Some favorites

I'm joining in with Randi's  "Let's Get Real Mondays" - last week I posted a real scary picture of my husband's corner in the laundry room.     This week's theme is favorites.....hmmmmm.   Should I talk about my favorite food.....curriculum....yarn.....cookie jar....decisions, decisions!   Finally I decided I would show some of my favorite pieces of jewelry - they all have a common theme.   I am not really big into expensive jewelry -  I like to have a few intereting pieces, but not necessarily anything valuable.  ( For instance, my very favorite necklace is a silver Brighton heart on a leather cord.)   Anway, these are a few of my very favorite pieces, and while not particularly valuable in a monetary sense, they are very valuable to me, because they are all pieces that used to belong to someone in either my or my husband's family.    Sorry for the lousy picture - it's overcast here and I have no idea how to best photograph jewelry.  Everyting is shinier and prettier than it looks here.
Clockwise, from top left:   A ring that belong to my grandmother that passed away in February- it's silver and some kind of grey-ish stone.  (I have no idea when or where she got it)
The silver and turquoise bracelet next to it belonged to my husband's grandmother.   It was a gift to her, years ago, from a sister who'd moved to Arizona.     She only wears gold and so does her daughter (my mil) but I almost always wear silver so they gave it to me.   I love it!!
I like to wear it with the turqoise and silver ring below it, which belonged to my other grandmother.  That was a gift to her (years ago)  from her sister, who'd moved to Texas.
The gold earrings my mom had made for me out of my dad's grandmother's wedding band.    Their initials and the year - 1916  are engraved on the inside.   I am totally afraid to wear these for fear I will lose one of them.
The last ring is possibly the oldest - it belonged to  one of my husband's grandmothers , and before that it was her mothers, who lived from 1880-1939.  I have no idea what the metal is, it doesn't seem exactly like 14K gold, but it doesn't tarnish.   I think the stone is a garnet and there are also some tiny pearls.
So, there you have several of my favorite pieces of jewelry,  although the only ones I wear frequently are the silver and turqoise ones.     I like that I have at least one piece from all four of our grandmothers.   I like to wear the piece that belong to each one on her birthday - although I don't know if I'll ever be brave enough to wear the earrings!

How fun to have a piece from each grandmother! And I agree on the earrings -- I'm sure I'd never be able to wear them. How cool to have them engraved. Thanks for sharing.

I love the earrings made from the wedding band. Very special.
Great idea :) but it's certainly a shame that you are afraid to wear them!

it is so lovely to have something that you love and enjoy fromeach of the grandmothers....

I also love the earrings made from the wedding band - I've never seen/heard of such a thing, and I think it's brilliant...

It's very special for you to have a piece of jewelry from each grandmother. My mom just gave me a necklace that belonged to her mother, who died in January. I'll have it forever. XO

What a beautiful post!

I so enjoyed reading about your jewelry and it brought back memories. My late, great mil lived in AZ for the last part of her life and loved silver and turquoise.

BTW, I'm loving all your knitting posts. I just learned to knit in December and I'm working on a pair of felted slippers right now. Once I'm finished with those, my knitting guru-friend assures me I'll be able to knit socks (and that makes me very excited).
