About Me

My husband James and I have been married for 23 years, and we live in the beautiful Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. We have 4 daughters, Ashley- 22, Briana-19, Marissa-11, and Daniella-7. This is our 15th year of homeschooling. I enjoy scrapbooking, reading, camping, games with my family, and Bible study. My most favorite place on earth is sitting on a white sandy beach with the "sand between my toes", listening to the waves splash on shore. Our family is also passionate about adoption, Guatemala, and missions.

Worthy Is The Lamb

Posted in On Stage

We have had a really good week so far.  Last night we made a campfire, ate supper outside, then sat around the fire and made up stories and talked about favorite vacation memories.  Today we watched a home video from about 4 years ago.  Marissa and Daniella were so funny, and we all laughed hysterically.

Wednesday through Friday, our church will be having a Solemn Assembly.  This is a time of worship, praise, prayer, and seeking God based on scripture.  These assemblies were called during times of seeking revival and God's returned favor on the Israelites.  We will have the Lord's supper on Friday night at the close.  Fasting was part of these assemblies, and the church has been asked to fast over the next three days.  Our family will do a partial food fast~~the youngest ones will mostly fast from sweets, junk food, and cheese.  The rest of us will have a longer list.  We will also all fast from any tv, videos and computer.  I will check my email every day to make sure there is nothing important, but will not be on the blog or other websites.  (You can still leave me lots of comments!!)  I am really looking forward to the next few nights of the assembly.   I was also proud of Marissa because when I first mentioned that they wanted us to fast, she volunteered things she could fast from without any input or urging from us.

Enjoy the worship of our older girls' praise dance team, "At His Feet".  This was this past Sunday morning.

Please Pray for Tennesse Homeschoolers/Praise Dance

Posted in On Stage

Please keep Tenn homeschoolers in your prayers, along with our state leaders.  There is a "very dangerous" bill being introduced which will threaten our homeschooling freedoms.  This is the information sent out by HSLDA.

"House Bill 2795 would subject non-public school students, including
homeschool students, to additional state testing. It would require
them to take subject matter tests based upon state-approved textbooks.
It would also require them to pass the Tennessee comprehensive
assessment program tests before receiving a high school diploma. These
new testing requirements would also apply to students being taught at
home through extension or satellite programs of church-related
schools.

If House Bill 2795 passes, it will essentially mean the end of
homeschooling in Tennessee. Parents deciding to teach their children
at home would have to conform their curriculum to the material taught
in public school in order for their children to be able to pass the
state tests. The Tennessee Department of Education, not parents, would
determine whether a student taught at home was eligible to receive a
high school diploma. "

The problem with this bill is much bigger than what book we will use.  We believe whole-heartedly that this is an attempt by the enemy to crush our homeschool freedoms.  This is a spiritual battle.  He would like nothing more than to make us slaves of the state.  If this bill were to pass, we would no longer be able to homeschool according to how the Spirit directs each family.  We would no longer be able to teach to individual interests, giftings, and needs.  Satan hates most homeschoolers, because so many of us are training our children to love the Lord with all of their hearts and to follow His ways.  He can't get his hands on them with all of the typical trappings of the school system, so he's desperate to stop us.

James and I have never been politically active beyond voting, and some occasional emails to legislators.  However, God convicted both of us yesterday, that we should be at the sub-committee meeting in Nashville later this week.  Our area homeschool association has asked for homeschooling families to attend.  Pray for our travel safety, for the girls to sit patiently and still during the meeting, and for this bill to be stopped in it's tracks.    For fellow Tenn homeschoolers, please, please, email and call your legislators before Wed.!!  If you need the information, email me, and I will send it to you.  (Just a note to any would-be lurking burgulars  : )  my house will still be full of people housesitting and taking care of ALL OF OUR DOGS!)

While we're in Nashville, we plan to take the girls to the state capitol and other buildings in downtown, as well as the Children's Museum.

This is a praise dance (mostly sign language) from 2 weeks ago. Ashley and Briana are the 2 in the center.  I wish the video wasn't so jerky!  At the end there is a picture of a burning bush up on the screen.

A Praise Dance

Posted in On Stage

I wanted to share this video with you of our church's praise dance team and the song they shared this past Sunday~Here With Us.  My older girls, Ashley and Briana, are on this team.  They are kind of all over the place, so it's hard to point them out, but they are the 2nd and 4th ones from center on the left, and the ones doing a duet at the very end of the song.  The song was rerecorded by one of their friends, who attends our church while she is here working in a local ministry.  She has a beautiful voice.  This video was taken at a run through before the service that day, and no one was manning the camera, so sometimes they are a little far away and once it's uploaded it's a little jerky, but I hope you enjoy the time of worship.

The Christmas Post

"We need a little more Christmas in Christmas this year."
                                         ~quote from The Christmas Post

This was a 1940's set Broadway style musical.  It was so great, and my family had a ball being in it.  They had 4 performances last week.

Briana as one of the sales associates~back center

Ashley and her friend Dulce (Sweet Ruth) as shoppers

James, Marissa, and Daniella in the Nativity scene.  Daniella quoted John 3:16, and Marissa quoted Luke 2:11-12.

My 2 elegant 1940's girls.  Can you see the 2 hours worth of hair curling?  : )
The coat Ashley (right) is wearing actually belonged to my grandmother.

Well, it's absolutely impossible for me to transfer my excitement about this show and how great they all did; how funny and fun it was.

Remember this week to keep a little more Christmas in Christmas this year!

Blessings and Merry Christmas!

The Nutcracker Sweet

Posted in On Stage

We had a nice Thanksgiving  with my parents.  They came over on Wednesday evening.  Marissa was disappointed that it rained, because it meant we didn't get to spend the afternoon leaf sledding.  That's a super fun family event.  If it dries out soon, we owe her one.  She had been excited and looking forward to it for 2 weeks--counting down the days.

On Friday and Saturday, Briana performed in the Nutcracker Sweet.  This is her 4th year.  In the past she has always been in the Corp de Ballet, so this year she was ecstatic to be chosen for the Dew Drop Fairy solo on Friday night, as well as the Spanish trio on Saturday night.    She also danced in the party scene with her Dad again.

As you can see, we had a great time.  The rest of us are plugging away.  Ashley finished a term paper this week for her philosophy class.  Her paper was to include the beliefs of another religion (she chose Islam) and to present the gospel to someone of that religion.  Brain power stuff.    Five out of six of us (not me!!) are in a Christmas musical, so they are practicing for it 2 days a week.  While they're at practice I am having some wonderful, long times with the house to myself!

Down By the Creek Bank

Posted in On Stage

That's not where I am (unfortunately), but the name of the musical that Marissa was in last Sunday night at church.  She had a ball.  She has been so unbelieveably excited for months about her first musical .  It was very sweet, and the kids did a great job.  She had a short solo, and she has a really pretty voice, but between the fact that she was getting over a cold and still very stuffy, and they had the microphone up full blast, she didn't really sound like herself.  But it was beautiful all the same.  She loves to sing and wants voice lessons.  It's still to be determined when that might happen.  The "new" of things wears off very quickly for Marissa, so I don't know how long she'd stick with it.   Ballet lessons lasted a year, piano lessons lasted about a month, and tumbling has lasted 3 years, but she's tired of it now.  But, she is very passionate about singing, and she had quite a few adults who worked with the musical tell us what a wonderful voice she has.  So, we will see next fall.  Her next performance is this Saturday at our homeschool talent show.  She will be singing "My Favorite Things".
