Oct. 24, 2007 - This week's character quotes for penmanship copywork
If you will think about what you ought to do for other people, your character will take care of itself. Character s a byproduct, and any man who devotes himself to its cultivation in his own case will become a selfish pig.

Did ever a man try heroism, magnanimity, truth, sincerity, and find that there was no advantage in them- that it was a vain endeavor?
~~~Henry David Thoreau
Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.
Okay #1 suggestion on the reading aloud books..Gary Paulsen. Hachet? Voyage of the Frog? Dogsong? These are all wonderful books about boys becoming men, having to rely on ones own fortitude to survive. My boys LOVE these stories! Thanks for the advice, I will look up those books and give them a try. It was scary to put Kendra in school, but it makes it so much easier for the social workers, judges, ect. The birth mother keeps squacking about how I am abusing them. In school, the social worker just calls the teacher and says NO of course not. Then the birth mother looks like a moron, who is just causing trouble. They used to have a worker come to the house, look around, examine the kids. It was a nightmare and the girls were always upset, because seeing a worker means you have to leave and go to a new family. It was horrible. We wanted that sense of permanancy for them. This way Kendra's day is not even disturbed. It has been so peaceful. Thanks for checkin in!
