About Me

My husband James and I have been married for 23 years, and we live in the beautiful Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. We have 4 daughters, Ashley- 22, Briana-19, Marissa-12, and Daniella-8. This is our 15th year of homeschooling. I enjoy scrapbooking, reading, camping, games with my family, and Bible study. My most favorite place on earth is sitting on a white sandy beach with the "sand between my toes", listening to the waves splash on shore. Our family is also passionate about adoption, Guatemala, and missions.

Camelot

Posted in On Stage

On Sept. 10th, Briana opened in Camelot.  Since a large portion of the musical is focused on Arthur, Guenevere, Lancelot, and Pelenore, the rest of the cast doesn't get a lot of stage time, but she's enjoying it anyway.  Camelot will be a 2 month run, and closing on Nov. 8.  So far, I've seen it twice, and will see it again at closing.  (Unless, I manage to sneak in anymore shows between now and then!)

HAIRSPRAY!!

Posted in On Stage

What a fun and fantastic show~ even if Briana wasn't in it!  I'm going back for the 2nd time next Thursday, and I can't wait.

Good Morning Baltimore~
Briana is in the center in the beige trench coat...Don't you love the wig?

Briana was one of the Nicest Kid's in Town and a Counsil Member~which translated to she was in all almost all of the dances and was one of 8 that had the main dance parts.

"Nicest Kids In Town"

Nicest Kids introducing themselves~ "Tammy"

With Corny Collins

"I Can Hear the Bells"
These girls popping up, ringing those bells, and the expressions on their faces is one of my favorite parts.  Briana is 2nd from the left in the back
.

"Miss Baltimore Crabs"

"Run and Tell That"

The Sophomore Hair Hop

"The Madison"

"The Madison" ~ Feed the Monkey (Briana is on the far left.)

"It Takes Two"

"Welcome to the 60's"
Oh, my goodness.  These ladies have the most amazing voices!  And, the one on the left was a semi finalist in season 3 of American Idol
.

"Welcome to the 60's"
Briana is the tall one...different wig this scene.  You can't really tell, but it is black and has a hot pink stripe across it. Those pink cateye glasses crack me up.

Scatter dodgeball scene.  Briana is on the right.

"Big Blonde and Beautiful"

"Big Blonde and Beautiful"  ~ Mother/Daughter dance

"Timeless to Me"

"I Know Where I've Been"

This was an amazing song.  It brought the house down opening night, and I think most performances.

"It's Hairspray"  ~  Briana is on the left between the 2 guys...new dress, new, bigger wig! : )

"Cooties"

"You Can't Stop the Beat" ~ Briana is toward the back in the center.  There were SO many people on stage in this song, we couldn't get a good picture of her.

She's in there somewhere!

Believe me, I really did restrain myself on the pictures!  LOL.

Please pray for Ashley as she prepares to leave for Kenya on July 22nd!

Dancin', Spinnin', Jumpin', and Singin'

Posted in On Stage

Things are not slowing down around here any.  Two days after Daniella's recital, we made another trip to my parents' house and spent 3 nights.  The purpose of the trip was to see Briana in her recital, but we went a couple of days early to visit and so James could go take pictures at dress rehearsal.

The theme of the show was "All We Need is Love", set in the 60's.  Most of the drama was centered around a young man being drafted to the war.  If you see an older couple in any pictures, they are the young couple today.  It continually flashed back and forth between 60's and present day.  Most of the dances except the ballet were done to 60's music.

These pointe dresses were actually green.  Bri is 2nd from the left.~

Ballet~

This picture makes me laugh~

Modern~
Briana is in the center.

Jazz. She's middle of the front row~

Musical Theater~

She called this dress her rug. Singing Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.~

"Let It Be"~

It was a great show.   It was very refreshing.  As you all know, this is the first year Briana has been in this theater and in their dance program.  Did you notice the jazz costumes?  Their bodies are fully covered.  This is the first time Bri has been able to dance jazz since she was about 7 because the studio here had very skimpy (as in bikini outfits...literally) costumes, and did very provocative dances.  We had none of that in this studio, so she was able to participate.  It was so nice to sit through a recital and not have to sit through, or get up and walk out of dances.  They did 4 performances in 3 days.  I only got to go to one of them, because we had to get back home for a fund raising dinner with Ashley.

The recital was on the same stage as all of the professional musicals, so Shenandoah was off for a week for the recital tech and dress rehearsals.  It was back up and going yesterday, though.  She is just over half way through with Shenandoah performances.  Nineteen down, seventeen to go!  We'll be going to see it again (for the 3rd time) in 10 days.  Go, go, go is the theme for us this spring!  : )

SHENANDOAH!

