Links in Entries explained

To add
links to your entries...
The "Insert Link" is the first icon in the picture above. It is a globe with two chain links.
(It is easiest to type all of the text first and then make the text linkable.)
Enter your thoughts into the Edit Entry window as normal. After all of the text is in place, open another browser window and find the site that you want linked. Highlight the web address from that window and copy it. Return to your blog entry. Highlight the text that you want linkable. Click on the "Insert Link" icon. A small window will open with "http://" displayed. Leave this text highlighted. Paste the web address into this small window and click on "Ok". Follow these steps for any other text in your entry that you want linked (clickable). When you are finished, save your changes.
Just as a note:
When you link your entry to another site, choose your words based on if you want that site to be found or not. If in your entry you have the words "how to make a book" and you make that linkable to your favorite book making site.... when someone Googles "make a book" your blog might show up with the link! (For an example, Google "how to make lapbooks", am I still there?)
This idea sound good if you want people to find your favorite sites through your blog!
BUT... what if you DON'T want to give credibility to an article or help publicize it. You want your friends to read the article so that they can be aware, but you don't want that site to move up in Goggle searches? In your entry text, say something like, "
Here is a negitive article on homeschooling." and link the word "here" instead of "homeschooling". Then someone will have to google the word "here" to find the site amoung the
10,570,000,000 links to the word "here" instead of the only
12,600,000 links to a word like homeschooling.
If you want more clarification on how to make your links work for you... leave a comment with a question.
If anyone would like to practice with links... Please link back to me! You will move me higher in the Google and Technorati
seach engines. If you want to promote your friends, link to them, just remember to link the words that you want Google and other search engines to index.
If this entry was helpful, please leave a comment. I don't know if I should be taking the time to write up instructions or go and do my yard work. Thanks!
