This is a new thing that I stumbled upon thanks to Never Alone. It's a lot of fun to read what works for other people....so, I finally decided to share my own.
While at a homeschool conference in the spring, I was turned on to this idea about our chore system. I wrote out everything that I wanted each child to do on a daily basis on an index card. Then, I made a wall chart with 2 pockets per child. The one on top says To Do and the one on bottom says Completed. I color coded the cards according to morning, afternoon and evening and placed them in the to do pocket...when they complete it, it goes into the completed pocket. This really keeps the flow of our day going pretty good. We have our days when they have to be reminded a lot...but overall, it motivates them. We have chosen to have a reward...they earn a quarter each day that they complete all the cards....and they have to pay me a quarter for each day that they don't. If they get 5 days in a row, they get a dollar bonus and we take the weekends off...unless they just want to earn another quarter.
Examples of things I put on the cards:
Make bed, tidy bedroom, brush teeth after breakfast, switch out laundry, help unload dishwasher, clear table after meal, Room patrol (run around putting things up that didn't get put away), help fold clothes, put clothes away, clear off and wipe bathroom counter, etc. Whatever you want to see your kids get done....works great on these cards. You can choose to have awards or no awards...doesn't really matter! Whatever works for you!
