"Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored." Titus 2:3-5 (NASB)

UPDATE: 3:53pm - IT'S STILL SNOWING!!!! It's very light and we don't have any accumulation but it's still pretty watching it fall from the sky!
How wonderful it was to open up the blinds this morning and see snow!!!! It wasn't much but it was pretty! As I sit here eating my lunch, I look out the window and the snow is still coming down! Oh how I am ready for some serious snow accumulation! My hubby and older daughter got out this morning and took a walk. They said it was so pretty. I love just sitting here looking at the snowflakes fall!
As I look out the window that's next to my desk, I see overcast skies. I haven't watched the weather on the news today to see what kind of weather is forecasted. However, it looks like it just might be a cloudy day. Temperatures were supposed to reach around 50 yesterday but it certainly didn't feel like it got that high. I love the cooler temperatures. I am looking forward to seeing some real snow this winter - not just a dusting here and there - but REALLY SERIOUS snow! I'd love to have a good snow of 6 inches or more! Okay - some people may think that's just crazy - but I'm telling you....this girl loves snow!!!! That is as long as I don't have to get out and drive in it. And that's the blessing of being a stay at home, homeschooling mom! For the most part, I can mold our schedule around things like snow. We can even take a snow break from school so the children can get out and play in it and build snowmen and make snow angels. Oh the memories.......I can remember making snow angels and snow men when I was a child. A couple of years ago where we used to live, there was a pretty good snow. The children got out and built snow forts. We were staying with somebody at that time and she had some kittens. The kittens would sniff around the snow forts and creep over next to them. I think they even went inside. It was so cute! And the children loved it!
I'm ready for the snow!
"Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful. But since we've no place to go.....LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOW!"
*(I'm not for sure who wrote the above song. The source is unknown.)
Today it is overcast, drizzly, and cool. I love this time of year! Fall is my all-time favorite season. I enjoy the smell of pumpkin pie spice candles burning brightly, illuminating our home on those overcast days when it's cool outside. I love the crispness in the air that invigorates me after a season of hot weather. I like pulling out the long sleeve shirts and sweatshirts. I enjoy cuddling up under a nice, warm, comfy blanket with a steaming hot cup of coffee. There's nothing like the fall time! The trees are cloaked with an array of colors. I especially enjoy seeing the bright orange, red, and yellow leaves. If we would just take the time to enjoy our surroundings, we can find so much beauty in God's creation no matter what the season is: the blanket of white snow in the winter, the beautiful array of colors in the flowers of spring, the beautiful green leaves of summer, and the color show in the leaves of fall time. Take time out of your day to notice God's beautiful creation. You just might be amazed at how much you'll notice!
This morning, I opened the blinds to our living room window and saw such a beautiful sight. The sun had not fully risen yet. The sky was painted with an array of colors. Picture a really light blue that blends into a pale yellow. The yellow blends into a light orangish yellow then blends from an orange to a pink back to bluish gray. The bluish gray blends into a final darker bluish gray. Gorgeous! Absolutely gorgeous. The colors are so blended that you can't find the end of one and the beginning of another. Isn't our God amazing? He paints the colors of the sky and gives us such beauty to behold! Let's welcome this day by saying "Lord, this is the day that You have made! I will rejoice and be glad in it!"
Yesterday, our family took a field trip to a historic site in a nearby town. We had a wonderful time and took lots of pictures. My husband took a couple of pictures of some flowers that would be great for a nature study. Can you name that flower?
I also snapped this picture of an ant hill. You could have your children do some research on how ants build their homes.
We continue to adjust to our new changes in homeschooling. I still don't find much time for blogging yet. So I don't get around to visiting blogs like I used to. My posts are few and far between right now it seems. But everything in its time. I hope everyone has a wonderful week!
I know it's been quite awhile since I last posted. We've changed directions with our home school curriculum and approach. So I've spent the last several weeks working many hours putting everything together and getting it ready for the beginning of school. We now have school underway and are adjusting to the changes. I like the changes we've made. It does require more out of all of us. But that's a good thing. We recently had a field trip to an apple orchard in the area. My husband took some fabulous pictures. One I just have to share with you because it looks like it belongs in a field guide or nature book! Look at this awesome picture he took:
Here's a great picture of some of the apples:
They enjoyed the field trip and brought back some wonderful apples as well. We have several field trips planned for the year among which are touring a news channel station, attending an orchestra performance, and potentially seeing a Shakespeare play. It is wonderful living here. We have so many more opportunities to participate in things. We found a great homeschool group and our children get to take regular P.E. classes at our local community center. Our home school is blossoming with so many opportunities and I find it quite refreshing and exciting.
I may not blog as much in upcoming months but I hope to continue to share little snippets from daily life and school. I look forward to sharing things from our nature walks and field trips. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
This morning it is rather overcast outside. I believe rain is in the forecast. We are in need of some rain in our area. So I hope we see at least a little rain.
It has been hot the last couple of days. It was in the ninety's yesterday and I believe it is supposed to be the same today. However, I do believe we will see the eighty's tomorrow.
The day started with a wonderful temperature. It was perfect walking weather! So walk we did - my Mom, myself, and my two daughters. My Mom, myself, and my older daughter try to walk together at least 4 days a week (sometimes more). When it's too hot outside, rainy, etc. we walk at our local community center. But we much prefer to be able to walk outside in the fresh air. We've been blessed to be able to walk outside a couple of times last week and both yesterday and today.
After such a wonderful temperature this morning, it's actually around 90 degrees this afternoon. I haven't been outside since this morning so I don't know if it's humid or not. I can see outside my window that the sky is pretty clear! There's plenty of sunlight coming through our front window. I love that! I know that closing the blinds in the summer time when the sun is shining through the windows helps cut back on cooling costs. But I need to have sunlight coming in! If I kept the blinds closed all the time, it would be dreary and down right depressing for me! So one of the first things I usually do each morning after the sun has come up is open up the living room and kitchen blinds.
The ultimate goal of Christian home education is to train children to impact the world for God. We want our children to not only hear and learn God's Word, but also be doers of God's Word. Therefore, we strive to teach them:
SERVICE - How to serve God and others
ACHIEVEMENT - To do the best they can in all they do from academic subjects to chores to serving others and more
LOVE - To love God and one another
TRUTH - To live their lives based on the absolute Truth of God
The name of this blog is the acronym for these four areas that we strive to teach our children:
S.A.L.T. - Service, Achievement, Love, Truth
