About Me

My husband James and I have been married for 23 years, and we live in the beautiful Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. We have 4 daughters, Ashley- 21, Briana-18, Marissa-11, and Daniella-7. This is our 14th year of homeschooling. I enjoy scrapbooking, reading, camping, games with my family, and Bible study. My most favorite place on earth is sitting on a white sandy beach with the "sand between my toes", listening to the waves splash on shore. Our family is also passionate about adoption, Guatemala, and missions.

Two Dates and a Party

Posted in Life Happenings

Can you believe it?  Two dates in less than 3 weeks!!  It's a record.  It had been absolutely forever since James and I had been out alone~well, if you don't count a trip Christmas shopping, or perhaps another trip to WalMart.  I have built-in help willing to babysit for me.  Why is it still so hard for just the 2 of us to get out the door?  We've had these restaurant gift certificates my mom gave us for over 2 years!  In fact, when we finally went, the lady at the register said, "Huh, I've never seen this kind before."  Pathetic.  We stuffed ourselves at the buffet and had a really great evening.  Before we ate, we went to Home Depot and Lowes and picked out a new vanity, sink top, and faucet for our bathroom.  James went back the next day and got them.  (Now if we can just find time to install them!)

So, last week, we turned a "had to" shopping excursion into a date, too.  I wanted to get Daniella an outfit for her Groovy Girls for her birthday.  The only place I knew here that sold them was a shop in Dollywood.  So off James and I go.  We have season passes, so we didn't have to pay to get in or park.  We got the outfit, but we also got dessert at the bakery, held hands and walked around, and rode the ferris wheel and the scrambler.  I even bought myself something, which is rare~a beautiful white and blue teapot from Vietnam.  Dollywood is having their Festival of Nations, and they have shows and products from several different countries.  It was a great afternoon.  Too short, but great.  We had to cut it short, because.....guess where we had to go.  Yep.  WalMart.

Wednesday was Daniella's birthday and my parents came for the day.  We all had a nice day, and she had a fun birthday.  Then Saturday was her very first party with friends.  She had a super time. Three out of the seven invited got to come, plus 2 siblings participated, too, so we had a nice size group.

The Lord gave us our desires that day.  It was an outside party, and most of the week they were calling for a 30% chance of rain.  By Thursday it was 50%; Friday 60%, and when I got up Saturday morning 90%.  I had prayed and prayed all week that it wouldn't rain, and I have to admit, 90% made me lose the faith I had had all week that the Lord would give us sunshine (or at least no rain).  I continued to pray all morning, while I watched the radar ,and I watched God roll the clouds away~quite literally.  The line headed across Tennessee broke in the middle of the state (north to south).  The rain to the south moved directly east, while the rain in line with us and to the north moved northeast.  It did not rain the first drop at my house the entire day!!!  In fact, we got a little bit sunburned!

The kids had a ball.  We have a huge fort/swing set that James built for them last spring, plus they played basketball and rode in the electric Jeep.  At the end of the party we had a pinata.

Resting after the party

Happy Birthday to Miss Daniella! SOO thankful the clouds literally rolled away - I've actually seen that happen during times of prayer, also. It's awesome!

I'm thrilled to read you've been "dating"!! I'm a b-i-g marriage supporter - and the older we get the more important it is - the kids aren't going to be around forever. We've got to build something that will be valuable and meaningful when they're gone. Not to mention that it's JUST-SO-FUN. :-)

Blessings to you ~ Angela

Happy Birthday Daniella!!!

You are so lucky to be able to go on dates. My husband and I every once in awhile sneak out for dinner alone, not nearly often enough.

The Festival of Nations at Dollywood sounds like it would be a neat educational field trip. Happy Birthday to your daughter. I have 4 daughters - 6, 8, 11, 13 and 1 son - 14.

Would you like to participate in the Homeschool Hi-Lights Meme on Monday? All you have to do is write about a high light moment from your past week of homeschooling and add your name to the Mr. Linky thing on my site.

So glad you had time alone with your husband.
These last few weeks have been busy in our home. David and I plan to slip away tomorrow night for some one on one time.
Happy Day!

Happy Birthday to Daniella. It is difficult for parents to get out. It seems, in our case, no one wants to babysit two rambunctious toddlers! I'm so glad that you had the chance to get out together, though. Hope you have more chances to do so.

Happy Birthday! We had a b-day party on Saturday as well and were very worried about the rain. We were spared for the most part.
Blessings,

Boy! That cupcake looks SOOOOO good!

I just wanted to say that I really appreciated your comment on Nancy's blog - about the ministry you are doing w/in your own family is where the Lord has called you for now. I'll add to those Amen's from your Sunday School.

This is our 15th year of homeschooling, we're down to just one who is a Junior this year, and other than being on our Praise & Worship team, just in 2007 did I begin stepping out and do more w/in our church body. One quarter last year I taught a ladies Sunday School and I'm doing it again this quarter. And believe me...it doesn't sound like it, but it's alot...study, preparing, presenting. Also, I'm teaching from a somewhat controversial book ("Lies Women Believe and the Truth that Sets Them Free" by Nancy DeMoss), so there's a little stress there, too. I actaully had a very liberal lady - new to our fellowship - walk out on my class 2 Sundays ago. She DOES NOT believe in large families, no matter we might "think" we hear the Lord say! Quite the Sunday morning!

Oh..how wonderful! Don't you just love it when God does those sweet "little" things just for YOU??? You'll have to keep a journal and show it to the girls in later years (of those little things).
It was good to hear from you. We're busy as usual but want to take a break here soon. The garden is calling!
Blessings,
Lisa

May. 3, 2008 - Thank you for praying!

Letitia,

I'm so glad to hear about your dates (!!) and your daughter's wonderful birthday party!

Thank you, too, so very much for praying for me. What a blessing to have such a support when I needed it. We had a good home group meeting Thursday night and we were lifted up in prayer there as well. God is good and His body of believers is amazing.

Blessings, Julie

Glad you and James had a great time. Those times are few and far between for us too.
And glad Daniella had a great time at her party too. She just has the sweetest look about her and I'm sure she is a sweetie:)

Looks like a fun party! Love the playset, too!

I'm a little confused about the dates, though. Are you saying that people go places *other* than Wal-mart for dates?? Who knew! ;)

Glad you two got out together!
