O, how much more doth beauty beauteous seem By that sweet ornament which truth doth give! The rose looks fair, but fairer we it deem For that sweet odour which doth in it live. The canker-blooms have full as deep a dye As the perfumed tincture of the roses, Hang on such thorns and play as wantonly When summer's breath their masked buds discloses: But, for their virtue only is their show, They live unwoo'd and unrespected fade, Die to themselves. Sweet roses do not so; Of their sweet deaths are sweetest odours made: And so of you, beauteous and lovely youth, When that shall fade, my verse distills your truth.
~Shakespeare

Beginning School

Posted in rose petals

As a *homeschooler* I decided that I must do at least when school post, and what better time to do it than when we start?

               ladywriting.jpg picture by Bekbin

I'm going to be very busy with school this year ,due to the fact that it is my first year of Highschool. Also, I'm assisting (and taking) with some of Brielle's sewing classes so that will be fun.

My school curriculum this year is rather varied. For Math I'm doing Saxon Algebra 1/2, it looks mostly like review, but that is always good! I'm also doing a bible school Study, it seems to be quite interesting, but only time will tell. I do like that it includes a large amount of verses and it isn't your typical school type bible study, for instance, it doesn't  start at Genesis and have you memorizing all the prophets. (Not that that is a bad thing, on the contrary, it is just that I have done that sort before ,and it is always nice to have something different.)

This year my friend and I are taking a biology class from a homeschool teacher in our area. We are using Apologia's Exploring Creation with Biology ,and I think I am going to like it very much. For the class we mainly just do the experiments (especially with microscopes and disecting), and the teacher answers questions from the students that we thought of during the week, while we went through the modules.

This will be my last year of actual "grammar" ,next year I'm doing American Literature, so i'm using an assortment. I'm using two books for this subject, one is more writing, and the other is vocabulary. I like grammar , and I've always loved spelling. I was one of those odd little kids who thought it would be fun to be in a spelling bee. =)

and last but not least, History. This year we are studying Rome, The middle ages, and hopefully the Renaissance. My brother and I have always preffered American history, so our goal is to be able to do that in the following years.

I hope you are all having a lovely time (as much as it can be...) preparing for school.

                           Love to hear from you,

                                           Rose

P.S

I don't know if I ever mentioned that I have Chickens, but the oldest ones started laying today. I'm thrilled! I must post about them. =)

Hello Rose,
How have you been? How exciting you started highschool. I'm in my very last year. It seems so long ago I first started...Anyway, looks like you'll be learning a lot this year. I agree with you and your brother: I prefer American history from all the rest.

Nice to hear from you,
Brooke

I'm starting back into school myself. Technically I'm starting highschool, but...well...it's kind of hard to say what grade I'm really in. I'm behind in Math, wayyyyy ahead in History and Reading, and where I need to be in grammer. My cousin, BookFreak, used Apologia's biology text last year. I'm using Apologia's general science. I'm in a Science class that is taught by a man who went to vet school. He's really fun. I'd love to hear from you!

Hi Rose,

My mom got me Consumer Math (S.O.S.), which is math problems in the 'real world'. lol Right now I'm on fractions, which I do not like... I'm not so good with fractions.

I never really studied Greece history, which is something I would like to do. I pretty much got Egypt, Rome, Middle-ages, Renaissance, I got a history of Scotland before... American History. But never Greece, really weird.

Oh yes, the bodice is really good. I just need a few more things for my costume, then I'll put it on and get pictures made. :D

Hi Rose,
Thanks for coming to the tea today...it is nice to meet the moms before the sewing classes start.
So anyway...I need to go see how grandma is doing....I'm hoping to get all the buttons I have sewn on the coat tonight.
I was wondering....do you think I should bother with taking pictures of me with the gibson girl hair for the old fashioned girl post....or just find a random picture some where....(you know how I am with getting my picture taken....:)

So anyway....have a good evening blogging or whatever you are doing.
Love you
Brielle

Rose
Hello! Thank you for stopping by! Lovely hearing from you!
I hate math/alegbra, but I did it today. Yes, I know a big accomplishment! haha!

Oh history is my favourite. I have a book entirely about Queen Elizabeth that I pour over for hours and hours... did you know that Virginia was name after her - she was the "Virgin Queen" so Sir Reliegh name it Viriginia after her! Funny reading that since I am doing the StatesExploration blog!

Ok... sorry to bore you.

Love you,
Jocelyn

Dear Rose,

It sounds like you are going to be busy. :)

I am in Highschool too, so is my sister Rebekah (The Lord's Daughter). She will be graduating this coming June.

Right now we have just started a study on Arizona.

I hope you have a lovely day. :)

Rose,

Ofcourse you may add us to your friends list! I will add you to ours directly.

Thank you for your kind praise of my skirt! The skirt is neither a circle nor a does it have pleats... it is rather difficult to explain. It is made up of several different pieces shaped like bells and then stitched together. Does that make sense? Let me know if I need to explain myself further.

Your civil war dress is SO cute! I hope my dress turns out as cute when I finally make it! :P

Sounds like you've got your work cut out for you. I know I have mine. I hope school's been going well. Alright, enough with the short sentences.

So, when are you going to post about your chickens? I'd love to see pictures of them!

Until later!
