A Rider's Blade, Part 2

Zar’roc

A Sword whose name means ‘Misery’

First owned by Morzan, one of the Forsworn. Elven made so it can never break, blade as red as blood. Morzan used this sword to kill Dragons and Riders, the same sword that killed Saphira, Brom’s Dragon. In one of his drunken rages Morzan threw Zar’roc at his three year old son, Murtagh and left a scar from right shoulder to left hip. Brom eventually killed Morzan in a duel, taking Zar’roc from his cold fingers and hence it came to Carvahall where the new Rider could take it up as his own. Eragon bore Zar’roc and the more he learned about it the more he despised it, actually in one chapter in Eldest he almost threw it overboard in the River. Drawing near the last chapters in Eldest, Murtagh takes Zar’roc from Eragon saying he should have been the one who got his Father’s sword, his Inheritance.

More information of this sword will be posted. Part Three will probably be the last part.

A Rider's Blade, Part One

Zar'roc a sword whose name means "Misery"

Zar'roc was an Elven Made sword with a red blade. More detail of its maker will be in another post about the sword.

Zar'roc was the sword of Morzan, Murtagh's Father, one of the Forsworn, Galbatorix's apprentice so to speak. Brom killed Morzan, so Brom apparently took Zar'roc to Carvahall and then gave it to Eragon. On the battle field, Murtagh took back his Inheritance.

As I said, this post will be updated and made more accurate with details quotes from the book etc. Plese be patient. =D

The Video Game

For Christmas I got a wonderful game that I think anyone who truely loves the books will thouroughly enjoy. That's Eragon, for Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, and Nintendo DS. I have an Xbox so that's what I got. The scenery was beautiful and I felt like I was really there in Alagaesia! I got the game on Christmas Day and I beat it yesterday. I've been playing it non-stop! The best parts of the game are when you get to fly Saphira, and fight alongside Murtagh.

The Wrong Move. . .

I went to go see Eragon on Saturday the 16th. And deep down to those loyal to the book knew that it didn't follow at all. So I am sad to say that if you go to see your favorite book on screen you'll end up watching something that was taken from the pages and twisted to it's own story. Overall the movie was great and even greater- if I hadn't read the books. Saphira was gorgeous as I thought she would be. Here are the things that are wrong, and if you have any questions about the movie/books. Please feel free to ask me!

1. Arya knew who got the egg and that it hatched. Okay in the book this doesn't happen.

2: Galbatorix's soliders were in Carvahall...in the book there weren't even any around.

3: Roran ran away? Okay, wouldn't it have just been easier if he said he was leaving to work at the mill?

4: Urgals. Rendered hornless in the motion picture.

5: Galbatorix. In the movie already? He isn't even discribed in the book!

6: Brom. Brom didn't tell Eragon on the spur of the moment that he was a dragon rider- he told Eragon everything AFTER they met Murtagh  WHILE he was dying.

7: Arya. Okay, this is starting to bug me- Arya was unconscience and actually wouldn't eat/drink for maybe over a week. . .in the movie she's up and talking. !?!?!

8: Angela/Solebum. Angela- probably the actress was to young to play such a mysterious character and WHERE is SOLEBUM??! In the books he tells Eragon and VERY VERY EXTREMELY important bit of information about the Menoa tree in Ellesmera. Who's going to tell him now?

9: *Sigh* The Ra'zac. Okay, even though they exposed their features, in the books they have beaks and beetle like skin. Anyways, Brom didn't kill them. Or appeared to have killed them.

10: Durza Killing Brom. . .NO! The Ra'zac killed Brom by throwing a knife at him, though he did take the bullet/knife for Eragon.

11: Saphira giving Brom a ride while he died. Um, homie don't think so.

12: Eragon shooting Durza in the forehead. No, this was Murtagh's doing. *SIGH*

13: Murtagh's scar on his side: Okay, really, how hard would it have been to be from his right shoulder to his left hip? COME ON PEOPLE!

14: The Twins: No Twins in the movie.

15: The Dwarves: From my seat I didn't see ANY hairy little fellows.

16: The "Smoke" Dragon: Um, what was that about? Eragon and Durza fought under Isidar Mithrim then when Saphira and Arya broke through and broke the valuable stone Eragon pierced him through the heart.

17: Eragon just waltzing into Trojiheim: yea, that's where the Twins came in. (Yes, I Know these have gotten out of order but I'm just skipping and going back k?)

18: Arya leaving fro Ellesmera at the End. Yea, well, how is Eragon going to find it in the movie Eldest??

I've had enough for now. And those are all that could come to my mind at the moment. Sheesh.

The Mourning Sage

"Finally, he dared ask, Who...who are you? One who would help. With a flicker of an unspoken thought, the Shade's influence was brushed aside like an unwanted cobweb. Freed from the oppressive weight, Eragon let his mind expand until he touched a barrier beyond which he could not pass. I have protected you as best I can, but you are so far away I can do no more than sheild your sanity from the pain. Again: Who are you to do this?

There was a low rumble. I am Osthato Chetowa, the Mourning Sage. And Togira Ikonoke. the Cripple Who is Whole. Come to me, Eragon, for I have answers to all you ask. You will not be safe until you find me.

But how can I find you if I don't know where you are? he asked, desparing. Trust Arya and go with her to Ellesmera-I will be there. I have waited many seasons, so do not delay or it may soon be to late..."

You are most like ARYA

You are a swordsman or woman of great renown and are second to no one! At the same time, you are an unsurpassed wielder of magic, vastly intelligent and wise. Any queen or king would be lucky to have you as an asset but you are also independent in nature and follow no leader blindly.

A Fairth is "...an image fixed by magic upon a square of polished slate that is prepared beforehand with layers of pigment..." and the artist must have a fixed image of where or whom he would like to paint his Fairth.

A Song for the Road

A piece of the chapter "A Song for the Road" from Eragon by Christopher Paolini

"O liquid temptress 'neath the azure sky,

Your glided expanse calls me, calls me.

For I would sail ever on,

Were it not for the elven maid,

Who calls me, calls me.

She binds my heart with a lily-white tie,

Never to be broken, save by the sea,

Ever to be torn twixt the trees and the waves."
