Show & Tell

Show and Tell Friday with Canadagirl.

This is my new(old) coffee table!!

P1010650
My hubby bought it a few weeks ago, but we only just picked it up. He bought it without consulting me. And I absolutely LOVE it! He DID tell me about it after he had made the purchase and we DID NEED a coffee table and I've always liked the 'old trunk' idea. So it's not like he just went out and bought it without thinking. He figured I would like it.
Anyhow, I'm not sure how functional it will be for actually holding coffee cups because of the ridges on the top, but I really like the look of it and the look it brings to my new living room. (For those who might not know, we have recently been blessed with a new house and so I'm in an 'interior design' mode; finally able to try some of the ideas I've been collecting in my brain over the last few years.)The inside has been lined with pine so I can store blankets in it.
This is the first time I've been able to decorate MY home the way I WANT it and it really is exciting. I think God gives women a natural desire to want to beautify their 'nest' to make it 'home' for their family.
Here is another view.

A comment my 8yr old son made:"I wonder where this trunk has been?" Hmmmm...so do I.

Hi!
I used to have one like yours when I was a young bride. I enjoyed it for many years. Decorating your own home, in your own style, is very much being a "nesting" mama, My S&T is posted, please come visit.

Oh, what a neat gift your sweet hubby gave ! I LOVE old trunks. I am now going to have to S&T my trunk. [0; It is one that my dad and I salvaged and restored. It is a handmade rosewood trunk.

Idea for the coffee table. You might want to get Plexiglas with rounded edges or get attachments to make rounded corners. Then there won't be problems with the groves. [0=

Love it!

Now that's the kind of coffee table I would like to have in MY living room! It's lovely. Interesting question from your son.

Wow! I just love that trunk. It's so neat that your hubby gotten this, without you knowing. He's a really awesome husband. I agree with your son too, how many miles has that trunk traveled? Which there was some way you could find out.

Love your S&T, have fun working on the new home,
Blessings from our home to yours,
Debbie

Mary and I think alike...at least sometimes! :)

I really like your idea for a coffee table. I was going to share the same idea as Mary how to deal with the grooves on top.

You are so blessed to have a new home and decorate. I pray you enjoy it and have many blessings there.

Blessings to you,
Julianne @ www.familyblueprint.blogspot.com

That is a neat trunk. I have always liked that look. My mother does wicker trunks as her coffee tables. They are great for storing things. She has blankets in one, and photo albums in the other.

I love this

I had one similar many years ago. We used it for a toy Box. Have you considered getting a piece of Plexy glass cut for the Top?

I absolutely love old trunks! I tried to get an old one for my coffee table, but settled for my husbands Army guncase... it's wood and old looking. Love it! Come on by and see my show and tell... http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/socalval/374222/

I love the trunks for coffee tables! I would have one but we don't have enough room for a coffee table!

Your dh did a nice job picking it out!

Blessings!

Unique!

What a unique idea--a trunk for a coffee table. Who cares if it holds the coffee cups or not? A coffee table makes a good foot rest, too, and think what you can store in it!

Yes, just think of where that trunk has been! That might be an interesting topic for an essay assignment, now that I think of it. :-)

Lovely

It reminds me of the old trunk in "Treasure Island". Perhaps it was owned by a sea captain!

I was thinking that if you want to use it for a coffee table and protect the top surface, you could get a piece of glass cut to fit the top and set it on top.

Enjoy it. I'd like to see more pics of your new home and the things you decorate it with as weeks go by on Show and Tell Friday!
