today! Yea! So now I am going to log off and curl up on the couch next to my sleeping hound and READ! Thank you!

So. Much. Cuteness!!!!!
I can not get over how adorable the new goat babies are! They look just like big goats, only in mini (as opposed to looking like hairless, squirmy alien things - like so many newborns (of various species!) do)
I've always told Bubba that I want a goat one day - this just cements it!

Oh my gosh - these babies (and mama too) are adorable. I hope one day to have some animal babies (other than dogs) of my own...I'm thinking a farm with goats, sheep, and rabbits - oh and at least one horse.
Love - Raesha
