Once upon a time......
First off, if you haven't checked out the chicken contest yet, go here! And don't worry if someone has already picked the number you want, if there's more than one correct (or really close) guess, I'll draw a name from among them. You still have today and tomorrow (fri) if you haven't made your guess yet.
Once upon a time, this started out as a knitblog......so where is all the knitting??? Here, finally, a picture of the cotton- ease baby blanket, still in progress. Miles of garter stitch..........
Well, not really miles......it's just starting to feel that way. It's only about 25 inches on a side, and I'd really like it to be at least 30 inches.
When I first planned this blanket, I was going to use terra-cotta as one of the colors, but then I found out the baby is a girl and it sounds like the new mom-to-be is REALLY into the pink thing, so I swapped out the terra-cotta and replaced it with "berry." I'm not sure where to go from here. I wish I hadn't done the first color in the cream colorway. I can't decide if I should do a round of the cream now and then another of berry and then do the border, or....? I'm not sure what I want for a border, either. I really like this one.
I've decided I'm not really slow knitting this, it's just there's so many distractions around here. Like this, which is what middle son happened to see when he glanced out the window after lunch:
Jailbreak! Someone (who shall be nameless) left the pasture gate open and all the sheep escaped. Luckily, sheep aren't very adventurous so they just congregated around a nearby tree. (Hmmm, we all got out, now what??) The goats were a little more enterprising and made their way into the barn so they could get at the loose hay.
Max must think he's a border collie, because he herded them all back into the pasture. It was quite a sight!

Thankfully the escapees were discovered before the goats could totally gorge themselves on hay. An animal can make itself seriously ill by over-eating, even to they point where they die. Lizzie appreciates this little treat but would rather be back in the barn with all that nice hay.

It's another beautiful day, I should head out to the porch and work on that baby blanket!

I like the center square in cream, and you can always do the whole border in cream to tie it in :-) It's just gorgeous, I never ever tire of this blankie!! You are not slow at all, and P.S. your's is bigger than mine was!

Will ya quit reminding people about the chicken contest??? It's just more competition for the rest of us! ;-) Love the baby blanket -- I'll bet it's yummy soft. And I laughed and the sheep picture. Make you think there's something behind the tree that we can't see that they're all interested. You'd better be careful posting those goat pictures -- the winner will be demanding a goat with the basket! ;-)

Log Cabin Border
Posted by Danielle
I did post how I did the border, but not on my blog. I posted it on the masondixonkal. Here I went and copied what I posted there:
Here's how I did the edging:First, count how many sts you have on your needles. Divide that number by how big you want your triangle to be. Example: 135 -:- 15 = 9 okay, 135= number of sts. 15= how many sts you'll be knitting 9= how many triangle points will be on that side of the blanket.
First pick up whole row with new color like normal, turn.
Row 1: K 15
Row 2: turn, slip 1 as if to K, pass slipped st over,K to the last 2 sts. K 2 tog.
Row 3: turn, Knit
Row 4: Repeat row 2
Okay, now you'll repeat these 2 rows until 3 sts remain on your needle. Slip 1 st as if to K, pass slipped st over, K 2 tog. Leaving the last st on the needle, turn and pick up the sts along the edge of the triangle as if to knit *but* bind off each stitch right after you pick it up. When you reach the exsisting edge of afghan once again, slip 1 st as if to knit, pass slipped st over and start at row one again proceeding down that side of the blanket. note: if you have an even number of sts for your triangle it's still the same, you'll just end up with 2 sts left at the end instead of 3. So just K 2 tog.
Hope it makes sense since I'm not really a pattern writer, if you have problems just ask me via my blog and I'll try to help or you can email me joenorris488@comcast.net

I think a round of cream would be nice and would help tie in the center square, or you could wait and do a tiny border in cream (just 2 garter ridges, it would maybe look like a quilt binding?) It's so pretty! Love that pink cotton ease!

The baby blanket is gorgeous!!!!!! I would love to do one someday. YOu are lucky that your sheep/goats did not stray too far. I hate trying to round up loose llamas!! They get more adventuresome with each escape.

The blanket is gorgeous! Add a round of cream or use it for the border. Either way would look good.