Posted in On Stage

Oh, my goodness.  What a week!  I am home again for a few days.  We left on March 18th, and went to my parents' house where Briana lives.  My sister and 2 nieces were there visiting as well, so we enjoyed Wed. night and Thurs. visiting.  Thursday night was Briana's opening night.  James and I went, and it was WONDERFUL!  I loved it, and can't wait to go back.  (I plan to go at least 2 more times.  Since they gave us 5 free tickets, and the younger girls are not going, I can go twice for free!)

The musical is set in the Shenandoah Valley of VA during the Civil war.  It is about a family trying to stay out of the war.  The first half is fun, and the 2nd half is sad.

Briana had the opening dance solo, so she was the first one out on stage. I was crying before she ever got out there.  : )

Opening number~

Briana is on the right next to the flag bearer~

In church~

Fire scene~  Briana is on the left beating out the fire.

Next to Lovin' I Like Fightin' ~ fun song

Preparing for the wedding banquet.  Briana is on the right holding the tablecloth.~

1st battle scene.  They are being shot at, as they run across the stage, screaming.  : ) Briana is in the center.

Second Battle scene.  Briana is symbolic of the Union.  Standing in the midst of the war.
See the Confederacy (at the bottom) is dying.

These guys all around her (4, I think) are shooting blanks from real guns.  It's very loud!!  She still jumps every time at the first shot.  LOL.

The Union stands and is victorious, though ragged and tired.  Briana is waving the flag in victory.

2nd dance solo~
This man in front of her has the lead role.  He has been in numerous tv shows, and has worked with many famous actors, including Tom Cruise, Carol O'Conner, Andy Griffith, etc.

In this musical, Briana was chosen as what they call "The Dream Child".  They have someone in every musical who is symbolic and "the chosen one"  haha.  That's why as all of the families are being reunited after the war, she is alone in the center, as she watches the father in his grief.

Yes, I am just slightly proud of and for her.  This has been a dream come true for her.  One that she was a little afraid to dream.  This is a great theater, that does some great productions.  In fact, they were the first theater licensed by Disney to do Beauty and the Beast.  I am also thankful to my parents who have given up some things to allow her to live with them this year.

Tomorrow (Sat.) will be the 5th show of Shenandoah, and she has 32 more to go before it closes on June 14th.

Thanks for letting me share my excitement!

The Spelling Bee and The Nutcracker

Posted in On Stage

It's beyond me how James and I, who avoid an audience, ended up with 4 girls who love one!

Last night, we watched Marissa and Daniella in the children's musical The Christmas County Spelling Bee at church.  Since we know they don't get it from us, is it okay to brag?  LOL.  That Marissa has a beautiful voice.  She had 2 solos, which were both good, but the last one left me speechless.  She was also the main speaker of the play and did a *terrific* job.  She had a ton of lines to memorize, plus acting them out with gusto!  : )

Daniella did great, too.  She had a solo, and sang out loud and clear (we have some speech issues), had some lines, and as a contestant in the spelling bee, she remembered the spelling of some hard words for her~ fortress and restore.  She was so cute doing all the little dance moves.  She was also a cheerleader.

Here are pictures of Briana in the Nutcracker last weekend.  It was so good, and I got to go to 3 performances.  I love to watch her dance.

Party Scene.  Love the wig?

Spanish Duet

Waltz of the Flowers

Briana with her ballet master and mistress.  He played Drosselmeyer.

Our Christmas Angel

Posted in On Stage

Daniella had her first ever ballet performance Thanksgiving weekend.  She has been longing to take lessons since she was about 4.  She started finally this year at a Christian ballet/praise dance studio.  I thought she might explode before she got to the stage last week.  Here are a few shots of her performance.

Rocking baby Jesus~

This is beginning my 19th year as a dance mom.  It looks like I could have a long way to go!  They danced at Fantasy of Trees, which is a fund raiser for Children's Hospital.  Beforehand, we looked at some of the trees, and after the dance, we looked a some WOW gingerbread houses and made a craft.

She's really getting into her work~

We're off now to see Briana dance in the Nutcracker.

Worthy Is The Lamb

Posted in On Stage

We have had a really good week so far.  Last night we made a campfire, ate supper outside, then sat around the fire and made up stories and talked about favorite vacation memories.  Today we watched a home video from about 4 years ago.  Marissa and Daniella were so funny, and we all laughed hysterically.

