Last night when I finished blogging I went to make sure the porch light was on for when Todd came home from work. The kids were already out in their tent in the front yard munching on snacks and reading a book out loud. I pulled the curtain back from the window and saw a friendly little critter happily nibbling on some trash we left on our back porch; yes, it was a skunk. Should I tell the kids or not? I decided I better tell them, so I went to the front door and told them about our little visitor on the back porch. They were inside with their pillows in less than 1 minute. They all stood quietly at the back door watching the skunk. He stayed there for at least 20 or 30 minutes. Then Ben said, "Mommy, why did you have to tell us there was a skunk out there? If you hadn't told us we wouldn't have known and we would still be out there in our tents!"

Moral of the story: Never leave trash out. Always take it ALL the way out to the trash cans and put the lid on!
