O, how much more doth beauty beauteous seem By that sweet ornament which truth doth give! The rose looks fair, but fairer we it deem For that sweet odour which doth in it live. The canker-blooms have full as deep a dye As the perfumed tincture of the roses, Hang on such thorns and play as wantonly When summer's breath their masked buds discloses: But, for their virtue only is their show, They live unwoo'd and unrespected fade, Die to themselves. Sweet roses do not so; Of their sweet deaths are sweetest odours made: And so of you, beauteous and lovely youth, When that shall fade, my verse distills your truth.
~Shakespeare

Civil War Reenactment

Posted in About Rose

  CivilWar2007007.jpg picture by Bekbin

For the past 5 or 6 years my family has attended a civil war reenactment in our state (Oregon), and this year Brielle, My Cousin Maegan, our mothers, and I decided to make civil war style gowns to wear.

I'm afraid I don't have any pictures of our Mom's lovely outfits but I have a few of ours. Also, If you are interested in having a Civil War Ball gown please contact Brielle. She is a bit busy at the moment ,but I'm sure she would love to create one for you. Oh, and for the record (just so no one gets mixed up) I made my dress. If you haven't already guessed, I'm the blonde girl in the straw bonnet, and cream dress with blue roses.

The Reenactment was very fun, as usual. All though this time was a little more...eventful.

Right after we arrived I accidently got something stuck in my eye, we tried everything and after several minutes we found the paramedics on staff (they have to have these due to the battles), Anyways, they said I should keep a cold compress on it for an hour or so. Thankfully after awhile I forgot about it, and I was healed!

The Battle was very good, there was some annoying "refugees" that it could have done without ,but otherwise very well done.

Later, that afternoon We were part of an...interesting fashion show. It is always fun to see dresses other women have made, and get ideas. We also walked through the respective camps (North and South), and we looked at the booths. I bought a lovely blue cameo, a lace fan, and a hat pin to hold my bonnet in place.

Well, We had a lovely time ,and we met some unique people (right ,Brielle?). I just love reenactments.

                                                   Love to hear from you,

Oh, how I would love to do something like that! In Feburary, we go to an all homeschoolers Civil War Ball. Actually, I went for the first time this past year, in a borrowed dress. This year I am making my own. Unfortunately, I keep ripping the lining out on accident! How embarrassing!

I should get a hold of your cousin and ask her to make me a few. I love dresses! So how are you? I wish my town had something like that, but they don't!

Hello Rose,
So....what are you up to? I haven't heard from you in a long long long long time...... :( ....lol....

Your mom told me a little bit about your class....,but what did you think?

Well...not much new with me...I worked outside today...well I was going to just go and paint the duck coop door, but after all I got it all sanded and painted I set it up to dry and all the paint started to peel off...(Thanks to the person that painted it before me) So we got to scrap all the paint and the old paint off with razor blades...needless to say the door looks really good now. :)

I'm still working on me new post....seems like it's taking forever...Tonight we have to go the an open house for Amy's graduation...oh, dear....talking to a bunch of people I don't know! Save me....no, I'll be fine.....um....maybe.

So are you working on any new posts yet?
Still haven't heard from Mr. and Mrs. Darcy...so I guess I won't be making those...,but the money order for Will's costume should be here on monday. So that will be nice...I'm working on the pirate bodice right now...

Oh, we are meeting with Lisa tommrow...so more play stuff....

Talk to you later..
Love you,
Brielle

Dear Rose,

That is a very pretty dress, I really like the fabric. :)

What patten did you use to make your dress?

My sister Rebekah and I are hoping to make Civil War dresses very soon. We have bought a patten, but we do not yet have the fabric.

Did you make your gloves or did you buy them, they are very cute.

I hope you have a lovely evening,

In Christ, Bethany

P.S. Your bonnet is very cute. :)

Good idea about the red version of shampoo.... hmm... If the red wasn't washing out, I'd buy some little bottles of it!

....your dress(es) are beautiful! (AND the bonnet!) It looks lovely on you! Oh, I didn't know you were that tall! You look like a grown woman and, if I may say so, very mature! I loved the picture of you with your hand on your bonnet and the dress was slightly blowing in the wind! Very painting-like!
