Waiting for the next issue of The Old Schoolhouse magazine
When I first started to consider homeschooling, I bought every magazine I could find on the subject. There aren't many, maybe a half dozen or so, and I had to search for them. Even the bigger bookstores didn't carry them like many do now. When I found The Old Schoolhouse magazine, I read it from cover to cover, and immediately subscribed. This magazine spoke to my heart. There were articles about curriculum and teaching methods, but also about growing closer to our God. The writers were people like me, who were on a journey that was sometimes scary, always challenging. I could not wait to find the magazine in my mailbox! In fact, customer service may know me on a first name basis. Just ask them who calls every couple of months to ask if the new issue has gone out! I think I heard a chuckle the last time I called. They must have recognized my voice. Well, I don't have to make those calls anymore. The Old Schoolhouse has gone digital! No more waiting for the issue to hit your mailbox. It will now hit your inbox as soon as it is published! How cool is that? So check it out at http://www.thehomeschoolmagazine-digital.com/thehomeschoolmagazine/summer07/ Tell them I sent you. I know they miss my calls :) |

Planning your school year just got easier!
I have found a planner that is truly designed just for us! I have checked out several planners, bought a couple, and have never been as excited as I am about The Homeschool Planner! This book has everything you need (and more) to plan your school year. Yes, it's a calendar, with lists of holidays and sources for e-books to teach about them. Each month has a couple of easy recipes to make your life easier. It has timelines and periodic tables, info on just about every subject, articles about homeschooling, and so much more. It even has the U.S. Constitution and The Declaration of Independence, as well as other articles you won't have to search for! I am so tired of having hundreds of different pieces of paper for forms I use in homeschooling. The second half of this planner is every form you need! We are talking a planner with almost 250 pages of info! You'll find annual plans, forms for listing goals for each child, and end-of the-year evaluations. I am getting excited about planning my year again. I have always thought about setting goals (in writing) for my children at the beginning of the year. This year, we are doing it. Who knows, after setting goals and achieving them, I might just frame that end-of-the-year evaluation. You can check out a sample of The Homeschool Planner at the website for The Old Schoolhouse Magazine:http://www.theoldschoolhousestore.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2499 |

So this is blogging!!
Okay, I guess I'm behind the times. I am just learning about blogging! I know, I know, everyone else has been blogging for years now. My church friends all blog, my homeschool friends are always talking about it, even some of my family members are blogging! Well, I just take a little longer! Now, let me clarify something; I have been sharing my thoughts online for ages. I wrote for a couple of online magazines 10 years ago. I shared my thoughts on everything from being a new mom to menopause! No, I'm not there...yet...menopause, I mean. But I am older mom. 48 with an 8...oops, can't say that anymore...9 year old! I have learned that there are many benefits to being an older mom. I am a bit more patient, I think, than I was when I was younger. I love spending time with my kids. I don't know whether I would have homeschooled my kids if I had been a mom at 29 instead of 39. My husband says it's just convenient. When the kids are up in the middle of the night, he usually has to use the bathroom anyway! So this is the beginning of a new phase. Blogging. I think I am going to like it! Hopefully, something I have to say will brighten your day, or at least help you get through it with a grin. |
