Max & Abe's (not so) Excellent Adventure
So, as if we don't have enough critter commotion around here, the other day Max and Abe teamed up to confront a little beastie who was hanging around the back deck. Luckily, oldest boy heard their barking frenzy and checked it out , as they had this guy cornered and he was not happy.
He doesn't look very menacing in that picture, but with 2 dogs barking at him, he was hissing and had every sharp tooth on display, not to mention he's quite a bit bigger than Max - but you can't tell that to a weiner dog.
Max was not the least bit happy about being pulled away from Mr. Possum, and even though it's several days later, he is still looking for that possum every time he goes outside. It's strange to have a possum around the house, normally they invade the barn where they can gorge themselves on cat food.
This is totally random but it just kills me - we received some Disney pictures in the mail the other day, in a cardboard envelope clearly marked in large print: Vacation photos, DO NOT BEND. Here's how they looked when they arrived:

Ummmm, thanks post office! Jeez!
I enjoyed reading people's opinions on the Jaywalker socks. I put them aside to work on some socks for farmer husband out of a thicker, sport weight wool that is not nearly so soft, but they're going much faster! One thing I've been noticing on blogs and Ravelry are all the gorgeous stranded mittens being knitted. I absolutely love this Kate Gilbert pattern, but I've never made anything with stranded colorwork, so I thought maybe I'd start out by trying to make one of these hats. The pattern says its a good intro to color stranded knitting - wish me luck!

Wow! I can't believe the oppossum is larger than a weiner dog... I wonder if my memory is skewed.
The hate looks cool. Should be a quick knit and then off to the mittens for you.

Go Max! Our Sumo is still out hunting coyotes after he chased one a few weeks back! Max will probably be looking for possums for quite some time to come!! Bummer about the vacation photos....

I haven't done much stranded knitting either. Starting with a hat is my plan too. I have yarn and pattern--just need to get going. Maybe you'll be the inspiration I need. Good luck!

I remember possums in the backyard when I was a kid. They really freaked me out because they remind me of gigantic rats. I just love that your dog is so small, yet so brave. How cute!

Poor old possum, I'm glad you were able to rescue him (or her).
That's a terrible thing to do to your pictures. I cannot understand how they would do that when it clearly states not to bend.

Poor Max -- he's looking so intent on having that possum for a little snack LOL! Good luck on the hat. Every time someone mentions ravelry, I remember that I got my invitation but the link didn't work and I keep forgetting to follow up. I suppose if I knew what I was missing I'd get on that! Now I must go and read the comments you got on those socks 'cause I really want to make them!

Your story about Max made me laugh. I know how upset our "Rhett", gets. He's a black mini. They sure have attitudes and not enough brains to know they are that small...

Oh boy, sounds like you've had your hands more full than ever with critters conundrums lately lol :) I'm just glad that Max didn't get into a tussle with that guy since he's bigger and all. I'm sure it'll be a little while still before he quits looking out for his new enemy.
Btw, I'd admired the Bird in Hand mitten pattern Kate Gilbert did too. Really pretty mittens, and the plus with them is that they are only knit with two colors so you won't be changing colors every few rows or so. I think that starting out with a hat sounds like a great idea since you've made lots of them and are comfy with hat patterns in general. I'd venture a guess that you'll be a great stranded knitter because you're a continental knitter, and knitting with two hands using two strands of yarn at a time seems to come easier to continental knitters instead of "throwers" like me lol!