Wednesday through Friday, our church will be having a Solemn Assembly.  This is a time of worship, praise, prayer, and seeking God based on scripture.  These assemblies were called during times of seeking revival and God's returned favor on the Israelites.  We will have the Lord's supper on Friday night at the close.  Fasting was part of these assemblies, and the church has been asked to fast over the next three days.  Our family will do a partial food fast~~the youngest ones will mostly fast from sweets, junk food, and cheese.  The rest of us will have a longer list.  We will also all fast from any tv, videos and computer.  I will check my email every day to make sure there is nothing important, but will not be on the blog or other websites.  (You can still leave me lots of comments!!)  I am really looking forward to the next few nights of the assembly.   I was also proud of Marissa because when I first mentioned that they wanted us to fast, she volunteered things she could fast from without any input or urging from us.

Enjoy the worship of our older girls' praise dance team, "At His Feet".  This was this past Sunday morning.

Please Pray for Tennesse Homeschoolers/Praise Dance

Posted in On Stage

Please keep Tenn homeschoolers in your prayers, along with our state leaders.  There is a "very dangerous" bill being introduced which will threaten our homeschooling freedoms.  This is the information sent out by HSLDA.

"House Bill 2795 would subject non-public school students, including
homeschool students, to additional state testing. It would require
them to take subject matter tests based upon state-approved textbooks.
It would also require them to pass the Tennessee comprehensive
assessment program tests before receiving a high school diploma. These
new testing requirements would also apply to students being taught at
home through extension or satellite programs of church-related
schools.

If House Bill 2795 passes, it will essentially mean the end of
homeschooling in Tennessee. Parents deciding to teach their children
at home would have to conform their curriculum to the material taught
in public school in order for their children to be able to pass the
state tests. The Tennessee Department of Education, not parents, would
determine whether a student taught at home was eligible to receive a
high school diploma. "

The problem with this bill is much bigger than what book we will use.  We believe whole-heartedly that this is an attempt by the enemy to crush our homeschool freedoms.  This is a spiritual battle.  He would like nothing more than to make us slaves of the state.  If this bill were to pass, we would no longer be able to homeschool according to how the Spirit directs each family.  We would no longer be able to teach to individual interests, giftings, and needs.  Satan hates most homeschoolers, because so many of us are training our children to love the Lord with all of their hearts and to follow His ways.  He can't get his hands on them with all of the typical trappings of the school system, so he's desperate to stop us.

James and I have never been politically active beyond voting, and some occasional emails to legislators.  However, God convicted both of us yesterday, that we should be at the sub-committee meeting in Nashville later this week.  Our area homeschool association has asked for homeschooling families to attend.  Pray for our travel safety, for the girls to sit patiently and still during the meeting, and for this bill to be stopped in it's tracks.    For fellow Tenn homeschoolers, please, please, email and call your legislators before Wed.!!  If you need the information, email me, and I will send it to you.  (Just a note to any would-be lurking burgulars  : )  my house will still be full of people housesitting and taking care of ALL OF OUR DOGS!)

While we're in Nashville, we plan to take the girls to the state capitol and other buildings in downtown, as well as the Children's Museum.

This is a praise dance (mostly sign language) from 2 weeks ago. Ashley and Briana are the 2 in the center.  I wish the video wasn't so jerky!  At the end there is a picture of a burning bush up on the screen.

A Praise Dance

Posted in On Stage

I wanted to share this video with you of our church's praise dance team and the song they shared this past Sunday~Here With Us.  My older girls, Ashley and Briana, are on this team.  They are kind of all over the place, so it's hard to point them out, but they are the 2nd and 4th ones from center on the left, and the ones doing a duet at the very end of the song.  The song was rerecorded by one of their friends, who attends our church while she is here working in a local ministry.  She has a beautiful voice.  This video was taken at a run through before the service that day, and no one was manning the camera, so sometimes they are a little far away and once it's uploaded it's a little jerky, but I hope you enjoy the time of worship.

"We need a little more Christmas in Christmas this year."
                                         ~quote from The Christmas Post

This was a 1940's set Broadway style musical.  It was so great, and my family had a ball being in it.  They had 4 performances last week.

Marissa and Daniella as newsies

Briana on the left

Briana as one of the sales associates~back center

Ashley and her friend Dulce (Sweet Ruth) as shoppers

Marissa as the Little Girl lost in the store.  Can you see her in the back looking out the window?

My 2 elegant 1940's girls.  Can you see the 2 hours worth of hair curling?  : )
The coat Ashley (right) is wearing actually belonged to my grandmother.

Well, it's absolutely impossible for me to transfer my excitement about this show and how great they all did; how funny and fun it was.

Remember this week to keep a little more Christmas in Christmas this year!

Blessings and Merry Christmas!
